Get it. It's a great drive. You don't need to pay the Pro premium. I just swapped the pro for an EVO in my laptop and it feels exactly the same.

I love my 830 and wouldn't hesitate to buy another Samsung SSD in the future.

Go the EVO. The Pro is slightly better, but hardly worth the extra beer tokens.

Go for the EVO but black friday is coming soon, I'd wager there might be a deal on it.

Use google shopping search to find it the cheapest anywhere online then price match it at ncix.com.

I bought on Newegg and put it on the 6 month billmelater plan, plus it has iron egg guarentee so if the price drops on black friday I will get the cost difference back.

If you do your research you will know Samsung is missing a few protections that other SSDs do have. Probably you would want to consider the M500 from Crucial as well. It is both cheaper than Samsungs offerings and offers more protections. It only offers lower sequential write speeds, but in many cases that's not very important on small SSDs acting as the system drive where the Operating System is installed.

samsung SSD's are fantastic. have three of the things. 256GB 830 (OS drive) , 512GB 830 (steam drive) and a 500GB 840EVO (for recording RAW video game footage on a secondary gaming rig). was a bit iffy on the 840 non-PRO's but i imagine the PRO 840's are great.

i was originally sold on my 1st 830 when i visited a website that was doing 24/7 up-time tests (constant read/writes/erases) on a whole bunch of SSD's drives, the 830 blew pass every single drive in the test. completely surpassing samsung's estimate on the NAND's life span (3 or 5k?).

forgotten the name of the site that was doing the tests. i'm sure another member knows the site i'm referring to.

If you can afford the Pro get the Pro if not EVOs are fine 2. I have 3 EVOs and 2 Pros. They're both great.
