Holy moly....$60 million!?!? That is a lot of damn money!

Apple Inc has paid its leading outside law firm approximately $60 million to wage patent litigation against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in a California federal court, according to Apple legal documents filed late on Thursday.

60 million is nothing compared to billions judgements.

i mean... who needs to fund actual R&D. Or... you know not spend that money and instead pass the savings to their customer base.

Both Apple and Samsung need to go to an island to fight each other and never come back.

They don't have armies of lawyers on retainer already? It's like soldiers where you get 'battle pay'

Apple could've made 5,714,285 new owners of iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPad Mini Retina, etc. happy fixing the low memory crashes by equipping their device with an additional $10.50 1GB DRAM.

The devices are perfect, those 5,714,285 are simply holding it wrong.

All the people saying they "won" 20x that much - has money exchanged hands? Last I heard this was an ongoing legal battle in which the judge felt so much shame she reduced the initial penalty by a large margin.

Did Samsung not turn around and start charging Apple 150% more for basically every important part of the iDevice. Then said, "you don't want to pay it? Find someone who can produce at a level and quality you require (which Apple could not)." I'm guessing they made the money back.

So in reality Apple has spent $60MM, which will grow as the legal process continues, to piss off one of the most important cogs in their assembly line. A cog who gave them a giant middle finger and said good luck replacing the retina display - or pay fools. And who ultimately suffers? The sheep that buy every iHardOn their overlords magnificently market to them. Money well spent. If not sarcastic is moronic.

LMAO!!!
So true... iHeard that!

I hope samsung jacks their prices up 200, 300, 400% across the board for the components they produce for apple.

If there was ONE person you got the materials you needed to rake in billions in profit, the logical thing to do would be to NOT piss off that person.

The reality distortion field, combined with the smug superiority complex apple suffers from, means they fucked up in the long run.

Samsung has the fingers in way more cookie jars than crapple could ever hope to.

Viva la Samsung!

Yeah, way to go Apple. The best component maker they have is going to charge them 400% more now to make up the litigation amount. Hoping this slowly kills Apple off.

Apple has how much liquidity? Billions?
Yeah, this would be like me spending $20 on a lawyer, woo.

While this is a lot of money to us, with what Apple actually has, this is hardly newsworthy.
