NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Was just over at Prava's tracking spreadsheet, and found this info kind of interesting..

Code:
[B]SKU Serial # Range Description[/B]

N121118M10B2	0001-0240 Black M1 with Extra NO ODD Top Cover
N121118M10B1	0241-0800 Black M1
N121118M10S2	0801-0880 Silver M1 with Extra NO ODD Top Cover
N121118M10S1	0881-1000 Silver M1

So, if you log-in to your NCASES.com account to get your SKU, you can narrow down what serial number you may, or may not get.

Why in the world the Extra NO ODD tops have lower serialization is beyond me, since that perk was added later. Not sure why, but I probably would've spent the extra $15 simply for the chance to have a lower serial :p

Heaven-forbid I actually get #0666, but if so, it might be up for trade to some lucky devil with a sub-100 number
DevilSmiley.gif
My M1's SKU is N121118M10B1, so with my devilish-good luck I'm hoping for 666 or 777 :D

Did you guys who received the case too have a green QC (Quality-Check?) sticker inside the case? At the floor. Pain in the ass to remove it, specially the clue that was in it...

Edit. BTW I already had that Swiftech Microres before that adamantiums res was public so I'm going with it, but it doesn't fit as good as in this: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1040061780&postcount=4044

Or should I say the res fits, but those ports aren't that perfect line to the holes in the case. It's still good alternate choise to that adamantiums res, but I personally would prefer that adamantiums version. (And to adamantium: Yes, it is called that way no matter what does the FrozenQ shop say. :D Thank you too!) That reservoir would have been perfect if I hadn't hurry before...

wahaha360 - any chance of another campaign for panel kits? I would really LOVE to get a set of silver panels, I would even buy another whole case if I had to to get them.

I asked Dan (?) if I could get extra silver panels when before I ordered my black M1, got shot down unfortunately... But yeah I would love this.

I don't think they're quite the same, actually. Take a look at this pic (click for bigger):

The socket on the Impact seems to be shifted slightly closer to the VRM board. Also, the heatspreader/cover seems thicker on the daughterboard compared to the P8Z77-I and Z87-I.

Do you have the port next to the RAM then? Can you check to verify, one way or another, whether it works with the port next to the VRM board?

Does anyone have a Apogee II to test with a Asus Impact? I'm about to order parts and just wanted to be sure. I know there was some discussion a few pages back that if it fits on the deluxe it will fit on the Impact. Then Necere found that the Impact is oriented slightly different. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here but I just want to double check. Also, is low profile ram mandatory? I really like the look of the trident-x but it is pretty tall.

If the AD2 fits with outlet towards the daughterboard, then you can use taller memory. If it doesn't fit, then the outlet will need to be oriented above the memory and you will need low-profile sticks.

I suggest to buy the board and the AD2, but wait with memory purchase until you have measured yourself :)

I hav to say i hate the combination of feet and panel ... If I would had known it before i had purchased the black one -.- ... nice surprise ...

edit. with black frets it looks like it is levitating. Like in the photos of The_Cheese
The feet *were* supposed to be black. I'm trying to figure out what happened. This is upsetting.

Sounds like a plan, thank you again WiSK!

I'm so glad you posted to say so! I think even on the silver M1 the black feet look much better, judging from the photo posted the nice contrast between the silver panels and black I/O panel + black feet has been lost.

If black feet is what they were contracted to do, can Lian Li be required to make replacement black feet and cover the cost of postage? If all 4000 need to be replaced though

I decided both black and silver needed to have black feet way back when I got the first sample and tried the different combinations. The silver panels/feet were too much of a mismatch.

Unfortunately, now that I'm looking back through the emails with them, it looks like it may be our fault. I can't find where it was specified the feet should all be black. There was quite a bit of back and forth to iron out details of the order, so it's possible it got overlooked. There were only 200 silver cases, so at most there's 800 feet that need to be replaced.

Is there any shop in EU that have the right case feet? I can find 35mm and 45mm Lian Li case feet, but not 40mm.

Kind of glad I opted for the black M1 now :). Although painting those feet seems like it would be pretty easy rather than paying for and shipping 800 more to 200 people. I agree though, the black would look better and give a nice contrast to the silver. Oh well shit happens.

I'll be happy with either, but just remember that it's a lot easier to paint the silver feet black, and near impossible to make black feet silver.

If this is actually a screw-up on a larger scale (all silver cases receiving silver feet), then I'm sure we can get some creative trades going..

Or easier yet, ask Lian Li if they could make available both black & silver 40mm feet from their back catalog for us to order through their resellers (think there's at least 3 shops in the US alone that stock Lian Li case feet from their current catalog of parts).

Personally, I was hoping to find a spare set of silver feet to stain a copper/bronze for under my black M1 (though I'd really prefer to keep an original set in case it turns out bad).

