Stay away from these cards they are garbage, they are loud, unstable and run stupid hot.

Even at Idle they are loud.
Once the heat up the Fan shroud starts warping causing the fans to start rubbing against something and a horrible ticking noise becomes a problem. I had to lay my case on its side while I return these piece of shit.
They also run super hot don't bother with crossfire.

I suspect this is an issue because of the Heat-sink fins run width wise rather then length wise of the card and air circulation from front to back doesn't help.

They are unstable they crash all the time.

Try to flash them and the Gigabyte Flash utility doesn't even recognize these.

Wow, guess that was unpleasant.

The fin orientation makes no sense on that card with hot air blowing directly on your motherboard and staying put unless you have an exhaust fan right over it.

Being voltage locked also blows.

I have been finding that most of the AMD R9 Series chips are crappy overclockers.. like my unlocked 290x can not even do 1100 core and 1350ram

Overclocking is not even in my mind I rather have these WORK at stock settings.

The R9 290 and 290X use an entirely different GPU than the 280. The 280 is just a rebadged 7970.

They are shitty cards and I don't appreciate their bait and switch with review samples having unlocked voltages, but retail cards being locked down.

Open case, litecoin mining, I had to shut it down at 80C. Sorry but their cooler is crap. After many emails back and fourth, I managed to get gigabyte to offer me a full refund. I'm taking them up on that and never buying a gigabyte product ever again.

Send me a pm if you want to deal with the same person handling my refund. These cards are a joke and just further pisses me off after having a doa asus matrix plat that probably wouldn't of had any issues. Not sure what's wrong with these tahiti's but seems a lot of people are running into some kind of issue.

i'm having trouble with mine in litecoin mining.

My HIS cards are becoming my favorite 280x but most of the heat is pushed out the BACK on those which is actually great for mining but I just put fans on the other side

Yeah they get hot with the config I'm using... 750 -760s but with serious heat dump. Rather than invest in waterblocks, I'm moving to the 290s.

What clocks are you seeing on your HIS? I max out these pos gigabytes at 1130 core and 1245 mem. Pretty pathetic

Yeah I am gone go with a 290. I have 4 280s so I can get 3 290.

Miniwing wise I will be close 900kh/s per card 2700 kh/s
vs 4 280 at 670kh/s is a bit of a loss but power cost will go down as well.

My 290 running a 290x bios can run up to 1070MHz core and 1370MHz ram at default voltage, with an Xtreme III cooler.
Upping the voltage 100mV gets me 1155MHz core and 1620MHz ram (not a typo).

It will clock higher at default voltage with the 290 bios but I havent verified as I wont be using it this way.
fyi

Gigabyte on the AMD side has been real shit when it comes to OC'ing. They do generally stay cool and quiet though. I would rather get a card that doesn't lock voltages though.
