Starbound available for preorder!

It's always the same from what I can tell. I think you're just supposed to build extra safe houses as you delve deeper into each world to serve as a forward base of operations. The fact that you can beam up into your ship from anywhere makes me believe they aren't going to simply let you set up beam waypoints everywhere.

Only if youre above ground. From what I can tell, most of the good shit happens underneath the ground where you can't teleport back to your ship.

Check me out, ya'll. Got a gold toilet up in that shit.

New patch notes out! They tweaked a lot of stuff..

sooooooooo if you ever find any thing avian emblem, stand the fuck back when you throw it

found this on their reddit.

on a side note, the game is like crack. Just bought it on thursday. and had spent 19 hours on it since then :D

Still wondering if I should get this.

I really like terraria but there was just hated the ui so much that it drove me from playing it.

Any way to save your current spot when you log out or do you have to start over from the ship every time?

Didn't like Terraria, don't like Starbound. $15 wasted, should have bought Maia instead. Oh well ...

I liked Terraria but I paid like 5 bucks for it, so I can't see playing 15 for this. Maybe we'll see it on sale for the Steam winter sale.

they are pseudo-random via some massive 64bit shared seed. meaning we are all running the same universe that we can exchange matching coordinates in, though they could probably reroll this at any time.

Terraria to me was okay, but this is by far a lot more fun. The inventory, character paper doll screen and other things are much better.

I'm having a ridiculously fun time with this.

Developers stated they use a 64 bit seeder, so something like 400 quadrillion planets are possible:

I love how you can progress and travel to new worlds for new challenges!

Damnit, I just can't convince myself to pay $15 for this. Maybe when it drops to $10 i'll bite

If you enjoy these type of games, it's easily worth $15 even in beta state.

I think it would be silly not to wait for the Steam Winter sale, though, at this point. I can't imagine it not being on SOME sort of sale (even if it's only like 10% off or something).

my thinking exactly. I'm totally down for $10

buy a 4 pack and sell the other 3 to people, its only 11.50 then

It'll be $10 eventually. There was a lot of buzz surrounding this game so they had good reason to charge $15 for it, financially.

I would be surprised if it hit 10$ before summer or, possibly, fall sale next year. Just off of precedence set by other games.

If you liked Terraria, you will love this, give the developers the 15$ and enjoy it!

game is worth the 15 bucks easy. Some of the most fun I've had on PC in a while.

The game REALLY needs a bookmark list for the planets you visited other than favoriting your home planet. I have a TXT file of (x,y) coordinates of planets I've traveled to at the moment.

(If there is a bookmark list of some kind already in-game, ignore the rantings of a lone wolf lost in space... literally.)

Ya know if we were talking about $25 or more I could understand justifying the price. It is worth the $15 hands down. I think the Steam sales have spoiled us. :D I was an early adopter of MineCraft and paid $10-15 for that. This has tons more content and customization with shorter patch times and better mod support.

well i am taking a break. I got all the way to durasteel armor and had a decent gun when my character file got messed up. now i have silver armor, all my crafting stuff is gone, and im on a lvl 40 world. kinda screwed:mad:

Feel for ya. Tonight's patch would of wiped everything anyways though.

you can join someone else game with your character harvest some wood to fuel your ship and go back to your game i think. i couldnt be wrong on that tho.

So are there going to be more character wipes? I'm kind of hoarder type and if I put 30-300hrs into a game I want my stuff to stay there.

Really need to add those server side tools quick. Getting mad lag on just about every server and you cant really administer anything.
I think its the modded pickaxes everyone is using. I was on a server last night where blocks were floating all over the place, moving maybe a few pixels every second, like when you pick something up it floats to you... but theres no one there. That person left that spot minutes ago...

I was using this server list here: http://starbound.serverlister.com/

I think they said there will be wipes during beta phase, but not after.

I think you are right about that assumption. We have a 10 player server that i'm hosting and have had no issues yet. joined a couple public servers and it was a lag fest. Hard to tell though since you can't see who is online and what not.

There's a LOT of griefing/exploiting going on, causing network and video lag, and causing a ton of server load. I've been able to mitigate it by banning a few folks but unless there's a fix for it, it'll be crippling for public servers

I guarantee it will be on sale by Dec 31st. Quote me.

seems to be some confusion going on in this thread about the game and their state of development. what they have for sale right now is just early access, which for all practical purpose is basically a playable pre-order, with the final release nowhere in sight. there is less than zero chance of seeing a launch or discount this year, and probably not for at least another 6 months till they get out of beta.

you can check out a tentative roadmap here, which of course is going to err on the optimistic side if anything. judging by the progress they claim compared to what we actually got in game, wild ballpark guess is probably 60-70% complete. but there are still major core features that are pretty labor intensive barely beyond alpha stage right now, like the server app, world gen, progression mechanics.

it's sort of like a minecraft/mojang situation where modders are probably going to end up outpacing the devs, though major difference here being it is built to be fully moddable from the ground up, with official api on the way. the mods are already rolling in (light packs, xlarge cargo ships, custom techs, etc), since it started off with an easily accessible lua codebase to work with.

it is pointless to wait on imo, if you had any interest whatsoever in this type of game you might as well just get it now. $15 is a fair price for pixel tier, that comes with a nice soundtrack too. good news is the early access campaign was a massive success, and they have plenty of cash to work with. they're still the 2nd most played on steam right now just under dota, pretty astounding tbh.

Why are you making the (incorrect) assumption that early access/beta games don't go on sale?

There have been multiple Early Access games that received discounts on Steam. Prison Architect, War of the Vikings, Maia, and Particulars to name a few.

To say there is a less than zero percent chance of the game being discounted is rather asinine on your part.
