Man Buys Picture Of An Xbox One On eBay for $730

Serious question. Why do "teenagers" nowadays all look like they're over 30 and shit?

He's 19 and has a 4 year old son. Do we really need to ask how he fell for this scam? This guy is going to be falling for stuff like this for probably the next 20 years, and then again in the last 10 years of his life. This is the type of person who should not be allowed to procreate.

It's extremely common in the UK. Probably more common there than American teen pregnancy.

Indeed!

So he is 19 and buying it for his 4yo? Really, it wasn't for him?

lol, it wasn't even a good copy of the photo.

A fool and his money are soon parted. eBay should not be held responsible for this guy's stupidity.

I remember something similar in an episode of Judge Judy. Was a funny one.

I laughed my ass off when he turned over the photo to read "thanks for your purchase."

Item specifics
Condition:
New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

Seller is a dipshit and should be charged for fraud.

I dunno, scammer trying to scam manages to make someone fall for it. While yeah the word photo was in the title it was "Xbox One Fifa Day One Edition, Photo Brand New UK 2013"

that comma in there makes a big difference as to ambiguity of what was for sale.

Although reading the feedback on the guy it appears he did refund the guys money, maybe he just did it for shits and giggles. Although eBay still gets it's fees from him.

Here is the real issues. Ebay will continue to let this guy and others scam folks. Nothing will be done but the refund. Ebay makes money no matter what happens or what is being sold. They got it so good the hit you with two charges, one for Ebay and then one for Paypal.

Deceptive auction description. Anyone who has bought a newly released item on Ebay expects a photo to confirm product is in hand. Blame the scammer and not the victim.

I would like to be the first one to call for the most communist idea ever to be instituted.

The parental aptitude test.

If you fail twice you get your breeding bits fed to a random carnivore at the zoo.

It said it was a photo, he read that it said that it was a photo, and he bought it anyway. He's an idiot.

Actually that is ambiguous, yeah.

Why put your photo for the world to see.. I'd be embarrassed. A person I used to work with had gorilla crap sent to his house because someone hated him enough to pay $40 to have it sent. His wife was pissed and had interviews with the news station. Again, I would of kept it to myself.

I almost wonder if he did it like all those waitresses and what not that got dirty/racist/derogatory type of messages as "tips", post the photo for all to see, get tons of sympathy shit, turns out later they were scamming the world.

Have ebay account, use another to bid on "item", get upset that you paid a ton of money for a picture, let the world know, hope some kind soul gives you Xbox One out of sympathy.

both the seller and the buyer in this case should be castrated...

lol how do people seriously still get juked by this scam? It was pretty much recognized world wide, even in rural Kenya during the 2005/6 console releases and has been pretty well known long before that.

This is why:

1) You read every single text if you intend to buy from eBay

2) Don't buy from eBay or Craigslist

He admitted that he knew the listing said it was a photo, but he went on to assume it's a real console

He said: "It said 'photo' and I was in two minds, but I looked at the description and the fact it was in the right category made me think it was genuine.

"I looked at the seller's feedback and there was nothing negative. I bought it there and then because I thought it was a good deal.

lol. Its a trap with a huge sign that says "this is a trap" and he walked right into it.

Indeed. Not that I excuse the scammer, but in terms of scam, it's a pretty clearly shoved in his face that it was a "scam."

So, he is indeed, an idiot.

dude reproduced at 15...still falls for oldest trick in the book at 19

our species is doomed

Except for add ons and reserve prices, their listings are free now, and if the transaction is cancelled, the final value fees are credited back to the seller. Paypal refunds all but $0.30 (I think) of the fees they collect when the payment is reversed. So there's not much money to be made by allowing this bullshit to continue.

Two points not really brought up yet that invalidate this auction..

1 - Auction was listed under "Video Games & Consoles>Consoles".. a photo should have been listed under something like "Photographs" or "Photographic Images".. so this auction was improperly listed and proves the seller mislead what the item truly was..

and..

2 - The item pictured in the auction wasn't the item received.. does the photo the kid is holding look like the one pictured in the auction?

The seller couldn't even provide a the photo of the EXACT photo used in the auction.

Jerry Springer closing thought.. if a photo was all the seller was providing.. why didn't he list in the auction that he had 10 to sell? Why go through all that trouble just to scam one person.. why not scam a bunch of people?

Personally I side with the seller seller here.. There is no description of the item... Only the single line of the subject that says photo... I read the auction & assume its a photo & only a photo.. At the very least PayPal should make him ship the photo back at the buyers cost before the seller has to refund. The publicity would be better served to teach people a matter of personal responsibility rather then teaching them that if they do stupid shit then paypal/ebay will have their back's..

Wait, has Ebay always combine the feedback of both seller and buyer. I looked at his history and he had "8 positives" within the past 12 months, however, all the positives was because he was a buyer. The only feedback of him as a seller is negative, and it's for the fake xbox one.

Photo's of an Xbox One are selling for $730 on eBay? Wow! I wouldn't pat that for the actual console.

You idiots the auction title is wrong:

"Xbox One Fifa Day One Edition, Photo Brand New UK 2013"

it doesn't say it's a photo, it says it's a Xbox One Fifa Day One Edition and that Photo is Brand new. The idiot seller worded it wrong and commited fraud.

This is what is sad about most americans is they are just use credit cards and create more debt they will never pay. I am one of only all I know that actually own my home, cars, computers etc with no credit debt. Sadly america is going to be shut down soon by china and russia etc.

Sadly you can't even click the link or read the thread to find out this guy is from the UK and seller is UK.