Or NCASE can open up an online shop and sell custom panels and feet and accessories ;)

This was all part of the plan all along wasn't it? :D

at least that makes it much more manageable to fix. Thoughts questions that immediately spring to mind:

can 800 new black be made now? I assume it's not a major tooling requirement for Lian?
are there enough to spare black cases to pinch the feet off those?
are there many silver case yet to ship and is it worth holding those if the correct feet can be put in the shipping package?

I think that it will not fit. Didn´t found any picture with the AD2, but i found one with the Sabertooth. The Fittings are very close to the Ram.

But the Sabertooth has a lot more space between the CPU and RAM Slots than the Impact:

They are not just close, they are above. That's what I said before. If you have the outlet port above the ram, then you need low-profile ram.

The feet aren't made by LL, they come from a supplier. This site (which appears to be temporarily offline) sells "joystick feet" which appear to be virtually identical to the ones we're using:

Certainly not for all 200.

are there many silver case yet to ship and is it worth holding those if the correct feet can be put in the shipping package?
I think at this point all the cases are either in a warehouse at the postal company awaiting shipment, or already in shipping. Sorting through them to locate the silver ones, unpacking them, unscrewing the case feet and replacing them, repackaging them... it'd just be simpler to send replacement feet.

Do you know of any low profile ram that is clocked higher than 1600mhz?

I've been following this for about a month or two now but missed out on all the fun. I registered just to express my jealousy and hope that another production run will occur!

It looks like you guys did an amazing job on this product. Well done.

are there many silver case yet to ship and is it worth holding those if the correct feet can be put in the shipping package?

Given that the packages are at a Taiwanese post office depot or in transit to buyers then I'd say that's impossible. I wouldn't want my silver case held up anyway. We're enthusiasts - feet can be replaced if necessary at some point in the future. I need this case in my life NOW!

edit: beaten by Necere

Sorting through them to locate the silver ones...
I meant literally just put them in the box, no unscrewing anything, but it's moot as the shipping process is too far advanced

given that the supplier is actually not LL, were these feet a standard part as far as the supplier is concerned?

Might also help to check how many recipients even WANT black feet.
I for one, don't really care.

Have you Necere heard anything from/about Demciflex? Would like to put an order to them, but want to know if I can order those filters with the design that you gave to them or do I have to design some different/easier version for myself... If there is much interest to the Demciflex filters, people should announce it here more so there would be some proof for Demciflex and maybe they would have more interest to add the NCASE M1 filters to their site.

If we can hope for two weeks, then maybe we can get through the following two. :(

No new info on the reservoirs or video, but... I did get my Primoflex Advanced LRT clear tubing (very nice), my black chrome Monsoon free center compression fittings (very very nice), my Swiftech rotary 90 degree fittings (nice), Mayhem Aurora Tharsis Red concentrate (very nice), my Black Ice GTX Extreme Gen Two 120mm radiator (very very very nice), and my Z2 DDC pump fan mount bracket in black. Now all I need is an M1 and my reservoir. I sure would like to hear what others are planning for custom water loops.

Could you link the fittings you are using for the reservoir ?

Received mine today. Totally unexpected and I havent even thought about what I'm putting in it as wasnt expecting it for another couple of months. Totally made up though that this came off.

the samsung LP sticks are clocked at 1600 and do much higher than that pretty easily from what i've read. used to be pretty cheap but it looks like it's just about doubled since i bought mine, if you can even find it for sale.

I just got a response from them today. They're quite busy it seems, but they should have a custom order page up by next week. It will have the single 120mm filters, at least. The single piece bottom filter design I showed a pic of a few pages back will take a bit longer; it's best if I test it on the case first, and I don't actually have a production M1 yet -- I'm waiting for mine to ship, just like most of you.

Yeah I can't find any in 2x8gb configurations. I'm starting to think a custom loop just isn't in the cards with a Asus Impact Mobo.

I did find these lp sticks were able to achieve 2133mhz
OC results
I was really hoping for ram that could at least come close to the capabilities of the Impact (3000mhz). Not sure if that will be possible with having to use LP ram.

Crucial makes some VLP ram in 8GB DIMM's, look at the Ballistix Sport VLP and Ballistix Tactical VLP series:

Sport: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-Profile-DDR3-1600-BLS2C8G3D1609ES2LX0/dp/B00A14ZT8I
Tactical: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-Tactical-DDR3-1600-BLT2C8G3D1608ET3LX0/dp/B00A14ZTRO

At launch, a lot of people had great success overclocking them up to ~2133+ but it seems later batches might have switched chips, and more recent reviews haven't seen nearly the same OC headroom.

For a long time I was planning on using the Tactical VLP and removing the heatsinks, until I saw Newegg run a special (plus rebate!) on some 2133 Viper 3 a few weeks ago. Thankfully the Viper 3 fits fine with the H220/Glacer block the way I plan on using it.
