XBox One Owners' Thread (First Impressions, Thoughts, You Happy?)

Anyone try cloning the existing HDD over to a new one? Articles still up on how the hard drive is replaceable yet no one has actually demonstrated it.

You probably just need a better HDMI cable to go that long. I had a lot of problems with long Monoprice cables doing a ceiling mount projector install and had to get a better cable.
It wasn't a 4K rated cable. Supposedly, the one in the box is 4K rated. I'll try a 4K rated cable next time.

I suspect MS gave media mountain of free tokens or some unlock codes. I've seen the Lotus being used in some pre/review videos, no one mentioned how ridiculous it would be to purchase or early normally. Most reviews totally glossed over the insane time or money commitment required to unlock high end cars. We just ended up with drivel like "Cars can be earned with game credits or via in app purchases".

Yup, I am already very disappointed in F5. The lame amount of tracks has me bored already... I also hate grinding for cars, that is one of the things I hate most about GT5.

Not yet that I've seen but I'm sure one will be available at some point. Cable has more to it than your average USB cable with all the video audio and ir that runs thru the unit.

lol Blu-ray quality audio and video can pass over usb 2.0....

yeah cause turning on the console and having it sign in automatically is too much effort for ms...

Kids, multiple family members using the console, etc... if you had kids old enough to order crap online/in game you would understand NOT automatically signing into anything they have access to.

That is why you make it an option.

Well this is pretty cool!

We all have to remember that we're looking at a console in its infancy. Of course it's going to be crude, some things won't work properly, some won't be there, etc.

I don't see the lack of game lineup problems. It will get better. It took the PS3 a year or two to get into form. I remember mine sitting on the shelf for a long while. Here is the X360 lineup. Not exactly a bunch of world beaters here.

Amped 3
Call of Duty 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup
GUN
Kameo: Elements of Power
Madden NFL 06
NBA 2K6
NBA Live 06
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
NHL 2K6
Perfect Dark Zero
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4
Ridge Racer 6
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Parental controls? Does the Xbox One have shitty Parental Control options?

Good god I remember those experiences. Perfect Dark Zero was fucking terrible , just awful. Peter Jackson's King Kong game was probably the worst I played being so boring and totally soulless as games can possible become.

My favorite from those titles? Project Gotham Racing 3. Man I loved that series , I was so bummed when they got bought out by Failavision (I think it was them at least) as that was a clear sign we were not going to see PGR for much longer and I was right.

The absolute worst part of the console is the install times on games. Takes forever to get in game. This is one area where the PS4 has it beat easily.

Anyone experience the sleep/stand by memory leak issue yet? System locks up/crashes until you pull the plug and let it sit, to do a cold boot.

Agreed. I popped Ryse in, took a shower and did a few things, and it said it was playable after about twenty minutes. It continued installing before I could launch chapter 1 for at least another ten minutes, and didn't seem to fully finish installing until I was well into chapter 2, probably an hour or so after the whole process began.

That's unacceptable and far worse than a PC. An SSD would help, but considering every game has to be fully installed and each install is large, it's not practical. 500GB is also limiting under the circumstances. I'm a bit concerned how all this plays out.

This is going backwards to the old PS3 problem of having to install before play. I really wonder what is different between Sony's implementation and Microsoft's that allows PS4 install times to be under a minute in general to get into game and function.

Sony just built better software. I mean, the specs certainly don't have anything to do with it since they are so similar. The PS4 is actually quite astonishing. 2 pounds lighter, internal power supply, slightly better specs, and still runs cooler at load than the Xbox One however the PS4 tends to be a little louder at times. Impressed with both, but after seeing the tear-downs of both I am disappointed with how lazy Microsoft was with the design of the One. I know they wanted to play it safe considering the mess with the Gen 1. Xbox 360, but there is so much unused space in the Xbox One it just doesn't seem as such a high-end item to me anymore.

