Will X58 cause Crossfire 290/290x Bottleneck?

Hello all.
I have a Asus P6T Deluxe V1 with I7 930 @ 4.2ghz.
24gb Ram, 1200watt PSU, 5450x1050 Res

I would like to pick up a pair of 290x or 290 for crossfire to use with BF4 eyefinity.
It runs good now with my Xfire 6970's but i feel its time to upgrade (ie. i want more eyecandy)

My motherboard will run both PCIe 2.0 slots at 16x. I am concerned this will not be enough bandwidth for these cards in crossfire due to the elimination of the crossfire bridge in this generation.

Does anyone here have crossfire 290's or 290x's on an X58 system? how has it performed? I have searched but cant find any info on this situation, and im sure alot of people are wondering the same thing due to the amount of X58 users still.

I was hoping to put off upgrading my mainboard until x99/skylake.

any advice is appreciated!

if you're going to play at very high res it won't cause cpu bottleneck

I have had my 290 crossfire on two different system, one 990FX with 2.0 x16 on each slot, the CPU help the cards back significantly at 1080p. I now have them on an X79 setup with 2.0 x16 slots and they perform great.

thanks, this helps alot... what X79 board doesnt have PCIe 3.0? i thought they were all 3.0

It does have it but I've forced it on 2.0 for now. I'm planning to test and see if I can tell any difference with the new over-bus crossfire. Just haven't had time this week. The cards at 1050/1300 beat my 780 SLI at 1241/1700 by a decent bit in benches.

It shouldn't bottleneck it but here is my firestrike score i7-930 @ 3450Mhz vs 3570K @4500Mhz both with a 290 @stock

I guess the graphics score would show a bottleneck if the x58 couldn't hang..

Mine is 10240

His is 10209

x58 is just as fast clock for clock.

Yeah, if you want to see a CPU bottleneck check this out, my 290's on my FX 8350 at 4600 compared to my 3930k HT off at 4500. Look at the difference in GPU score at the same clocks, test 1 kills it as it is CPU heavy.

Hell yes!

I have an X58 gigabyte -- the one that suffers from the boot loop bug.

Luckily I don't fully power down that often, when I do encounter it, I just walk away for about 5 minutes and it sorts itself out after about 5 power cycles. I can always tell when it works because it will finally use the BIOS that has the POST screen and not the default bios image boot sequence.

I just don't feel like spending 100+ on a new board when I don't have a need for it.
