Which COD is most popular still in Multiplayer?

I haven't played in years, and wodnering what I need :D
 
You can have some fun with BLOPS 2 still and Ghosts but people are playing BF4 mostly.
 
Yes, the servers on the original modern warfare (COD 4) are still pretty busy at any given time. Lots of cool server mods now too. I used to frequent the CTU server (very strict rules) and still pop in once in a while.

Pretty much. If the devolution of COD were a movie series like say Batman then its the equivalent of Brett Rattner taking over for Christopher Nolan after COD4 and just pumping the sewage out annually with the number after the title incremented by one and an accompanying happy meal toy campaign.

Was at Target buying Xmas lights a few days ago and was surprised by the amount of Call of Duty branded Lego's and various toys as I passed that section. That tells you something about the target audience these days - little squeaking xbox kids.

Pretty much picture BF4 having the same demographic.
 
Ghosts is alive and well.
And god forbid it is actually FUN. HOLY SHIT.

Maybe instead of sitting on their swamp asses in mommy's basement and bitching about what other people have fun playing the anti-CoD brigade should get out some more.

I bithced about Ghosts because I couldn't play it for the first 2 weeks it was out because it ran like a steaming turd. When I finally got to play it a bit I realized the game was also a steaming turd. It is by far the worst COD game ever made, and that's truly saying something. BF4 (when it works right) is miles, fucking galaxy-like distance better than Ghosts so that is what I spend my fps time on (and always playing CSGO).

If you're going to play a COD game get COD4 or BLOPS2.

To be fair...... those are Mega Bloks, not Lego.

And then again, I buy tons of Legos and I'm 25.
 
I was a huge BF3 player and hated playing on COD multiplayer anything til BF4 came out. Now I catch myself actually enjoying Ghosts and cursing EA/BF4

i support the sentiment here. i always laugh when people say COD is for the lesser, the feeble minded immature 'kids', and then turn to Battlefield and act like it's for highly enlightened adults. it's all pixels on the screen. we're all lumped into the same category of 'nerds' by the rest of the world. no need to get pompous over such a goofy and fun hobby.

I've been lucky enough to have been "OK" in BF4. Latest patch I don't like certain changes but I haven't *knock on wood* had a crash since :confused: :confused: so that's a big plus for me :)

Then again... I am the one who came here and asked about COD to play ;)

I don't like the slowdown in bf4 :( BF3 took enough getting used to coming from COD and the like :) now it seems "life like" pace, and isn't as exciting!

These fights have been going on forever. I personally love the old UT/Quake style of 1v1 duels and 4v4 TDM. Timing all the power ups and weapons on the map, locking them out from the other guy, killing them in the right place to make them spawn in a shitty place, loved it. I hated BF and CS and their stupid guns with spray and other stuff. That shit was for noobs and losers. Vehicles, pfff... the ultimate tool for noobs who can't do shit on their feet!

Play what's fun. There's time for serious simulation, and some times you just wanna fucking toss rockets at someone. Whatever else can be said about COD, it's a blast with a few friends on the same LAN. Make some burgers, get some beer, and don't take it too seriously.

I have never heard anyone say that cod is for the "lesser" or whatever you call it. I have heard people bitch about prepubescent COD gamers on the Xbox/ps3 who yell racist, homophobic remarks in the lobby through their mics. I have never had this problem on the PC on COD nor BF.... CS is a different story on the other hand -- it is a very unforgiving community. If you mean people look down on 'others' who continue to buy the same game every year then that is a different story all together. I have every COD game and I have enjoyed most of them. Cod4 is the pinnacle of the series, followed by COD:UO>Cod2>Black Ops 2>Mw2>mw3>Blackops 1> Word at War>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ghosts. This is MP, I haven't played a COD SP game in the series since COD2.

I guess you haven't read these forums in years. "Sheeple" is often used for CoD players, although maybe Fail got banned from this section of the forum since I haven't seen him post about CoD in a while.
 
Battlefield is so far ahead of CoD now - DICE even came up with a way for people to use voice comms to talk to the rest of their squad in BF4. BF = MilSim now. I just wish they would come up with an upgrade for premium...like double premium or something for $100 instead of $50.
 
MP CoD Ghosts, to me, isn't as fun as BLOPS 1 or 2. And, it took a bit for me to get used to the MP. Now, I'm having fun with it, although it still pales in comparison to Battlefield BC2 and BF3. I still say BF-BC2 is one of the best. :)
 
CoD1 was the pinnacle of the series, things started to go downhill since the very first sequel, cod2 had AWESOME graphics for its time ( soft smoke yessss ) but also very console-ish gameplay for a WW2 fps, i mean health regen and grenade indicators ? REALLY ?

It also didn't have any kind of PB support on launch day, cod4 was just like cod2, except every1 had a gun shooting like a ppsh instead of more skill based bolt action rifles, to top it off, you could also use red dot sights, killstreak rewards and stupid perks like martyrdom last stand etc.
 
There isn't enough cod ghosts players playing hardcore mode.

That's because you die in 2-3 shots already on regular mode.

I think COD devs have added so many game types it has watered down the playing pool.

And it does seem like COD on the PC is either dying or because there are so many releases now chunks of players keep playing the older cod games instead of moving on thus thinning things each year.

I remember the first COD on PC well. I think there was roughly 20,000 people playing that game for a long time. When I left it was down to about 4,000. But COD GHOST when i look now is about 2,500 when I play in comparison,.
 
They could release all the older COD games on PC as F2P like TF2. Unite them all under one roof and treat each year as a map pack that you can purchase if you don't already own that year's maps. Toss in some hats and fluff for people to trade, and the older titles in the franchise will make them money for years to come. COD Decades Pack. Even I would consider buying it as a pack.

I'm sure these number will change through out the day however its a good benchmark for current popularity of a game. Unfortunately BF4 isn't on steam and I can't seem to find current player numbers for it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Multiplayer - Current Players - 9,207
Call of Duty: Ghosts - Multiplayer - Current Players - 9,188
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Multiplayer - Current Players - 7,715

Now some other popular FPS games for PC.

Ghost was by far the worst CoD game I've played. Just in case you're going to claim I'm an anti CoD fan boy here is my steam profile. Use the filter game feature and type Call of Duty.
 
Blck ops and black ops 2 are my favorite cod games, followed by mw2 and mw3.
I own cod4 but never had a chance to play it.

You're right, cod2 is where they took the console turn and it was surprising to happen to quickly. I couldn't get over regen health and being seen on the map when you shoot as a red dot.

The guns from 1 to 2 changed dramatically. The MP44 in 1 used to bounce all over the place and took practice to control it and sounded loud and powerful, to COD2 where it was duller sounding and easier to control with far less recoil. Basically Infinity Ward sold out right aways.

The only other COD I really liked is BLack Ops 2. So now I wait for BLOPS3. I can play GHOST- some - but it's not really exciting. I don't like to game when my system seems to struggle with lower fps and i have a 760 gtx.
 
CoD Ghosts had only 2.3k players on last night with only team deathmatch available. All lobbies were hacked... that sums up CoD today on the PC...
