I have a small home network that employs WHS2011. I own a Microsoft Surface RT. I stream ALL my media from my WHS over gigabit, nothing is stored local on my client peripherals and pc's.

My chic and me like to stream movies (stored on the WHS) on our tablets...like everyone else I guess. Since I own a Surface RT, which meets my needs damn near perfectly for tablet use, I use the native video app when watching movies.

The native app reads my movie library nicely. However I simply want a better experience browsing the library. I actually like the native video app and would rather not have to buy an app (the ones available kind of suck so far anyway). All I want is to browse my library by cover art, not the beginning sequence of the friggin movie still.

Is there a way (read program) that I can install on my WHS that can embed metadata in the individual movie folders that has .jpg cover art for browsing my library...

You can try mediabrowser3. They should have a client app in the windows store. Another option is Plex Server. They have a Plex client app in the windows store. I currently have plex installed on synology nas and it has worked out pretty well streaming to my Samsung TV which has a plex app. I haven't had a chance to mess around with mediabrowser3 yet but I do use mediabrowser2 on my main HTPC and it has worked like a champ.

I likeMedia Center Master above all others.

Here is how it looks in my folders.

To the left you can see how the movies are labeled. You can change this to include many things like rating, quality (720p,1080p), year, etc.

Also in the move folder it includes extra fan art and well you can see from the pic a few other thigns. srt file, xml files, and nfo files. Check it out and see if it will work for you.

also works with TV shows including episodes and some documentaries.
