AMD surprise @Jimmy Fallon tonight 12/13/2013

well its kinda hard not to include bf4 when it come in the box of the gpu. the case for bf4 infront of the 290 was likely just display

I'm fully aware of that, I know I'd certainly freak the fuck out just that little bit more if I was there and they gave me this bundle with the game, but they're probably already bewildering the audience with this stuff, so why make it even harder for them to understand by giving them something they'll have to jump through a bunch of digital distribution hoops to redeem?

Then again I suppose they were fully intent on giving out the real top flight stuff for this advertising-conducive giveaway.

Yeah, I don't get that. Why would they give GPUs away to clueless people who aren't even DIY'ers? That's like me giving a GPU to my Mother, she would have NO IDEA what to do with it.....Seems like a strange way to market the cards...

usually with giveaway's you have the choice to take the item or take the value of it which which usually takes a few weeks to be sent to you.

Wow, I didn't realize you were psychic and could tell if someone can build or upgrade a computer just by seeing them on a video for a couple seconds:rolleyes:

My sister doesnt know where the power button on a computer is.

Yet she sells thousands of dollars of stuff on ebay

takes all kinds.

That was a serious Giveaway, I've been to the Jimmy Fallon show and there are 395 seats there. 395 Times whatever that cost is ridiculous!!!

Probably a drop in the bucket when you consider the audience it hit and the millions of people that saw it, followed by the viral spread of news afterwards (I didn't see the show, and yet here I am writing about it right?)

395 x $3000 = $1.2 mil, not that much when it comes to marketing to that many people

Probably less than $3000, AMD is not paying retail for that stuff and I bet the other vendors involved shared in the cost.

value is at retail however - $6000 since they charged the 10% gift tax at $600

look at all those tax dodgers at christmas. what a bunch of low lifes stealing money from this great gov. of ours we should persue every tax dollar from all gifts given at christmas time.

Where do you get 10% from? I thought it was higher. This link says it went up to 40% in 2013
http://wills.about.com/od/understandingestatetaxes/a/gift-tax-chart.htm
Also I thought the gift had to exceed $14,000

No way that stuff cost $6000, unless you inflate prices.

most of the time, backup tax witholding is based on 10% of whatever the income is.

perhaps they used 20%, its possible, but 10% is the normal backup witholding rule of thumb

the $14,500 exclusion is for individuals, not corporations.

Valuation is based on Market Value, not Basis(cost).

Theoretically, they will file a gift tax return on behalf of the shareholders, who are individuals and pass it through most likely on a K-1 or a 1099.

This is a massive headache, as each indivudual shareholder will need to recieve a K-1 or 1099.
