NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Could you link the fittings you are using for the reservoir ?

I bought mine from FrozenCPU. You can buy them in packs of 6 or individually in a variety of colors including white, red, green, blue, orange, purple, chrome, black chrome, flat black, gold, etc. They seem to work well with the primoflex tubing too.

Monsoon free center compression 3/8 x 5/8 black chrome

They are just shy of 1 inch in diameter so they should fit the holes in the back panel. However if there is an alignment problem with the reservoir or the back panel, they may not clear the back panel. The reservoir is supposed to have brass thread inserts that will allow some slack when mounting so this might compensate if there is a problem. Otherwise small diameter extenders may be required to get through the back plate.

Edit: Be advised I still don't have the reservoir or the M1, so proceed at your own risk.

Hey Zoob, unless you shipped to another address, I don't think you'll get the free shipping deal. It was only for US (lower-48), and in the M1 spreadsheet it says you're from Canada.

Drklu & S0skey should, if they can straighten everything out.

EDIT: And Zoob from TX! :)

Awesome! Thanks AFD!

Anyone else planning to add a little AcoustiPack foam to the sidepanels?

Not sure how effective it would be. The material in my Fractal Design cases has always been nice, but I doubt very much the small amount of available surface area for foam in the M1 would be effective at dampening.

I'm still going to try it, though.

EDIT: I'll probably cut up an extra ATX PSU rubber gasket to fit the SFX bracket. Can't hurt.

Suggestions for a high performance and long term cooling fluids would be awesome.....noobies to h2o need this info (yeah that includes myself):D

There are several brands of premixed fluid out there. You might want to just look at the reviews and decide which is best for you.

Here is some info on Mayhems offerings.

Mayhem X1 (premix or concentrate)
Mayhems Ultra Pure H20

You can also go with distilled water and a biocide. Some think this is best. Biocide prevent algae from growing. Biocide and distilled water are cheap. Don't confuse distilled water with filtered water, mineral water, or carbonated water. :D Distilled water, or better yet, double distilled water is pure H20 (no salts, minerals, ions, etc).

Depending on the components in your loop, you may also need a mixed metal inhibitor to prevent corrosion. Some of the premixes out there have it all.

I am sure others have additional recommendations.

Awesome! Thanks AFD!

Sure thing, I'm just glad they're willing to make things right. He told me that everyone that qualified for the free shipping would be credited, and that the free US shipping option should be fixed sometime tomorrow.

Due to this mix-up, he extended the discount codes for an additional week.

Just checked it and they want 8.78 for shipping, so maybe the free shipping part has ended?
I haven't ordered yet, $ is tight at the moment with heating season ramping up.... gotta sell something on ebay fast i guess!

Same. Shoot I guess I should have pulled the trigger a week ago

Should be straightened out tomorrow. There's now 1 more week left for the ODD deal..

Digistor was also having problems with its free shipping option a few days ago. However, I emailed them before completing my order and Larry politely and promptly replied, assuring me that it was an error that they were working to fix. He told me that if the site still didn't show free shipping when I placed my order, he would manually process a credit. However, when I returned to place my order, free shipping was working. I received the blu-ray drive this morning. It was a California delivery so it only took one day to arrive.

They have been very responsive.

Props AFD, think I'll order one tomorrow assuming the free shipping is sorted out :)

Very glad to hear that, and thanks for the info WJ! When I was at their site earlier tonight, the shipping prices were like roulette, and kept changing by the hour. Lol, weird.

I was thinking about getting a small order of Damplifier, and trying that. It's a thin, lightweight vibration dampener used in car audio installations to prevent harmonics that occur when the car's sheet metal vibrates. I was thinking that a small section applied to the lower half of each side panel might help stiffen them up just enough to stop any resonance from fans or hard drives.

I might have to check around the SPCR forums and see if there's something similar, but more suitable for HTPC applications. Do you think the AcoustiPack would do okay reflecting heat, or would it actually absorb and trap it?

Just got my customs letter through the post (UK) I've paid the invoice and my M1 should be with me tomorrow. :D

Excitement got to much I'm off to Parcelforce to pick it up.

Great, now i have all parts except for a GPU laying aroung here and no case to stuff it into :D

Panels and vibration noise possibly, however the mostly ventilated open panels will still pass though a lot of higher frequency noises, eg. hdd spinning sound, fan noises.

It will help absorb and reduce it, but the degree to which it will help is limited by the cases openness. I have considered using some myself, but so far there isnt anything cheaply available to my knowledge thats worth trying yet. Might go pick some up from jaycar electronics, but will need to have the case first, and consider airflow first.

a st45sf-g just arrived, a h220 yesterday. paid 82 and 150 euros. i'd buy a gpu but currently does not seem like a good time, with price breaks from nvidia, unstables prices for the new radeons...gonna wait another month, i guess

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but how much space is there between the Apogee Drive II and the fan bracket?
I'm trying to figure out if a 38 mm radiator with a 25 mm Gentle Typhoon will fit.