Anyway, I think the One is certainly capable of getting to games faster than it is with the installs, but I think maybe the software it's built upon (Win 8) isn't built for this soft of functionality. I feel as though if Microsoft had focused more on gaming than multimedia this would not have happened. The install times are unacceptable. Microsoft got it right with installs with the 360. I hated having to select the install in the PS3 then wait for forever to play.

Just won an Xbox one at the office xmas paert, will be hooking it up tomorrow

Congratz! There are some game demos out in the store now if you want to try out some games w/o buying them.

You won't get shit for a 360. They are now greatly depreciated in value because of the million or so that probably got traded in for an Xbox One. Gamestop I think will give you $20-30 tops for one. Keep it. Put it in the closet or storage of whatever kind and sometime in the future you can bring it back out and enjoy some past times.

yeah I called them. they will give me $40 for it. It is going in the closet

Save your 360 for pass through play of old games in your library or sell/give to a friend/family that can't afford the new shiny but would make great use of the current 360 library of games.

Also, download Xbox One Smart Glass on whatever devices you have capable, great as a remote or adds a lot of fun to Dead Rising 3.

After this weeks update I notice some sound drops in Forza, far away then suddenly up close... this happens when I'm leading a race with a sizeable lead and no walls/tunnels to cause the intense jump. I did not notice it the few times I played over the previous week before the patch.

***

I'm happy with the console so far, some bugs and quirks but Forza and Dead Rising are fun, especially Dead Rising.

How can you make a Forza game without Nurburgring or Sunset Peninsula? I have been playing Forza since the beginning and this is the most disappointing game so far.

I do love snap. Having TV or Netflix snapped while playing a game is awesome. Setting up the Uverse box with a reciever was very easy and using voice commands for the tv works well for me.

Need more games.

Just had the disc drive failure. The homebrew fix didnt work either =/ New one on the way, at least they gave me a free digital game. Now, get fixing that kinect nonsense. Its still buggy as hell (although i expect some bugginess at launch)

Did your drive come broken or noisy from the start?

Nope. Developed after a week or so, quite suddenly. A grinding noise like it cannot place the disc properly. Only game I've played regularly has been dead rising 3. Haven't even put a bluray movie in yet. Customer support was very prompt though. Told them the symptoms & was immediately asked to send it in for a replacement with cross shipping. I opted for a new one with a hold on my credit card instead of a repair/refurb along with the free game.

I have had an unopened Day One Edition of the Xbox One and a copy of the Day One edtion of Dead Rising 3 sitting in my basement since launch day. I already have a PS4 that I immediately started playing the moment I got it, so I was debating on whether to even keep the Xbox One or return it (I have until January 15th to return it due to the extended holiday return policy). My friend gave me an abundant amount of time to play with his Xbox One the first weekend it came out and I have to say that I really liked it...since then I've been itching to play it and I'm about to break.

At this point I have to say that I sort of regret getting a PS4 at this time. While I absolutely love the console itself; all the launch day exclusives for the PS4 sucked, in my opinion, except for Resogun (which I beat in a couple hours). I also have the ability to play all the other multiplatforms on the PS4 already on my PC. The only game I play on it anymore if Assassin's Creed 4 since I prefer playing Battlefield 4 on my PC and I hated Killzone's Multiplayer. I should have waited until at least Infamous Second Son and Destiny came out before jumping on the PS4.

However, the Xbox One launch exclusives are, in short, very entertaining. I played Dead Rising 3 for nearly 4 hours non-stop since it's so addicting (I normally only play video games for 1-2 hours at a time); this game alone is making me itch to open my Xbox One. I had a blast playing Killer Instinct with my friend, Ryse was actually decent, and Forza 5 was great even though I probably wouldn't pick it up since I'm not a huge fan of racing sims. I find the TV and snap functionality very intriguing, although the Kinect is still buggy for me (I have to repeat myself numerous times, as did my friend).

