Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Just a quick question now that ARR has been out for a while and maybe has been patched a few times by now, what are the requirements to run the game at a stable 60FPS @ 1080p? Preferably at max setting excluding stuff that are known to be buggy and cause way too much of an FPS drop.

Does the game suffer from CPU/GPU bottlenecks at certain parts to make this impossible BTW?

Mentioning your GPU/CPU combo and your average FPS would be great.

I stay around 60fps with the rig in sig at 1080p. As mentioned above, it will dip in populated areas. I do not have all the settings maxed out though. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm more CPU limited than anything.

Thank you both for the quick replies.

Yeah I figured heavily populated areas will suffer from inevitable FPS drop which if I'm not mistaken is mostly limited by the CPU (unless the GPU is running at 100% during those situations as well).

My specs are in my signature and I need a GPU mainly to play ARR at 1080p with stable FPS except when there's a million things on the screen.

2 things:

1- Should I bother overclocking my CPU or will it just give minimal results? At the moment my MB auto overclocks it to 3.7Ghz.

2- ARR known to run better with AMD or Nvidia? Any recommendations? 7950 enough for what I'm looking for? Currently looking at that along with the GTX 670 or maybe if I got a nice deal for a GTX 680

Yea the game can be pretty demanding in heavily populated areas I get 30'ish FPS and 99% GPU load with a single Titan, thats at 2560x1440 and max settings. I thought about going SLI for the game but meh, i'm mostly fine and can maintain 60 FPS away from overcrowded places.

Square Enix joined AMD's Gaming Evolved program with ARR, i'm not sure if the upcoming DX11 client will be affected by that. At the moment I believe the game is running better on Nvidia but thats only based on what I read on the official forums, no own experiences here with AMD cards.

Most Gaming Evolved games run just as well if not faster on Nvidia equipment. AMD seems to strive to keep the games in their Gaming Evolved program accessible by any PC hardware. So don't expect your Titan to get crapped on when the DX11 client comes out. They don't have a vendor specific "PhysX" / TXAA type technology to implement at this time. Even if they were to add Mantle support at a later date, there would still be a robust Direct X lane available for Nvidia to optimize around with the same visual features.

:)

So I'm creeping my way up with my Warrior, got up to lvl41 yesterday and tanked Stone Vigil for the first time. I'm really liking the change of pace tanking gives in comparison to healing, totally opposite perspective. I think its going to be a whole lot easier farming tomes with 2 classes to choose from.

Speaking of tomes, I've got about 600 Philo tomes banked for when the tank hits 50. Not gonna spend anymore on the WHM as all I need are a lvl90 ring, and lvl90 chest and headpiece which all need myth.

Still not even remotely bored of this game. I'm quite happy.

Curious, where are all the files that go along with this game? When I uninstalled it, the space on my hard drive didn't change.

C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

For me, it's a 9.15GB directory.

Really? When I go in there, it's pretty much nothing. Also curious, if I log in, will it still update, even if I haven't paid my monthly? I want it to update to see if anything shows up. But yeah, I uninstalled it and it seemed like it didn't delete data at all...

Not sure about the update, I think you need to log in first. However, here's where the majority of the data resides (Aside from about 800MB of movies):

Thank you. Seriously, you're really the first person to show where it resides. Google hasn't helped me much on it.

SE still hasn't gotten back to me.

Finally, success.

We have received and reviewed the request for assistance regarding a lost SQUARE ENIX ID. The information submitted in this ticket was sufficient enough to allow assistance with this request. The SQUARE ENIX ID has been reactivated.

We shall see, when I get home though. We all know how these things can pan out.

Ran Coil Turn 4 the other day, holy shit its the first time I've ever had to push the limit of my DPS in any MMO. They aren't kidding when they said it's a DPS check.

Which server is recommended to join for the European region and why btw?

AFAIK There are no actual servers in Europe and they're located in NA (and Japan but that's too far away), so do people just join whatever's popular overall or still go by their region?

Yea, as you said servers are in NA (West coast I believe) and Japan. Just join whatever server you want in the NA/EU list as the pings should be similar. There are a bunch of us on Leviathon and a few spread out over some other servers.

Frusterated... I love the FF franchise, but I just cannot get into this game. I've tried warrior, archer, pugilist and lancer. Perhaps I need to roll up a caster.

That's a shame, the classes you tried I have heard good things from others that play them. I've gotten my warrior up to 47 now and am loving every minute of it just as much as I did my White Mage. If you are going to roll a caster a suggestion would be an Arcanist as at end game you can be a healer or DPS (not at the same time, and it takes an item to switch your stats so you can become the other.) You get pets to play with that have different roles in combat. All around they seem interesting. The only drawback I see right off the bat is that it's a DPS class so queue times will be a pain in the ass unless you know a healer or a tank.

I thin kthe problem, and why I got burned out, is that because it ties weapons to classes and gives you little to no way to build differently, all the classes of that type feel too similar.

A Puglist will never be anything other then the same pugilist as every other person playing it, there's no room for customizing your character in terms of abilities/how you play.

I wish they would have went with the whole "soul crystal" thing (like for jobs) for base classes, and not tied them to specific weapons and allowed for more skils and a selection of them.

So people would be able to make their characters more unique/different.

