rather than parting out an old water cooled x58 system based around the evga x58 sli le board, i thought about keeping it and using it for a mining rig. i thought about grabbing an r9 290 to mine with, but then why waste the 3 extra pci-e slots. so mine on one r9 290 or four single slot hd 7750s. also, i understand that video memory clock speed is less important for mining so better the gddr3 7750s rather than the gddr5, right? thanks community.

The 290 is faster than all four put together, but expensive and hard to buy right now. I'd run the four you have, would get you close to 600kh/sec.

i already have a r9 290x exclusively for gaming. i was intending to get either a r9 290 or 4x 7750s for mining. the 290s are $500 now new. i can get hd 7750s for $80-90 a piece. i'm actually surprised that 7750s hash so slowly. since four 7750s can cost me as much as $360 it sounds more cost effective to go with a single 280x for $380 since i see they hash in the ~700 range.
