The Wii U is done

so where is nex-jin to say that the PS4 is done due to lack of launch titles? The PS4 launched with 26 amd most of them are not exclusives The Wii U launched with 30 titles, again most not exlusives. This is not including all of the Wii/virtual store titles...

how does that foot taste? need some salt and pepper to make it more appealing?

metacritic also rates nintendo's launch titles higher with one going to the PS4....

I've been too busy playing my PS4 lol.

But no, no foot to taste. As someone pointed out already it's day 1 sales pretty much crushed all previous records.

To rub it in your face a bit, the PS4 has outsold the Wii U in 2013 already here in North America and it's not slowing down.

And to be clear, it almost doubled it.

This one's for next-Jin:
Just 1% of surveyed gamers want a Wii U this holiday season.

Regardless of those stats, I'm curious who the interviewed (age group) and what kind of system they had previously. Perhaps they didn't get a launch PS4, hence wanting a PS4 or maybe they already own a Wii U.

Regardless of who wins (ie greatness awaits) or who loses (ie the wii U is done) at the end of the day you buy the system that interests YOU. For me, that's a PC and a Wii U. Why? Because I'm not in to playing COD or Halo. I enjoy Valve games On the PC and Nintendo (and other third party) games on the Wii U.

You know what? When I have guests over everyone is willing to play Wii U because of the type of games it has (guys and girls will play Nintendo Land or Mario). When we go over to other friends who own and Xbox we rarely play because the girls aren't interested in playing as they don't want to play COD.

The Wii u I think will get it sales eventually. As more and more people get to see it they will start buying it.

To add to my post above.

Once the games start coming out it will also sell more. It would be foolish to think a release of a new Mario game or Mario kart wouldn't result in a noticeable spike in sales.

One of my friend's thought he would never get a Wii U. Guess what? They came out with the Zelda bundle and he got it and that's exactly it, people don't buy a Wii U for Battlefield, they buy it for Nintendo titles as Nintendo titles is what sells the system.

Get Dance Central and a Kinect, it's like crack cocaine to girls.

One of our friend's actually does own that combo and when she has parties that is actually what is played (by a select few).

No one else that I know owns it as its not what interests them.

That is fine for folks like you Doom, but you're in a smaller and smaller minority.

Best of luck with the Wii U.

I think we ALL enjoy Nintendo games NOT on A Wii U.

U see what I did there. :D

Apparently SMW3DU only sold 107k copies in Japan making it the lowest Mario debut ever.

Can't wait for the console numbers world wide.

Oh no no no you said Wii u had no launch title, so by your definition both the ps4 and xbone must fail...

So in reality your full of crap...

Uh up until Mario 3D World U the Wii U had no games that were system sellers. And going by Japan numbers even Mario 3D World U still can't manage.

Put things in context, the PS4 launch absolutely crushed the Wii U launch. By March of next year it will likely have drastically outsold the Wii U in total worldwide sales.

Keep up the hard work, and take a look at how many games are in development for both platforms.

The PS4's launch was inflated by the people that continue to buy Sony consoles at launch and try to resell them on eBay, Amazon and Craigslist. It becomes difficult to guess whether that continues as a trend beyond the holiday season. And that 2.3 million list Gamestop keeps going on about is a list that combines the call back lists from just about every store and has a lot of duplicate names, as people have a tendancy to sign up at multiple stores.

Secondly, the Wii Us sales in Japan continues have it as the best selling home console for the 3rd or 4th straight week. The average gamer's interest in home consoles in Japan has been very low for years, for an unspecified reason. Also, their big sales season hasn't even occured yet. Expected sales increases generally occur January or so, if I'm not mistaken, not in November/December.

And third, I'm more than willing to compare exclusives on the PS4 for the next 6 months to Wii U exclusives for the next 6 months. There's a reason your friend Teletran has to put up a thread stating "The PS4 ain't done yet".

These numbers seem to indicate that there is a decline in Japan for these once "popular" game series.

1) Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 337,569 (1,032,853 total)
2) Super Mario 3D Land – 344,698 (1,861,023 total)
3) Super Mario Sunshine – 280,610 (789,989 total)
4) Super Mario Galaxy – 256,341 (1,025,664 total)
5) Super Mario 64* – 162,113 (1,639,914 total)
6) Super Mario 64 DS* – 120,062 (1,231,535 total)
7) Super Mario 3D World – 106,967

With the launch of Super Mario 3D World the Wii U saw a boost in hardware sales, up from 14,000 to 20,000 week-over-week.

Yea keep believing that first paragraph, and the PS4 has yet to hit in Japan and when it does its going to demolish the Wii U.

If you honestly believe that the PS4 is done while praising Nintendo I don't know what to tell you.

And the Wii being the best selling console means nothing when the country is saturated with PS3's and 360 might as well not exist. It's sad it actually took that long, it's not a good statistic to even bring up.

Japan is not saturated with PS3s. They sold less than 9 million in their home country for 7 years on the market. The 3DS has surpassed the PS3's lifetime sales in Japan a year ago. Japan is losing interest in consoles, period. For some reason, they're favoring handhelds.

I just got a Wii U. It has a library that's just easier to get into with guests and the gf. I got about 2 hours in Mario 3D World last night, and it's hilariously fun.

same here , very good game. I just got a wii u as well. Im trying the wonderful 101 demo too.

My gf and I enjoy the new mario game and while I work she's into Pikmen 3. She also plays her DS a lot with the latest pokemon games while I just got the latest Zelda game.

I also just got the PS4 and a new receiver to sort out my mess of hdmi cables...

Why would you want the wii to fail? Competition is good, having multiple systems around for different gaming moods is a plus. The wii also makes a good guest machine for mini get togethers while the ps4 and xbox 1 right now are tech demos. The big mp games on them are dwarfed in quality by my gaming rig and should be played there instead.

Mario 3d world is an excellent addition to the Wii U and I imagine the games will only get better.

Nintendo will never have the 3rd party support the other consoles have but who needs it? Nintendo makes some of the most fun games ever created, hands down.

What Nintendo has to do is ramp up the marketing effort and advertise the hell out of smash and mariokart when they release. Those games will be epic.

Why do you guys care so much about how many games they sell? How does it affect your life?

Because we want them to keep on making good games and not eventually go bankrupt? No matter how good the game is if it doesnt sell enough we wont get another.

Sorry I meant more towards the trolls. People get so caught up in arguing about god damn video games instead of just playing them, it makes no sense to me. Just play the games and quit worrying so much about what the other companies are doing.

People are always complaining about backlogs...spend less time arguing about video games on the internet and I can guarantee you your backlog will decrease.

Oh, sorry. :D

I agree with you.

So anecdotl evidence here, and a bit of bias since I just bought a WiiU.

I bought a WiiU, not a XB1 or PS4. Just upgraded my PC. I haven't bought a Nintendo console since the N64. Now, 3 of my 20+ year friends of mine, all life long gamers just bought WiiU's as well.. yoinks. To top that off, my parents just bought one for their spare/kids/playroom and my brother and his wife as well.

2 months ago, none of these people were talking about it. But when I inquired as to why, the majority response was a combination of a few things.

1. Super Mario 3D World - This was the resounding response, this game is a system seller it seems.
2. Price - Most people purchased a NSMBU/SNLU or WWHD bundle, one today bought the $249 Nintendoland bundle at Target. I was informed that the PS4 and the XB1 at $399 and $499 were just not worth it, given the launch issues and serious lack of software available.
3. XB1 and PS4 just weren't appealing - This was mixed, my PC gamer friends didn't want a XB1 or PS4 because they play core games on gaming rigs, and care so very little about a few or far between console exclusives. A few of them have kids now, which made the WiiU attractive. My folks and my brother basically both said they dont care about core games on the XB1 or PS4. They want a family friendly console where software was centered around a safer experience.
4. Free online - Those that knew of online functionality, mentioned this. Nobody is willing to pay for online in 2014 and beyond it seems. All of my gamer friends laughed at the idea that not only is MS still charging, but now Sony is onboard. Forget the PSN+ or XBL free games features (coming to XBL in 2014) ... most agree its a total marketing scam to get people to pay for something that has been free elsewhere since inception. WiiU offered that freedom, it did factor into play.

