Secret Santa For One Reddit Reader Was Bill Gates

Say what you want about his time at Microsoft or his business practices while there but since he "retired" he has worked harder and better than anybody I can think of for the good of mankind.

I've always loved Microsoft, but always hated Bill Gates (his business practices, his temper, his everything). After he left Microsoft, though, I have a completely different opinion on him. He is a great person that genuinely wants to do good for the human race. A real great person.

Guess Bill Gates is still good at stealing - this time gifts.

If you want to give to charity - great. Feel better about yourself. ...but don't be an a-hole and give something to someone else on their behalf when that person is already spending their time and money on someone else.

Edit: Okay she actually got a gift on top of this. Kudos, then. :-/

You do realize that a present that one can sell for a lot of money qualifies as nice.

This is something you would have NEVER seen Steve Jobs do

So you think the whole point of making money is to give it away? Publicly? Is that a requirement of everyone or just the "rich"? How rich is rich?

Steve Jobs Charity

It has surfaced recently that the founder of Apple Inc. donated $50million of his own money to hospitals in California and funded HIV and AIDS research.

Every year, the award-winning animation studio Pixar, which Mr Jobs helped launch, hosts a screening of a film to raise money for College Track, suggesting that the family have been doing charity work behind the scenes.

Jobs' attitude toward philanthropy stood in sharp contrast to that of other billionaires, most of them only too happy to draw the public's attention to their commitment to philanthropy.

The point is it doesn't matter. I do not want people to tell me what to do with my money. I do not tell people what to do with theirs. If they want to give it away, that's fine. But if they want to use it for other purposes, that's great too.

Personally, I think it's more noble that Jobs was able to do that stuff and maintain his privacy then for people to strut it around (not an attack towards Mr. Gates specifically).

The minority in this thread that say he doesn't do enough or his motives aren't genuine should be thrown in a hole. The guy has changed the world through the company he built, and now his charity. What have you little shit heads done that the world will remember you by? He chose to use his fortune to improve the world and you sit in your chair criticizing. Epic.

Almost couldn't recognize him in that picture. Looks like he lost weight. Still a billionaire that I truly respect.

He should go back and straighten things up at Microsoft

Seriously? She put an ipad on her wishlist for a SS? Along with "makeup, nailpolish, glittery things to buy me", of course.
Hey, I've got a Porsche 911 on my wishlist! Pfft. iPad. Go big or go home!

Word. If people put as much effort into building up others around them as they do trying to criticize them, the world would be a much better place. Love or hate Microsoft, Bill Gates is, in my mind, the epitome of what the wealthy should be. Also, for those who say that he's making so much money and isn't giving enough of it away, the two links below. He's already given away just shy of half of his wealth since 2007 and plans on giving away at least half (I thought I read 95% somewhere recently, but I can't find the link) to charity after he dies.

He even invests millions in private prisons right here in America.

I doubt you'll find anyone who could give a valid argument as to why privatizing prisons (punishing people for profit) is harmful.
