Best Buy: Minimum $100 trade in for Xbox 360 and PS3

wonder if i'll get anything for my xbox hd dvd drive

Unlikely, as they aren't even able to take Kinect bars or extra controllers. However it is worth a shot!

ha, ignoring this current promotion of $100 minimum, it estimates my original fat PS3 40GB as $10 trade in value. is the PS4 backwards compatible? i might consider trading in with this $100 promo. but i still need to play The Last of Us so if it's not backwards compatible then i'll have to hold onto the PS3 for a while longer.

Correct. I kept my PS3 w/BC mainly due to my large PS1/PS2 library, but I have some PS3 games I hung on to as well.

I am thinking about it because the current gens will only fall in value. The offer gives you a gift card correct? I am on the fence though - either the Xbox One or PS4. I doubt I will buy both this round.

Do they take your personal info like gamestop?

They take First/Last, Drivers license number, DOB, Date of expiration on license, Address. BestBuy is required by law in my state to take that information . They use it in case of fraud at the store level. What corporate does with it (if anything) is not something they share with lowly employees.

Wow I can get 10$ for my PS3.. What a DEAL !

You're doing it wrong. You're going through their standard trade-in program. You have to go through the big blue box on top of the page. If your PS3 works they will give you a $100 gift card.

how many of you actually had the console inspected? I want to take it in but my disk tray wont open.

What's the best way to wipe my Xbox 360 hard drive? I heard even after a format, it is possible to retrieve personal data from the drive.

Well, I think this applies in a sense that even PC hard drive data can be pulled after a format. Unless the guy is an expert data analyst person, you probably have nothing to worry about. Someone correct me if i'm wrong though.

That being said, you do it from within the Xbox GUI:
To format a storage device

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

Select Storage or Memory.

Select the storage device that you want to format, and then press Y on your controller.

Select Format. You will see the following message:
This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?

Select Yes to format the storage device.

If you are asked to enter your console serial number, do so, and then select Done. This step helps to guard against accidental formatting.

Just got back from my BB store. Traded in my xbox 360 4gb (barely used it). She just plugged it in and powered it on. Didn't plug it into tv or ejected the dvd tray. She asked for my driver's license and then gave me my $100 gift card. :) *I included the controller, power brick, and av cable.

hmm interesting. I have 3 extra controllers and the Xbox 250gb Slim. I wonder how much they would give me.

Some have been saying that they are only taking one controller and aren't buying any of the extra peripherals you may have.

Still, when I go to BB today i'm going to bring everything, including all my games. I'm hoping to walk out with $150+.

So I took a chance and went to best buy with my fat elite with a busted disk tray

They plugged it in to the TV and turned it on, but forgot to eject the disk tray!!! :D got my $100 gift card. On the receipt it says it would have been only worth $30 :p

Brought my LT modded 256MB xbox 360 with brick and controller (no AV cables) and walked out with 100.

Took my Xbox 360 that I still had from original launch and walked out with $100. Reciept said it was worth $10. Now if they would buy my Xbox from 2001 I would be set.

Interesting. I have a bricked 360 in my parents garage. Red Ring of Death. I also have one I barely will play, but I do regret selling every system I've owned thus far, and not to mention being able to play old xbox games too... I may try and return the broken one and see what happens.

My bad, dude meant the broken one.

They will definitely catch a RROD at BB. Even if they don't test it with a game, they will plug it in and see if it powers on.

How much did they give you for the elite? Also how many games did you have?

$100 for the elite, I'd imagine, since the normal trade in value is significantly lower than $100.

Link dead or the site is overloaded.

Read the first few posts, the link is broken due to the forum's re-director breaking it. Just go to bestbuy.com and it'll be on the main page.

They gave me $100 for the elite. I want to say it was $30, but they added $70 because of the promotional deal. It could have been the other way around where they offered me $70 and added an additional $30. Either way it was $100.

I probably had 20-30 games. The nice thing is they are offering 100% extra value for the game trade ins, so if they offered me $1, it actually ended up being $2. Some of those games were $5-$8, so add the extra 100% it ended up being $10-$16 per game. Seriously a damn good deal. Most of the games were >$1 though. Either way I walked out with $72 in gift cards from the games, which I really don't think could be beat.

think they would take a working console with av cables and power brick but not controller?

Anything is possible. The experience differs from store to store. Worst thing they will do is say no.

Listed my games on amazon for sale and ended up getting maybe $30 more over trading in. All sold within a day.

Best to bring a controller as a safety precaution. Lots of people on other sites said it depends on store. Some stores are not even powering units up, some are. Most require a controller, some want wireless only, some will take a wired controller. Best to call first and ask the store you are going to.

they don't give you squat for them. better off selling em on ebay'

Have you been reading this thread? There is a promotion going on where they will give you a $100 GC for ANY xbox that powers on. I had a 256MB lite touch modded 360 and got a 100GC with it

Anyone tried it without a HDD for Fat 360? My HDD is messed up, but will work 100% without.

See my above post.
The best buy I went to just plugged in the power brick to see if it turned on.

Just got $120 for a 20GB Pro that is fully functional. They didn't turn it on but they did look for a controller.
