Curious, was anyone able to click on the Google Play link and get to the order screen?

I feel like I'm going to cry... fuck you so much Verizon... so much...

I seriously feel like calling up Verizon to bitch at them.

Yea, verizon screws their customers on devices so often and it all has to deal with their damn draconian laws.

Did anyone see their new droid commercial? 4 minutes of them pimping a phone they didn't make, pumping up the Kevlar design like it will prevent a screen break...

Kind of wish the 299 rumor was true but owell I'm still going to pay it.

The problem is, outside of AT&T, Verizon easily has the best coverage. Maybe go for AT&T Go?

Trying to catch up on this thread so I guess I missed the part where Verizon isn't going to carry this?

I really, really wanted to be able to use this phone. Damn.

That was more or less concluded on over a month ago when the Nexus 5 (LG D820) passed through the FCC. No Verizon bands :p

GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850 (B5), UMTS1700/2100 (B4), UMTS1900 (B2), UMTS2100 (B1), CDMA800 (BC0),
CDMA1900 (BC14), LTE700 (B17), LTE850 (B5), LTE1700/2100 (B4), LTE1900 (B2), LTE1900 (B25), CDMA800 (BC10), LTE800 (B26),
TD-LTE2500 (B41), cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A, LTE

Oh and btw,no one else on the planet uses BC10 other than Sprint, not even any of their MNVOs :D

If it does LTE700, would it be able to get B13 (VZW) with a software update?

It does get B4 which is a VZW AWS band.

Yeah I don't know. Have read Google has decided to not bring to Verizon and that's all I really got.

Lovely. Trying to power through this GNex slowness waiting for this thing and VZW goes and makes it so that even Google won't make a model for them.

Thanks for catching me up guys.

Juuuusstttt lovely.

Closest you'll get to a AOSP experience on Verizon right now is Moto X or Droid Maxx

I'd say keep your eye on the G2. Based on everything we know, it's basically the big brother of the N5. It's a beast of a phone. There is a small development community. Most importantly, root, custom recovery, and rom flashing is all there. If it shares some hardware with the N5, hopefully that means fully working AOSP builds aren't to far off. And until then, LG's UI really isn't that bad... I'd certainly take it over Sense any day.

I think it's worse by the fact that I'm on a family plan with Verizon... but I'd honestly buy a Nexus 5 even if I couldn't use one on Verizon. Also, I'm sure it would cost too much to can my line from Verizon (or is it only killing off the whole plan entirely that costs money?). I would sell my Galaxy S4 for the Nexus 5.

LOL, at all the Verizon people in here.

Not sure why people are asking or upset that Verizon won't have the Nexus 5. Not going to happen, they are not going to get it, leave that NAZI fucktard network. Out of the 5 Nexus phones over the years, Verizon only had 1 of them in the Galaxy Nexus, and they even fucked that up, with shitastic battery life compared to the GSM version, and then with updates, delaying them and not keeping up with the other Nexus releases

Unless your company / workplace pays for your phone service on Verizon, I understand staying on them obviously. Otherwise, if you paying out of pocket personally, Verizon is the biggest ripoff known to man. I was on Verizon couple years ago, for two phone we were paying $235 / month  For the unlimited minutes + texts and 4GB shard data. I then moved to Straight Talk ATT when the Nexus 4 came out, my bill for two phones dropped down to $90 / month :) And seriously no difference in service whatsoever, except slower data speeds of course, which I give two sh!ts about, because I am on WiFi at home and at work, and most public places. I don't need 50mb / sec download speeds in the car

And I won't even get started about the evil corporation and NAZI company they are.

Bottom line if you like Nexus phones, they are best designed for pre-paid plans, Google is trying to free people from the 2yr contract handcuffs. Or on T-Mobile

I agree that Verizon is an evil company and a ripoff, but nobody's going to take you seriously with all the Nazi references.

Think of it this way - the people on Verizon who don't do their homework end up getting ripped off and they deserve to be ripped off for not doing their homework. Verizon is not screwing these people over so much as they are screwing themselves over.

But yeah, guys, stop whining about lack of CDMA phones. If you want phones, you need to leave CDMA, period. Google has dropped CDMA support from AOSP, and [Vo]LTE is nowhere NEAR replacing the old standards. It's not really even Verizon's fault... Nobody gives a s*** about CDMA anymore except you Verizon users (and Sprint users are only on it because it's cheap). I'm not anti-CDMA technology-wise, but you're all doing the cell phone equivalent of whining about there being no new HD-DVDs available because the world chose Blu-ray. Well, the world chose GSM. Other companies are not obligated to support your dead standards.

