Stating a newish Build go 6 Core or stay Quad core?

I'm starting a new build. What I have so far that I'm keeping is 2x7950's@1100 on water,blu-ray drive, SSD drive, and new 900D case and everything will be water cooled. So I have around 700+ or so to spend on a new motherboard and cpu. Been debating picking up a 3930K or 4930k for my new build. I know the new games are going to be taking advantage of more threads. What ever I pick it's going to be Over clocked as high as it will go :D Going to be used for gaming, I play everything from BF4, diablo 3, WOW, Need for speed, you name it.. Also rip blu-rays to my server, and Folding from home when i'm not gaming..
 
Meh. You really do not need a SB-E or IB-E CPU.

Why not get a 4770K and a nice Motherboard and save the rest of your money?
 
What's your current CPU/motherboard? If you're at 2500K, I honestly see no reason to upgrade still.
 
I'm on a mini itx board and it over clocks for crap, well all I can get out of it is 4.5ghz and I have it on a 9x140mm rad lol So cooling isn't an issue. My old 2500k was stable at 5.2 ghz. Yes I miss that build :( but it paid for my new projector and theater setup.. I have a family member that's buying my 2500k and MB and having me install it.. Also have a 50 dollar gift card to newegg.. So between the 2 only be around 40-50 bucks for me to go to a 4770k setup. Or go big and go with a 3930K or 4930k. I really just have the build a new rig bug since I bought this 900d case lol
 
900D case?

Then go for the Core i7 3930K then. If you're willing to spend $340 on a non-server case, then the extra costs for the Core i7 3930K shouldn't be an issue.
 
Doesn't matter, go for the 3930K or 4930K anyway. :)
 
Never a day goes by, that I'm not thankful i got a 6 core Intel cpu.

Seconded. I even bought my i7 3930K two weeks before I knew IVB-E was launching. No regrets. Incredibly fast and solid. Great overclocker. Easier to cool compared to IVB chips. You're not going to lose any performance having more cores and they'll only benefit you more in the future now that multi-core x86 consoles are going mainstream I think it would be ignorant to not expect some changes coming in the multi-threaded landscape for all developers.
 
Sounds like I'm getting a 3930k or 4930k.. One more question is it worth getting the super high end mother boards or just sitck with the ones in the 200-300 range? Thanks
 
I'd say go for the one that has the features you need/want. They overprice the hell out of the Enthusiast CPU MOBO's, but they get away with it for "supposedly" using the best parts possible.

You wont be missing anything saving 50% by picking up a $200 board instead of a $400 one. Just marketing and bragging rights.
 
Is there even that much of a difference between the 100-120ish range and 200 range? Only thing I really notice lacking is dual PCI-E?

There's also additional features like eSATA, better overclock capabilities, more refined UEFI interfaces, and the extra PCI-E slots you've mentioned.