The current system like with v1.0 feels a lot like Secret of Mana on the SNES. Your weapon defined your jobs, but each job didn't have much customization beyond that.

In a way, the current system is better than the FFXI main job/support job customization. In XIV, we can use abilities from other classes/jobs to a certain extent.

In my opinion, something like the Sphere Grid system from FFX/FFX-2 and possibly FF12 would have been a great idea to implement. Let's say you are a Pugilist and want to further customize it. The Sphere Grid or similar system should allow a player customize it further. Other MMOs have gone down this route of customizing each class/job-- World of Warcraft, TERA Online, RIFT Online, Secret World, and if it counts, EVE Online. I'm sure there are many more I forgot at the moment.

For XIV, it feels almost semi-static. On one hand, changing weapons becomes your job but you are similar to other classes/jobs out there. On the other, you can use abilities from other classes to a certain extent and are limited to what job you are currently on.

A bit more variety would have been nice, honestly.

Got my 2nd relic today, the Warriors Axe. Burned down hydra through titan with mostly FC groups and it was easy breezy. Got a real good look at titan and I made it all the way through the fight without dying or even really being close to dying (was dpsing). Funny thing was, the titan warrior Axe dropped also, so I snagged that too. Damn does that thing look badass!

That was a good fight, even if I did die.... :) I've been using my tomes for DL gear for my Bard alt, so I need a few more tome runs before I can turn-in for his relic.

DPS sim for Bard and Summoner
http://chocobro.com/sim.php

I'm blindly trusting this and using it as my upgrade path for BIS gear (unfortunately mostly myth)
Legs > Ring > Gloves > Head is my path so far. Gloves this week, head in 2 more, then I'll look again for the next upgrades.

Whenever Crystal tower comes out, I'll be so overgeared that I'll get no upgrades (even just from myth) from there. Its like I'll run it once for the experience and never run it again.....

Got my first experience in coil tonight. Didn't wanna rush in there and get burned out on it too soon so I took my time. Gotta say, it was pretty fun. Someone already cleared T1 and was on the boss, Downed that fairly quick but got stuck on the boss for T2. It was a new group that hadn't been all in there together though so I have no doubt we will down it tomorrow and be on to T3.

T2 is easy if you get silence rotations and rot rotations down. It's a little stressful as bard managing both, but its nothing too bad.

T3 isnt really a turn. There's no boss and no loot, just a fun aggro/run/fly in the air event. It takes about 30 minutes to clear turn 3 on your first run.

It seems that each time we try to run it, someone isn't there and we are picking up someones friend. They are picking up our strategy quite quickly at least. We took turn 2 down tonight, we had such bad luck at times, wiped about 4 times i think right near the end. The time we beat it it seemed so easy and we were all pretty much at full HP at the end. 2 Healer items dropped, the Circlet, and a Bracelet. Me and the other healer split the loot and I ended up getting the Circlet since the upgrade was larger for me than for him, and he got the Bracelet.

My first Allagan piece! I can't wait to run more.

So yeah I gotta run CM literally hundreds of times to grind out philosophy tomes to be wearing good enough armor to be able to qualify for other dungeons? GREAT. Go fuck yourselves Square Anus and subscription cancelled. BaCK to BF4. I don't get how people standing for this mind numbing garbage gameplay.

Can't tell if serious?

You don't run CM for tomes?

No, you don't.

But thanks for coming out.

Started Twintania (Coil turn 5) attempts. Its interesting cause some videos make some of the things look really easy, but experiencing them was a complete cluster fuck.

We'll get it down though, we made significant progression from initial pulls. There's still a long way to go.

Our group was gonna try to get together last night but it fell through. Hoping to finish turn 1 and 2 again on Thursday and try out turn 4 on Friday. I'm really enjoying it cause once you get it, you feel like nothingcan stop you... Till you wipe lol

FFXIV ARR seems to be great at putting you back in your place. Been through turn 1 and hopefully turn 2 this weekend. Can take down titan HM np... at least until Sunday when every pull a few people would die for dumb reasons (and a few from server lag). We actually didn't kill him and we ran out of time! (Me as tank just watched on)

Oh well killed him np Monday (we were getting relic for someone's newest class)

Big patch right around the corner....2.1 is here!

clicky

Anyone still playing? The LS is extra dead these days lol

I'm still having loads of fun

Been reading the forums to see if it's worth to come back. Lovely crying there is, against the housing prices.

Still... I don't see me coming back without 2.2. With most of endgame looking the same, restriction on dyes, and lots of bad designed armors, I need vanity slots to get back to leveling. And vanity is 2.2, which is propably March-April.

There is no new endgame past coil, but to be fair, most people cant clear Turn 2, let alone Turn 4 or 5. A lot of the content is to help people gear up faster to clear coil.

Anyone by chance have buddy passes from the CE or intel promo codes their not using? I'd love to try this game out.

Coffaholic, you still playing? how is 2.1? i had to stop due to studies for now.

It's awesome. They added a shit ton of content and although pvp is kind of bored atm that's in as well. Currently working on T5 and cleared the new raid on the first night but all the extreme mode stuff is really fun and challenging.

It's also SUPER easy to level and gear out alts now with due roulette. Still having a blast myself with 5 relics and every class to 50 lol..
