Healthcare.gov Chief Resigns

Meanwhile here in New York we created our own exchange like we were supposed to instead of cockblocking everything and people are signing up like gangbusters

You guys in New York are amazing. You should be your own country.

Well that speaks volumes, doesn't it?

Howard Dean and other Democrats have voiced similar concerns about the "death panel" effect that Sarah Palin was vilified for discussing years ago.

Well considering private insurers maintain entire buildings filled with death panels to deny every possible claim they can, I'm not too worried about it.

I'm sure you showed this same calm attitude when Palin brought it up. ;)

California should be its own country, too. You guys are awesome. You don't need us unwashed masses bringing you down.

If that ever happened, if like, California was cut off from the rest of the USA, it would likely collapse within a decade at the most, a few cities in California are going bankrupt, and even California itself is going bankrupt. Socialism isn't working there, too many parasites, not enough producers.

Sounds crazy until you see that if California were a country by itself, it would have the world's 8th largest economy.

Consider that for a moment, the WORLD's 8th largest economy, YET, it is broke . . . . .

California has a budget surplus this year

Not at all

http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2013/06/californias_pho.html#

And California, which faced a $26 billion deficit two years ago, expects a surplus of between $1.2 billion and $4.4 billion this year, thanks to a combination of tax increases, budget cuts and an improving economy. But it could be erased if the state were to adequately finance its teachers' pension fund, which says it will need an additional $4.5 billion a year, much of it from the state, to pay the benefits it promised.

In other words, California's state government has committed to a pension fund for teachers and has ginned up a surplus by underpaying into that fund. And notice the number: $4.5 billion. That puts it at the top end of the optimistic estimate of the surplus. And, according to this New York Times article, other state governments are playing similar games.

"at its core" If the government really wanted to get health care to people who do not have access, they would expand the medicare medicaid availability and get the coverage out to people who need it, then allow insurance companies to compete across state lines and offer programs that people can pick and choose their coverage. No one wants to see people suffer because they are unable to get help in any situation, but you do not need force the entire population of America into a government plan to do it.

+1. This. Obama's plan is idiotic. Its a handout to insurance companies. Yeah we will fine people who don't buy insurance - but the companies still don't have to compete across state lnes. Great idea...

The thing that gets me about Obama is how he is a such a failure as a liberal. A real liberal is about freedom - this guy is about control. Instead of getting us out of wars - we are still in them. Instead of legalizing drugs like pot - its the war on drugs. Instead of giving people who fall between the 'gaps' of our healthcare system a competitive plan for "free" (European style) we pay off the insurance companies - so we can continue to pay far more for medicine and get far less.

And let me tell you - when the shit hits the fan - the insurance company always leaves you up the creek with no paddle. You can have insurance - and you still aren't 'covered' for the really bad stuff that's likely to happen. What a crock - all you get is cheaper Doctor visits - but if you get hurt and see extensive hospital time - expect to go broke.

Why did insurance companies need this handout? Explain liberals - because I want to know.

I did, I routinely laughed and pointed out to anyone who I could how ridiculous her claim was. Problem is most people who would even cite a single quote by her are kinda, how we shall we say, "not intelligent".

Wow, ok where do I begin.

1) Obama has been steadily reducing our presence in the 2 wars that are costing us the most. Did you think we would just send 50 aircraft carriers overnight and have them all cleared out by dawn? It's going to take a phenomenal amount of effort to remove all the gear and personnel we have over there, and not look like total assholes doing it by leaving the country in complete shambles. Remember, part of our draw down effort is to at least looks like "we tried" before we bail completely.

2) Did you think Obama was just going to legalize drugs overnight? Again you seem to display this total lack of patience. We are closer to having legalized marijuana than under any other presidency. In fact is is legal in several states now, with more cropping up every few months. I wouldnt be surprised if it's legal in half the country by the time he leaves office. This "war on drugs" you speak of was started long before him, and much like the war in the middle east, will require draw down efforts at a slow and steady pace. This country cannot tolerate the kind of snap decision making you so desire. There would simply be too much protesting if suddenly some christian bread n butter family heard from their pastor "drugs are legal!" in their fair city.

Why did insurance companies need this handout? Explain liberals - because I want to know.
They didnt need it. This was the best we could do. We knew single payer would just never survive the propaganda machine, so this was the next best thing. It at least gets a lot more people insured. Maybe in the future when people see how much better we are as a society when we're all healthy, and dont have to worry about being permanently incapacitated by easily treatable injuries, we'll move to a "healthcare for all" system. Assuming we even make it that far.

1: Obama's administration has followed the bush timelines for the 2 wars to a T. They actually fought to extend our presence in Iraq but were unsuccessful.