At this point I want to open up that beast and finish Dead Rising 3 and not look back. But I can't help but feel I will get buyer's remorse since the only other announced exclusives for the Xbox One I'm semi-looking forward to is Halo 5 and Quantum Break...the rest of the titles I'm not interested in or can play on my PC/PS4. I've been jumping back and forth between keeping the Xbox One or spending that $600 I'd get from returning the console and game on a new CPU/Mobo and computer case (with probably some extra money to spare).

Wow, could that site/article be any more anti microsoft?

Yea I think this part sums them up:

FGCNN has not been able to research the validity of any of these "DRM" claims, as FGCNN staff skipped over purchasing an XBox One to instead purchase a low-end $400 Gateway computer, as performance was better.

Doesn't lend me to trust them.

Parental controls allow you to specify who can make purchases. If someone designated as a child user attempts to make a purchase, it will prompt for an adult to sign in.

Get over it... if you do not like the current build of the controls, wait until they modify it to your preference, if they don't, no need to whine here in a thread about something that minor to most.

System works great for me and I've found enough controls for launch. Back to playing Forza tonight.

I've had my xbone for about a week, overall I've been happy with it although there have been several moments that left me scratching/shaking my head.

The good:
Dead Rising 3! This game is a lot of fun. I've spent most of my time playing DR3. It took me a while to get used to how quickly equipment breaks in the game; you can't just hack your way through crowds of zombies indefinitely, unless you're in a vehicle :) Now I just need to convince a friend to pony up so I can play coop...

Watching TV. This feature required no more than a couple of minutes to set up, and works really well. The pass-through picture quality is flawless (Comcast HD), and I've had no problems with the xbox controlling my cable box. All controls are done through HDMI (no IR-blaster needed). Voice controls for pausing, opening the guide, and changing channels also works remarkably well.

Netflix and Amazon video also work very well. My only complaint here is that Netflix doesn't have as many titles available for browsing as there are on a computer. You can still search for the whole library, but if you're wanting to scroll through and find something to watch your choices are more limited.

I've also been playing some Lego Marvel Super Heroes with my wife. Fun coop game, especially for my non-gamer wife, although I don't think I'd play on my own.

The Bad:
Playing media. Microsoft really dropped the ball here. Currently, you can't browse network shares on the xbox and open video files. In order to play a network-shared video on the xbox, I have to go to my Windows 8.1 computer, right-click the desired file, and click "Play On" > "Xbox One." I.e. You have to push the specific file to the xbox. Supposedly there are third party apps in the works, but right now the functionality is weak sauce. There are also certain media files that don't work. For example, x264 encoded .mkv files don't seem to work, although x264 .avi or .mp4 files work fine.

Game trailers... wtf? For some reason, if I try to watch a game trailer from the screen where you purchase games, the trailer buffers incessantly. I have a 50 mbit internet connection, and I can open the Youtube app and launch the same trailer without issue and without buffering. not really sure what's going on here:(

One really minor gripe I have is that there is no ESPN fantasy football support. You can snap the NFL app to the side while watching football and see scores or fantasy football information, but it appears to only work if your league is through nfl.com. Hopefully by next season there will be broader support:p

The Ugly:
I know this is a launch console but I've encountered 2 pretty serious bugs that I I think may kill the experience for a lot of people. When I first plugged in the console, I was unable to download the required update. My internet connection was fine, but neither hard-wired or wireless allowed me to update. I followed the support prompts to download the update to a USB drive from my computer and update manually, although by the time the download was finished the automatic update mysteriously worked.

The other bug Ive found is with the "Fitness" app. It doesn't work. At all. When I launch it, I get a black screen for about a minute then a health/safety warning that sits on the screen indefinitely. I can go back to the xbox home screen, but the Fitness app never launches. I've followed suggestions from a couple of support threads I found on the xbox forums, but so far I have still yet to successfully launch the program.

Did you mean to quote someone else? I was just explaining how they work. I personally love how its setup.

fifa 2014 manager mode keeps taking me back to my home screen after a game ends.:mad:
