Who does AMD think they are?

They are like house republicans who can't scrap together a bill.

I waited WEEKS for more Solid info, I thought the nda was supposed to be over on the 15th, well we're here.

Kyle? Linus? Anand?

Where is the info?

Is this like those superinjunctions in the UK where you are not only given a gag order from a court about a cases details, but a gag order about being under a gag order ?!?

Can no one even say what amd told THEM would be a release date for more info? Not even the info itself, just a heads up on when official info will be released?

What is going on ?

Rumor mill has it that the release date is pushed back. Thing is, AMD hasn't stated a release date from what I know.

The only "release day" that we have ever known was the 15th for the NDA release. This was only mentioned by a single site and somehow we all believed it was true. Apparently it's not. Just chill out and wait. Be patient, it is not the end of the world.

Hardware Canuks posted on Twitter that they just got their review sample today. Assuming other sites got their cards today as well don't expect the NDA to be up for a few days, if not next week.

Read this.. heard this in my head.

It's just a spectical to you? It's just a spectial to you? Do you think this is funny?!?

I have been reading reports of it being delayed due to supply problems. They are having trouble getting cards to reviewers.

What would be truly sad is if they release the card and its no where near the performance rumored. It'd be like, "Yep, it's out and it sucks!" That would really really bad for AMD. Not saying that is the case just saying what if that happened. Hoo boy!

I was kind of bummed when I woke up today expecting a flood of R9-290 and R9-290X reviews, and NOTHING. I thought I had the dates wrong, but it appears I was correct. Really disappointing day to be honest.

I feel for you, bro. That's just brutal. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

#firstworldproblems

I do not think AMD officially press released an official day for this event that everyone is pro-claiming.

As anticipated as I am I guess we have to just continue to play waiting game.

Wow, your life is terrible.

It's quite possible that the government shutdown may have affected the expedition of the shipment through customs.

LOL sarcasm much? Whats wrong with being disappointed on the day that people were looking forward to. Don't be a dick and lump me in bitch mode like the OP, which is a little excessive.

This is the problem with paper launches.

It's not even a paper launch. It simply has not launched in any capacity. A paper launch is when a company says a product launches on X day but retail availability isn't for a week or more after that day. Saying a video card exists is not the same as launching it. If the NDA is up this week and the card isn't out until the end of the month THAT is a paper launch. Just because people got the date wrong doesn't make it a launch.

who cares man, its just a 7970 with extra cores, its same old 7000 series architecture.

you sound like its the next-coming of video cards.

I'm waiting for the aftermath of this release. By Christmas time when new consoles are out and Nvidia and AMD battle each other on price wars, I may be able to get either a Titan, or R9 290X for cheap!!! Here's to wishful thinking!!

AMD Radeon Graphics ‏@AMDRadeon 14h
@Mattinit AMD Radeon™ R9 290 Series is not launching today. We remain on-schedule for an October unveiling, as promised. ^SL

exactly. people don't even know whats a paper launch. AMD has not launched the card yet. NDAs are not up. reviews are not up. but few people have started complaining because they expected the card on a certain date based on rumours. how silly. :D

AMD presented the card with the rest of the R lineup in Hawaii, dunno but having no info at all other than rumors is rather odd isnt it ? especially since thy announced preorders with bf4 premium

I did plan to buy 290x (still running the ole 5870), but this kind of cramp convinced me otherwise, and the card might be relevant for just a couple of months anyway, till maxwell ships

The pre-order thing is new but Nvidia and AMD both do the "Hey this card exists but we're not telling you anything until later" thing all the time. Pre-orders aren't live yet and probably won't be active until after the NDA is up on the specs of the card. It's not AMD's fault if people believed the wrong date.

No one knows when Maxwell is coming out. Though most likely not until sometime next year. That would be more than an "couple months" after the launch of the 290x this month. I wouldn't expect Maxwell until at least the later part of Q1 next year. Cards don't seem to launch in Jan-Feb very often (or at all perhaps?) so March seems like the earliest time. If they want it on 20nm it could be even later depending on what TSMC's yields look like.

I love how everyone is hating on AMD for delaying a product that they never announced a launch date for, yet in the same breath spout Nvidia cool-aid.."But But Maxwell..."

We don't know a THING about Maxwell's performance. .NOTHING. ..Nvidia will not launch Maxwell before 2nd half of 2014..20nm isn't ready for mass yields until JUNE at best..and God help us if Maxwell is a huge core design ala GF100..

kool-aid or not, I have a feeling maxwell like logan is going to be a game changer

Can you hear yourself say this out loud? It is somewhat of a problem about your thought process somehow the words NDA mean something which should magically enlighten you?

All that is known is that BF4 launches before the end of this month and supposedly the R9 290X will launch.

All the info your read about NDA and 15th of October didn't mean anything.

Everyone that keeps hammering the "AMD never said it would be the 15th" is rather amusing as pretty much everyone expected it to be 15th based on the leaked slides. I find it hard to believe that a majority of you didn't wake up Tuesday morning looking for reviews.

I did not. I fully expected to see nothing. There were no hints of anyone having their review samples prior to the 15th. There were enough hints out there for some people to guess it wasn't happening. For those that did, so what? Believing in a rumor does not change that it was not the date.

I'm pretty excited to see the real deal and prices on the vendor websites, but I'm not going to sit here salivating and refreshing my browser for however long it takes for them to be fully released. Plenty of other stuff to do. People saying their day was horrible because the reviews they were hoping to see didn't show up is hilarious.

Before I go any further, I want to clarify that I have been a fan of BOTH Team Red/Green since the first Riva TNT and ATI 9800 Pro era...

What exactly is it that you expect to Logan to do? Have you seen the early results? It is going to end up being a hot, power hogging underperforming chip, just like the rest have been..*IF* Nvidia had launched Logan at the same time~60 days from the SnapDragon 800, then perhaps it would have a chance..Instead QC released a monster SoC on current 28nm process tech and is working on their next jump, while Nvidia isn't even set to have Logan (also 28nm) out for a while, and by the time any products even make it to channel, then it's going to be super dated compared to products that have already been out for months..I just don't see Nvidia pulling off anything major..

Intel has their Atom line ramping up to full steam, and next year's improvements are going to put a hurting on what market share Qualcom/Apple/Samsung do not already have cornered..At pound for pound, I'd place my money on Intel surpassing everyone except Qualcom in the next 12/18 months..

If QC stumbles even once, then Intel may even surpass them..They have SO much advanced Fab capacity, and with them moving Atom up to the bleeding edge process, I think they are going to be a dominant player shortly..

AMD has the best Kool aid at this point in time. Regardless of what bubble you live in be it AMD or Nvidia you have to try the AMD kool aid to appreciate it.

R9 290x is looking like the best Kool aid brew in a long time. I hope to be toasting this brew with all soon.

has ever a VGA launch received this kind of anxiety before? we are talking about a card that will compete in price and performance with an OC 780, from a brand that has never been able to offer good value in multi VGA builds...
No matter how much Titan-esque the 290x turns out, AMD would gain more market share amongst enthusiasts with proper framepacer drivers for CF.

Yes, this happens with every damn new card that comes out. But people are irrational animals and seem to forget the past.