Overall, I think the WiiU didn't start well. It garnered little appeal, it was weakish, and software was meh. Now 1 year later, software is starting to really turn things around. And when you compare it to the cost of the competition over time, policies etc.. I think some people are starting to see a clear separation. I dont think the WiiU is in order for some epic turnaround, but it is started to sell more it seems. I see people posting about it online, the Target $249 deal today sold out online in minutes...

Its picking up some steam it seems and it almost feels like the XB1 and PS4 launching with their policies and price are actually helping the WiiU be defined as an attractive value.

It's Black Friday... Of course it's sold out online. In stores it probably won't be however.

Also your friends =/= most everyone else in the world.

The only thing that matters is console sales and games that can move them.

Cue if you like the games it doesn't matter crowd.

Im in the same boat as you, bought a wii u last tuesday.

After reading and watching reviews about the new mario..... i went ahead and picked up a used Wii U from craigs. I miss Mario (and zelda)!

X is looking great and Mario Kart is a must have. SMB3DW is awesome in it's own right. Playing it right now

I'll wait and see on that one. I wouldn't consider the GameCube or Wii Mario Karts as "must have".

Huge Mario Kart fan and I'd have to agree. I have both and always ended up playing the virtual console N64 and SNES Mario Karts.

I'll buy one once FireEmblem X SMT comes out. I want them to see a sales boost that they can tie to the release of that game....You know so they will see that strategy RPG fans exist are are willing to buy entire consoles for just 1 game.

Nintendo doesn't care if they get a sales boost, their investors do though. Why you might ask? Took them a year to release a "real" Mario/Nintendo game. Look also at how they have treated their 3rd party supporters after the SNES era. Square? GTFO! We Nintendo big wigs believe in cartridges, we don't need no Squaresoft or cd's. The rest is history, don't be blinded by the truth of what Nintendo "is". Innovative to a fault, this gen especially on the Wii U. You'll make someone happy on Wall Street before you make Nintendo happy by purchasing the Wii U, but do support the games you love to play, and while your mind is at that philosophy juncture, run that by your boys at Nintendo. ;) I'm sure they're open minded, not.

By they I didn't mean Nintendo but rather the gaming industry in general. Xbox360 doesn't have a single SRPG game like fire emblem or final fantasy tactics....except some bull shit vandal hearts Xbox arcade game.

Its pretty likely that the only SRPG that will grace the PS4 will be something from the Disgaea people and while those are fantastic games they are a bit stale now. Xbox1 will likely get nothing.

I only care about games and give no shits as to which console they are for. Fire Emblem one of my favorite games. SMT one of my favorite games. Put them together and you have a product I will buy regardless of which system its for.

Lets just pretend here that Nintendo consoles sell an extra 300,000 units because of Fire Emblem x SMT maybe the fuck bags at SquareEnix will stop creating bullshit and release a new Final Fantasy Tactics because the genre is strong......I know this is delusional but its all I can do to try and get more Shining Force type games.

Yeah I agree. I bought a Game Gear a long time ago and a game called Crystal Warriors, very simplistic but I had tremendous fun with it. It came out in US before SF. It sucks when good games get put on less exposed systems, and have a harder time creating that fanbase they rightfully deserve. Likewise Popful Mail/Lunar/SFCD for Sega CD. I bought Xenogears/FFT for my PS1 back in the day. I'm down for the your cause. Would love to see a SF/FE on PS4 using it's technological advantages, I'd buy them.

if you play a lot with your friends, you would. Mario Kart is a great party game.

I do play alot with friends and GameCube and Wii versions of Mario Kart Ruined the 4 player battle system.

I think Mario Kart 64 was hands down the best Mario Kart game but what I'd really like is a new F-Zero game. Sucks that it's been 10 years since the last one.
