Over the next 10 years, Cisco plans to increase its Ontario workforce by 1700 employees, increasing company operations in Canada to the tune of $4 Billion dollars.

Adding 1,700 in Canada is probably not going to go over so well back home, though. In August, Cisco said that it would eliminate 4,000 jobs in what it called a “workforce rebalancing.”

If he's looking for employees that look like they came from his Thong Song up north in that frozen wasteland....
He just may spend the whole 4 billion looking!

Sad thing is Ontario lost almost 3300 manufacturing jobs this month, so this deal means jack overall.

I'd be pretty pissed if I was one of the original cisco people told to pound sand, only to find out my job was given away up north.

I hope they direct their anger at the proper parties—namely the government which creates such a hostile environment for business.

Great idea, lets vote for removal of the minimal wage so that businesses can pay as little as they can. All the workers are all on food stamps anyways. OH and while we're at it, lets get rid of corporate taxes as well so they can hire more Americans. Wait a minute, who is going to pay for those food stamp programs????

canada has a higher minimum wage.

Hmm, I guess they see an opportunity in hiring talented ex-RIM/BB and Nortel employees, hopefully not their senior management though. Lower corporate tax rate? That's hard to believe. "Everyone speaks English..." I find that questionable. My bet is they are here for the Pan Am games, once that's done and their electricity bills goes up 40% from what is already the highest in North America it will be time to pull out.