Family plans don't help my case... even though I could try and leave. But the problem is, the only other worthwhile company for coverage in my area is AT&T, but I'm still unsure about AT&T Go and AIO. T-Mobile, while I would love it, we are literally in an area that's like a lake, a 2G/3G area surrounded by very reliable 3G/4G LTE areas. Also, if I visit friends near where I went to college, T-Mobile blows balls. So options aren't as plentiful as some others.

Anyone have any carrier advice for someone in Michigan switching to pick up a N5? Currently have Unlimited Verizon.

I'd start by checking aggregate cell coverage sites like www.sensorly.com in the areas you'll be in. If you're in a really rural area you may be one of the few that does actually need Verizon. Sensorly and other similar sites are far from perfect, but they are still significantly better than the coverage maps from the actual carriers, at least in my experience. You could also ask friends what they have and how their service is. Even stating Michigan doesn't mean much. I live in MA and someone might tell me T-Mo is good here. It's good in Boston, but it's not particularly good otherwise. So the info would still not be useful to me.

If not Verizon, you'll probably find AT&T's network to be the best, and with that you could go on Straight Talk or Aio Wireless (Aio might be lacking on roaming agreements compared to Straight Talk, from info others have given).

Some areas are good for T-Mo and/or Sprint but be advised overall they are both way behind AT&T, and AT&T is somewhat behind Verizon (but still good enough a lot of the time when T-Mo and Sprint are not). Sprint will have even worse selections of phones than Verizon because, again, CDMA, plus different LTE frequencies that nobody cares about.

I'm in a large enough city, Kalamazoo. I just don't know anyone using ATT. All my friends/family have Verizon.

Also, isn't Straight Talk kind of a huge dick when it comes to telling you if you are being throttled?

LOL, at all the Verizon people in here.

Awesome. Thanks for reinforcing the common rule of this forum; most people have been helpful, you are being useless.

I have to have Verizon due to coverage in my area. So I guess I should complain to the municipalities for not bringing in the other carriers or maybe just go for a walk. But telling me I am the problem without considering anybody else's circumstances other than a work contract was a little narrow minded.

They're stating 2.5GB now, though they've only recently switched to stating that, so who knows if they're going to be a better company from now on or if it's just BS. At least it opens them up to false advertising if they continue to disconnect people after 80MB of data.

Still, I don't quite trust them myself, so I was planning to go for Aio.

Not to change the subject, but is there going to be an announcement for this, or is it just going to slip onto the Play store all sneaky-like?

What about the Nexus 10?

It was on the Play store briefly in the past 24h. Many news sites are claiming it was a mistake, but I laugh at that idea - Google wouldn't make that kind of mistake. Do they really think the person who was put in charge of making it available on the play store would have been so poorly chosen that they wouldn't even get the date correct? LOL. It was a teaser.

There will likely be an official announcement. Nexus 4 would have had one if not for Hurricane Sandy.

Now they do offer AT&T SIMs with full 4G LTE (I think?). Or is that speed of that LTE throttled?

That mistake was left on the Play Store for exactly 44 minutes :p Coincidence ? Android 4.4 and 44 minutes :D

I've been wanting to get off of Verizon for quite a while and actually the Nexus4 made me want to jump (as of 2 months ago) but then I read the Nexus 5 was coming out so I waited. Everyone in my neighborhood has Verizon so I can't check network coverage. I so badly want to switch to straight talk and an android phone from my current iPhone4 that runs like shit on iOS7 now.

I've never bought a used phone before so shopping on ebay or craigslist scares the crap out of me and taking a chance that it's good to go.

Checking sensorly.com it shows I shouldn't even have Verizon coverage where I live even though I have 5 bars all throughout my house and area.

Actually, from what I can tell, Straight Talk is maxed out at 2.5GB a month before they throttle you, $45 a month, and has full access to the AT&T LTE network (I think). Sounds like a damn good deal.

I'm in Howell where I get 3G/4G, work in Troy where I get LTE and have family in the UP (Houghton/Hancock area) and get 3G there. Coverage throughout MI on AT&T is very good with LTE pretty readily available in most places. I am on WiFi at home, so the drop in speed at home is a non-issue. I really have no complaints with service on AT&T pretty much anywhere I have been in Michigan.

Work phone is on Verizon and have not had any issues with coverage in various locations throughout Michigan as well and it is somewhat better in the UP.

AT&T LTE does seem faster than Verizon LTE in the areas where I pick it up. Both are plenty fast, but with an edge to AT&T speed-wise.

Pick your poison. Would stay away from Sprint though as a few people I know have scattered coverage.
