Microsoft has pulled a Windows update from its website amid reports that a "limited number" of Surface RT tablets were bricked by the update. Wait, did Microsoft even sell more than a "limited number" of those things? ;)

In place of the update, Microsoft posted an apology for the problem and said it’s trying to resolve the situation quickly. The company says it will give updates as soon as possible. It says the problem affected only a limited number of users, some of whom had difficulty downloading the update.

same running windows 8.1 on my Surface RT without a problem (knocks on wood)

I think they said (actual Windows Blog) that 90% of people updated with no issues. It's that small 10% that made them pull it. I guess it's not too late to be Good Guy Microsoft.

Not discounting the accuracy of that very rounded-seeming percentage but if your major update was bricking units I imagine its in your best interest to downplay it.

Good thing they didn't brick that 900 million in unsold inventory. They would have alot more pissed off customers if they actually sold those. :D

I will never understand the idiocy of designing something that can be bricked by an operating system update; you should at least have the ability to boot from an external CD drive/memory stick or something.

it says 'problems' not bricked..

MS isn't going to come out and say "bricked" because its not in their best interest.

Meanwhile every site has reported that they're in fact getting bricked. Forums are full of people complaining their Surface RT's were bricked. Twitter is full of complaints of Surface RT's getting BRICKED.