“People are astonished that President Obama is doing many of the things that President Bush did. I’m not astonished. I congratulate him..." -Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., March 2013

Pushed for war on Syria.
Supported the PRISM massive NSA spying program.
Launched 20,000 Airstrikes in his first term.
Signed the NDAA into law - making it legal to assassinate Americans w/o charge or trial.
Initiated, and personally oversees a 'Secret Kill List'.
Waged war on Libya without congressional approval.
Started a covert, drone war in Yemen.
Escalated the proxy war in Somalia.
Escalated the CIA drone war in Pakistan.
Maintained a presence in Iraq even after "ending" the war.
Sharply escalated the war in Afghanistan.
Given Bush absolute immunity for everything.
Sold $30 billion of weapons to the dictatorship in Saudi Arabia.
Secretly deployed US special forces to 75 countries.
Signed an agreement for 7 military bases in Colombia.
Opened a military base in Chile.
Signed the Patriot Act extension into law.
Deported a modern-record 1.5 million immigrants.
Continued Bush's rendition program.
Signed the Monsanto Protection Act into law.
Guantanamo Bay is still open where they force feed people via tubes.

2: The War on Drugs rages on. Police have become more militarized than ever. The ratio of budget allocated to enforcement vs treatment is the same today that it was at the end of Bush's presidency. Individual states legalizing pot has nothing to do with the federal government.

3: Patients being forced to shop around for competitive prices in healthcare due to higher deductibles via healthcare savings accounts is the ONLY way to lower healthcare cost... well in addition to allowing the purchase of insurance across state lines (Free market). When Patients don't pay attention to the balance sheet because they know insurance pays for it, prices go up. Insurance covers everything little thing you buy under health care and that's why they can charge you 30$ for an Advil at the hospital. There is also a very big problem with the free market getting distorted by big government officials going to work for big pharma companies. Monsanto is a perfect example of how this works, Former US secretary of Agriculture Anne Veneman as well as Hillary Clinton are on the board of directors. Whenever the government gets involved with anything prices go up and quality goes down. Healthcare savings accounts are by far a better solution than Obamacare. It's just so unfortunate that the "Federal" Reserve has devalued our currency so much, 9% last year if you use traditional CPI's, much faster than wages are able to keep up. We are about to enter a period of stagflation where only wall st. connections to big government will be able to keep up. Our government has hurt the very people they have been trying to help. Inflation hurts the lower class most of all. Obamacare, like most government solutions, is a Band-Aid and does not fix the real problem.

To be clear the reason that pot has started to become legal is that there has been a major shift in public opinion recently.

Don't be silly. They need tax money.
The need for tax money outweighs their need to 'keep us safe' from the evils of vegetation. They still want to control your life.

That major shift being the massive comedown from the belief that Obama's tenure was going to be good for the country.

Now we need the pot to numb the pain.

TOKE!

Trying to think of any other politician that has been so demonized by the media as to be forbidden from quoting on the basis of "you're dumb just for quoting that politician".

Truly a unique hivemind of derision.

She's been demonized for good reason. There is nothing good about who she is or what she does.

So this is what i call "the right wing workout". Basically you copy and pasted a buzz feed that somebody else spent a few hours writing up, a list of totally out of context zingers that fail to take into consideration any previous events, and try to represent them all as equal "facts" each independent of the other. Now, I would have to spend several hours debunking all of them, because they are all utterly garbage. But thats how the "workout" works. It's designed to wear me down. You take 10 seconds to make a baseless statement, and I have to take 10 minutes refuting each one.

The cool thing is we both know it. You posted that because you know it sounds good, and will exhaust anyone attempting to correct it to represent reality.

You use it all the time. That's what people who think they're better than others tend to use on forums.

Whatever. The guy says "death to liberals" And wants to watch our cities burn but I'm a bigot cuz I said he lives in flyover country. Do us all a favor and get real bro.

Really. There is nothing good about a woman who rose from humble beginnings to become the governor of a state(the first female governor of Alaska...as well as the first female VP candidate for the Republicans...amazing how this "first" crap is only observed by people like you when it's a Democrat), after already having rooted out corrupt officials in her own party in the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and in the meantime raised five children, including a disabled child.

Nothing good whatsoever.

What is wrong with you?

So reacting to violent stupidity(which I reported...you might do the same instead of spew some hatred) with bigotry is okay because you can't control your emotions or exercise any practice of what you preach?

Your world that you live in is perfect for you, isn't it, bro?

Stiletto, you need a space after 'stupidity'. Use a space before parentheses...lol.

(I've been drinking so don't mind me but it's true none the less)

I mean presently. In fact pretty much everything after her run for vice pres.

Oh, okay. All that crap means nothing because you don't like her views. Gotcha. Somehow, I don't have that derangement towards Al Gore. I disagree with him and don't take him particularly seriously, but to say "there's nothing good about him" on that basis would be as dishonest as your statement about Palin.

But hey, this type of fervent polarization and treatment of disagreement as a declaration of war can only lead to good things, right?

I don't think you know what bigotry is.

And what he said was dumb, but you reported it?

What a strange little tangent
