Oooh, looks like a worthy replacement for my ol'trusty MX 518. A friend gifted me the RAT 5 mouse last year and I hate the ergonomics of it, it feels too wide for my hand. My old MX 510 and 518 mice are the most comfy things ever.

Yeah, I have an MX518 that is probably about 8 years old and still going strong. I had to clean it out a couple of times but otherwise, the thing is still working flawlessly to this day. That said, when it does die, this would probably be the one I would get. Thank OP for the heads up.

I've been running an old G9 for several years. I picked this up to see if I like it and will just return it if I don't. It looks like it has a different form factor than the G9 so we'll see how it plays out.

Thanks for the heads up as well.

In for 1. Will replace my G5 which will be relegated to my secondary machine.

how well does this work in linux? Need a good mouse for steam games...

Page shows it's in stock but when I click to add to my cart, it tells me it's no longer available from the seller? Seller is Amazon, I'll keep trying but bummer if it's already OOS.

Good deal if you can get one!

How does the S version differ from the original G500?

Not sure on this one, but some of the "s" versions have a newer version of the optical sensor and others just have the tilt wheel removed.

well shit I missed it.

how is the mouse for plug and play? I dont like installing additional software.

Cancel this statement. I was thinking of a different mouse - very sorry about that. --> Be warned - the lift off distance for this mouse is huge! Not to mention the mouse is also massive.

I've had the mx518, then the G500, and now the G500s when the G500 wore out. They all are the same size and shape. The G500 and G500s is physically identical except for the pattern on the shell. I've read the G500s has a different sensor than the G500. Seems identical to me but I haven't dug into it further. I love the feel and style of these mice, that's why I keep buying them. The G500 developed a problem with losing select on drag and drop which probably is the issue some have made about the button wearing out. I still have 518s on the other family computers and as spares.

I'm using this mouse right now. I have for a couple years in fact, and I'll never buy another one. Left click is way too sensitive and I accidentally click while resting my hand on the mouse constantly, problem got worse as mouse gets older too. Also accuracy of motion is not to my liking, even with xray pad, plus the ergonomics just aren't good for large hands. I hate this mouse, though not as much as I hated the defective G5. Gotta find something new...

Had my trusty MX518 for almost 10 years. Left button finally started getting flaky. Luckily I found an open box 500s on Newegg for $40. Had $16 in credit so I got it for $24. Looked mint when I got it and it's serving me quite well. Was a bit of a transition going from the 518 to the 500s.

Strange, the G5 has been the best mouse i ever owned, and i still use it all the time. Left click is supposed to be sensitive on the gaming mouse for quick twitch actions. Accuracy of motion is a concern though, will have to test that out when I get it. Most of the time accuracy can be fixed a bit through software and gamepad. I haven't had those issues with the G5, will have to see with the G500s.

Never had an issue with MX518, G5 or G500 except for their wires breaking every 3 years or so (almost like clockwork lol). I blame my son for it and always end up getting a new mouse.

Tried a Razer mouse in between and hated it. This mouse is perfect for my hands.

The wires broke even with the braided cord on the G5? I had issues with mice before sometimes because of that, traveling a lot to lan parties and events, but not since I got the G5. Your son has some skillz, gotta get him a trade occupation and make him some money on that ;).

Got my G500s in. I don't like the left click compared to my G5. The tactile feedback of it isn't as positive and the travel depth is too shallow.

Probably due to Logitech upgrading the microswitch for the LMB.

I read somewhere that the g500s uses a different LMB microswitch in order to resolve the well known 'double-click' issue with the G500. This was in addition to a sensor upgrade which now supports a much higher DPI.

My question is who the hell is going to set it to 8200 dpi? I did for shits and giggles and it's impossible to use at that setting. Seems kind of useless anything over 3000.

G500 still can get the double click issue. I have one sitting here I need to RMA.
