So my laptop just keeps crashing and now I can't even boot into windows 7. Not even using safe-mode. I was messing around with my cloud storage apps on my computer. Organizing the folders and shortcuts. And I noticed that this one that I tried out called JustCloud was just a stupid 15mb trial so I went to open Revo Uninstaller Pro and it started to open, AVG 2014 popped up asking for firewall permission for revo and I clicked yes and all the sudden before it finished opening I got an error saying revo had stopped working. So I closed & re-opened it a couple times but still no go and then explorer.exe decided to stop working. So I was left with just my wallpaper showing. Brought open my task manager, hit start a new task in order to run explorer.exe but 2 seconds after hitting enter, it stops working again. Tried a couple times. No go. Rebooted. Still no go. Rebooted into safe mode. Still no go. As soon as I enter my login password, explorer crashes. So yea, dont quite know what to do. Except use Toshiba's recovery partition that came on my hard drive. Unless someone had any other ideas. Which I am hoping for. Cause I share this computer with my GF and we both have a lot of text documents and pictures that are not all backed up yet....

yes I know. Were fucking stupid. I am normally ontop of these things. But in all my 10yrs of building PCs and troubleshooting I've never just had explorer stop working out of nowhere. I've had windows be screwed up to the point to where I had no choice but to reformat and reinstall windows. But I've always been able to boot up using safe mode and back up the rest of my files.

Most of our stuff is backed up but there is some new stuff that we usually keep on our tablets but backed up on the computer cause we sold them and they are really important. Shoulda used my box or drive accounts to back them up. Please tell me there's a way to fix this. Or at least get into windows one more time before doing a recovery.

If system restore was on try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy9ELtcPI54

If not, install the hdd in your desktop pc and ghost the drive, or get a usb dock and another 2,5 inch and install windows on the new drive and put the old drive in the dock so copy out your important files off your old drive.

I dont have a windows disc. Already thought bout that. And ghosting it would be a great idea. Ive had to do that before. But alas, the PC you see in my Sig was stolen. And I am in the process of building a new one. Moneys tight so I've been ordering it a couple components at a time. hopefully I can get ahold of a friend soon and go to their place so I can use their PC to perform that option. and if that doesn't work out then its looking like I am just gonna have to bite the bullet and boot from the recovery partition on the hard drive. And start over. Right now I am tunning Windows Memory Diagnostic and I am gonna try and boot back into safe mode. If I can just get it to boot into windows for like 30min then I can make a copy of windows from the ISO I have. Then run a repair or system restore point

Did you try shutdown and re-run explorer.exe using task manager in safe mode? it always just crashes / nothing happens?

Yea I did. Mentioned that in the OP. I've ran syscheck and memchecks. All to no avail. I managed to finally be able to log into Ubuntu (have it in dual-boot config, running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, and Win7 Home 64-bit

I just realized that this is somehow under "General gaming" when I clicked on OS not general gaming lol wtf
