Dirty PC of the Day

Not with a 10 foot pole. I used to help people clean up their roach infested PC's but that was because I was young and needed work. Now? Fuck that shit.

that looks like what an ice box looks like after a bottle of champagne explodes in it.

It was brought to me to fix because it kept shutting down...
That was one of the worst I have worked on all these years.

I don't understand what kind of environment these nasty computers are in. I have 2 Siberian Huskies, a cat - heat my house using a wood stove (ash/smoke/etc) - don't have AC so in the summer windows are always open and my house is surrounded by trees (lots of pollen). I never have any dust in my computer.

I don't get it.

Tends to be filthy hoarder types in my experience. Used to help this one guy with his PC back in the day and it was always a filth fest. Dirty, filthy, hoarder type people.

God bless the PC techs.

You have to turn your PC on for the fan to pull in the dust :)

The first picture looks like grated cheese :D

Normally these don't bother me, but this one is especially nasty...

I do like the snap off 2x140mm filter on the front of my 330R.

I don't believe a lot of these pics are real...must be pictures of dead PC's...how would a computer even function in that condition?...the fans would be useless thus causing overheating

The tech shop I used to work in once charged a customer for exterminator after their computer they brought in for repair had an roach infestation that spread into the shop. We got really careful after that, roach infested computers have a certain *smell* about them and can be detected when they bring them in.

Strangely few customers paid us to de-roach their machine, which we double service charged them for. When totaled with and parts and reloading windows it was practically the cost of a new computer.

Looked like my friends PC, he made a CNC router, that i helped him build, because it runs, Linux and uselessly don't go over 15% CPU load, it stayed very long stable, but in the end when his PC looked like this, he asked me why it sometimes crashed.

After i came in his workshop i see right away the dust everywhere on the intake, i opened up his PC and found a similar looking dust blockage inside.

We fixed his problem, by installing some DEMCiflex air intake filters, to keep the wood dust out, did not fix his problem 100% but made it manageable.

But we fixed the problem a 100% by going for a fanless case.

The only reason I don't believe this one is real is the area outside the shroud. Personally it looks like packed saw dust.

Please tell me that is spray on foam insulation in the OP's pics. I cannot fathom how dust got that thick and so dense.

It's a Dell Know that heatsink seen it so many times. It where faires and gnomes live.

yowzers, I thought this one was bad (could hear it from the next room, buddy said it kept on shutting off)

but yeah, that takes the cake

I've worked on machines that resided in wood workshops and they all looked similar to this. None of the ones I worked on was this bad though.

I have seen something similar to this when my mom complained of her PC randomly locking up. I asked when the last time she cleaned it out was... She never did over 3 years.

I made it a point on my next visit home to clean out her PC. I showed her how and made her clean some.. Now she actually enjoys it and does it about every other month. Haha

I have seen much worse.
Vet office computer, 386 3/4 of the case was full of crud.
Ran fine.

As long as it's just dust, it's not that bad.

Shit really hits my fan when it's at a smoker and the insides of the computer is infested with some tar filled goo that smells horrible and is impossible to get out.

I worry about shit like this when helping friends out. It's not just dust mites, its a host of other shit I'd rather not talk about that gives me the creeps. Takes 10 minutes if you do it every now and them.

Nah, much worse is a smoker, that dose not wash him self to often, so he sheds skin flakes, that get sucked and also owns a cat.

Got one of those once, after opening closed it strait back again, and gave it back to him, and said, he properly will work again if you clean the case, but please don't ever ever come to me with broken PC again, i still get goosebumps thinking of that one again.
