I used my Bank of America Visa debit card yesterday to make purchases from Valve, Humble Bundle, and GOG. Got a call and an email this morning stating that they have closed that account and are sending me a new card because one of these merchants has had their payment database compromised and card information has or may have been stolen.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up and see if this has happened to anyone else so we can determine who the hacked merchant was. I know my other (main) bank always flags purchases from GOG for some reason but I've never had a problem with possible fraudulent activity until now.

I don't know if it's related, but I had my credit card number stolen about a month ago. Fortunately, I noticed the fraudulent charges early.

I had my credit card on-file with Steam, and had just purchased from Humble Bundle. I did not purchase anything from GOG. I hope this helps narrow it down.

BofA (or BofM, depending on your perspective) gave me a new credit card recently because they said some database was compromised... I think it might have been theirs. Sounds like they are having issues all over.

Could be. I once had my BOA card cancelled because they thought some legitimate payments I was making were fraudulent, they weren't and it made me miss a sale of limited edition goodies :( However it did force me to check carefully through my account statement and noticed some other charges that genuinely were fraudulent a couple of days earlier, so all for the best I suppose! Still unhappy I missed the sale though (it was when Forge World were getting rid of Aeronautica Imperialis stuff, I still have several half complete squadrons :().

I once had TD Bank shut down my card without telling me. I woke up one morning for work and my card was declined at the store I stopped at every single morning. They knew me by name. Pretty embarrassing and very annoying. Long story short I called TD and they said some huge database was hacked and they wiped hundreds of thousands of cards as a preventative measure. Without telling anyone... I'm glad theydid but they failed on the communication end,

That's why I love that Citibank and BOA let you generate virtual card numbers for the credit cards, I wish all banks did it. I always generate virtual numbers for my Citibank card.

It's all about money. Some of these larger banks just go bonkers with hidden fee's and charges. I use a smaller bank (private) and pay zero fee's, but they have no advanced features like that.

end of the day.. why are people so paranoid.. many times my CC gets compromised. They just call me and say we are sending you a new card. No issues, no hassle, they take care of everything

I've been using my Chase card pretty often at Gog.com and Steam in the past month. No other online vendor. I have not gotten any fraud alerts on it yet.

I bought the humble games recently with no issues but will definitely keep an eye out.

TD did the same exact thing to me. went to get gas one morning and card was dead. but it was good that they did since some one in Spain apparently had my card info and was buying shit. TD has good security measures in place they just don't tell you when they use them.