Edit: See this post

Bump!

Edit: See this post

Those renders are helpful, but the biggest height issue about the AD2 is not the height of the pump or heatsink (which you can remove), but the height of the fitting which goes on the outlet port.

So first you need to know which orientation you will put the AD2. Then you need to know where the outlet port needs to connect to. Then you can maybe angle the outlet port one way or another (it moves +/- 30 degrees). Then pick an appropriate short 45 or 90 degree rotary fitting... and only then will you know the maximum depth of the radiator.

Incidentally, the shortest 90 degree rotary available is this one: http://koolance.com/fitting-single-black-swiveling-elbow-low-profile which is 17mm (effectively 20mm)

I'm waiting to get the case before making any more assumptions about radiator and fittings.

Oooh this is exciting. Somehow I thought those to the UK would arrive last.

Checking with her indoors whether I got a letter too...

Perhaps if panels are resonating it will help a little, but I think vibration damping like on the PSU will be more useful. Otherwise I think the key to low noise is going to be minimising airflow restrictions and choosing an S or T series CPU

Hello guys :)
Long time lurker and finally decided to create an account a few days ago.
Just popping in to let ya know that I got my customs form through the door there now :D (UK)

Surprised at how quick it came, haven't even decided on parts yet.
33 quid charge so not too bad :)

Also just got my customs letter through the post.

For anyone intrested the costs's are:
Import VAT: £19.89
Clearance Fee (Zero rated for VAT Purposes): £13.50
Total: £33.39

I had no idea my case had even shipped, i didn't get any shipping email or notification.
Really caught me by surprise that UK early shipment list would get it this early.

Thanks Ncase!!!! :D

That is outrageous, how the fuck is that justified?! It costs less than that to deliver a parcel within the UK! I'm used to paying around £8 or slightly more but I can't remember ever paying that much for clearance.

I googled a bit and it seems it's the Parcelforce clearance fee apparently people have in the past refused to pay it but changes in the legislation may mean they can hold your parcel to ransom. According to this advice we should've got w360 to label the packages with the phrase:
"Goods to be Customs cleared by the importer"
I also found a post that Parcelforce refused to answer a freedom of information request for a breakdown of the £13.50: here & here

Hmm... I guess I will have to do the same thing :p
Thanks!

I looked at these too before buying. They look good, just make sure you take into account the diameter of the fittings you plan to screw into them. Compression fitting diameters are larger than 17mm so these 90s can't be used on a CPU block directly. 5/8in OD tubing is 15.875mm so not much room for a clamp. The total height is around 20mm when you take into account the head on top. These are probably fine if mounted on an ADII since the fittings mount on the side of the block, but they are also cubic so that might take a little more space when on an angle like on the ADII.

This feels like the calm before the storm - this thread is going to go nuts when cases show up in the US.

#650 arrived :D

For anyone intrested the costs's are:
Import VAT: £19.89
Clearance Fee (Zero rated for VAT Purposes): £13.50
Total: £33.39

Mine costs were
Import VAT: 10.91€
Clearance Fee: 4.50€
VAT: 38.54€
Total: 53.95€

I'm starting to hate my country...

Anyway, BIG THANK's for Necere and wahaha360 !!! :)

Does it come with some sort of customs declaration or invoice?

Does it come with some sort of customs declaration or invoice?
Yes, it has Commercial Invoice from Lian Li
It's declared as Computer Case of total value $90

Inside the box is only ncase (with accessories).

The f.ckers in my custom office wanted a proof that I paid $90. I didn't want to make some fake confirmations, so I declared the real paid amount ($250 in my case) and told them how things gone (indiegogo/etc...).

[edit]

Oh, btw, Slovakia.

Are we going to have a builds thread eventually on this? I'd love to know what works, what doesn't before I buy my gear!

It's pretty awesome how many EU citizens we have on this thread getting this case :).

Anything made for cars probably smells a lot stronger than stuff made for PCs. The smell normally goes away after a while, but some people say it makes them feel sick.

I'd be wary of automotive-class stuff. The adhesive is probably designed for higher temperatures and may leave strong residue if you try to remove it later.

I've worked in and around my car a bit, taking off door panels and replacing speakers. I've seen this Damplifier stuff in action and it works okay. My advice to people considering buying it for their car is to turn the fucking music down so they don't have to buy anything. Also start saving money for hearing aids.

AcoustiPack has been around for a long time and they're more established in the PC industry than most other brands.

BE / NL cases will arrive soon, mine did today but nobody was home :(
31€ import duty which is below what I expected.

Wahaha360: I don't know what kind of a wizard you are but you got a Taiwan package land-shipped to me in less than two weeks with minimal import duty. I have never been able to get something that fast and cheap. Thanks for that !

BTW: good idea that I ordered my PSU ASAP when I saw the first EU people get theirs. I'll probably get mine tomorrow or the day after.
