Microsoft Surface RT 32GB $180

I too wish I had a Microcenter near by. I'd probably jump on one of these at that price. Then fight like hell to install a full version of W8.1 on it lol.

I think at this price its worth considering if you just stepped into the market of buying a tablet, and if it remains this price Microsoft would have a guaranteed hit.

UPDATE: Most pre-order locations are OOS

Easily the coolest Tablet to have if you're into modding. There are x86 emulators out there that people have made for the RT and xda has a lot of ports. Honestly if i knew they are able to get sql server running (they do have clients) id trade my w3 in for one right now. Cant beat the surface hardware design.

Fwiw frys will have the rt+ touch cover for 229 on BF.

I agree, definitely worth considering. BTW, I just got my confirmation for one from the Dallas store.

will also be 199 at bestbuy on BF (or now if you are a elite/elite plus member).

no cover though.

Same price via Microsoftstore on black Friday no cover either, Ebay will have the Microsoft Surface RT for 169.99 on Nov 28th but no idea if it comes with cover or if they're refurbished. I purchased one during ebay fire sale a month or so ago for 199.99 with touch cover, planning to get a second one for my dad :D

LOL. $200 for a new 32gb Surface, or $300 for an old 16gb iPad 2.

LOL what? It's not even a comparison between the 2 (And I don't mean the ipad 2, in case you couldn't figure that one out). Maybe if you compare to the ipad 3 or 4, but then you are at 3-4x the price for similar hardware with a better screen....

I'm sure it's just the tablet itself and not with a touch pad which makes Frys still the best deal if MC is OOS. Microsoft store will match other compeditors pricing though at least the one at Parks Mall in Arlington, TX. Was talking with the manager 2 weekends ago. Then low and behold their pricing matches best buy and Staples the night after our conversation. HMMMM

Good deal, I'll try one of the option, need one for Mom.

Love my Surface Pro... waiting on upgrade, maybe next year.

For those of you that enjoy OneNote, check out MSofts big update to the app today, makes the Surface Pro very strong with the app scanning/OCR.

That feature has been in the desktop version of OneNote for the last couple of versions. The desktop version is SO much better and its one of the finest examples of a desktop app that works well with touch. There's really no need for the modern version at this time. It well be interesting what the full modern version of Office looks like when it comes out next year. I'm hoping that it is compelling, they have been working on it for quite some time now.

As for this price on the Surface RT, a very good price on this. Unless one needs the the larger tablet app ecosystem of iOS or Android, the quality of this hardware beats anything at this price. The performance of the device isn't that great, wouldn't be a great tablet for gaming but for web browsing, media playback, eBooks, it could be a perfect device for a lot of folks. Personally I'm not really feeling Windows RT, I just like having the full capability of the desktop, though for average tablet users that may be more of drawback than an asset.

I didn't know this about the early access. Thanks for this. Heck, I didn't know I was an Elite member. I ordered the Surface tablet. Wish it had the keyboard though. I don't know; it seems like a good price but I don't know if I'll keep it.

There're no Black Friday issues with this deal. You could've ordered it and then picked it up as late as Monday, December 2nd.

When I posted that it was not longer possible to order online, meaning I would have to go to the store on Black Friday to have a chance at getting one.

But is it worth it at that price?

Nope, I had one and got rid of it. No apps and crashes constantly. I never could get Evernote to run without crashing in 30 seconds.
Maybe the Pro version is better with support of x86 applications, but the RT does not support desktop applications like chrome. It's funny because there was a hack that allowed x86 applications to run on the RT, but MS fixed the hole that made it possible- I just don't understand why they didn't embrace it. I heard they wanted to update the OS to omit the desktop completely (run off metro alone).
Before you buy one, try one.

That was my point. Who in their right mind would spend $100 more for an older slower tablet? And yea, even with the new gen iPad Air, you're WAY out of the ballpark.
This is a great deal.

man, for this price I hope there is a pent testing disto in the works for this device.

Hrmmm.... $230 for a Dell Venue Pro 8. Is $50 worth getting it now, as opposed to fighting the crowds etc?

Yea... I think so.

Biggest problem is MS announced they were going to axe RT. So I would go with the Venue Pro

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/385609/windows-rt-faces-the-axe-microsoft-exec-suggests

That's hardly an announcement that MS is axing RT. A few statements by an exec (who no longer is in charge of Windows) stating that 3 versions of Windows is too many followed by a statement by the journalist that "unless the company is hatching dramatic plans to axe Windows or Windows Phone, it seems the little loved ARM version of Windows is the one being prepared for the guillotine."

They also have 4years of support slated for the surface rt. So it's good for another 3 years still.

Is it worth it? YES.

Even more YES with the 8.1 update.

People meh at the Tegra 3, but I think it's a pretty good chip.

Yeah, just click bait. I think everyone is expecting that Windows Phone and RT to merge into a single platform that will stand on its own without the desktop and that Windows x86 with continue to be a hybrid supporting both the desktop and the modern.

I love my Surface RT for the 199 I paid with the touch cover it was a no brainer, works great for web surfing, hbo go, espn, nfl Thursday night football email, etc. Add Office 2013 and BAM good times. Of course if you're an app whore (and trust I'm one of them on my Samsung Note) then stick to an iPad, Google Nexus. ;)

...Sorry for a little off topic but I hate the update, it just made the application have less real estate for writing things! now its taking up 35% of the screen at ALL times, horrible update!

this deal is amazing... the keyboard alone costs a ton..
