2560x1440 or 2560x1080

Are you a gambling man? You can get a ShiMian/Catleap 1440p on ebay for about half the price they're showing.

If you're mostly gaming then the wider FOV would be nice for games that support it, for things like photoshop and 3D it's nice to not be vertically challenged.

I don't know but I have to admit I'd love to game on that wide screen just to see what it's like. I have a feeling it would be either love or hate nut they have really piqued my interest. .

I guess if I had to choose, I'd go with the Sammy 27". When in doubt, go with a trusted brand and a conventional resolution.

21:9 is still in its teething phase. A lot of games dont support that res. Just because of that I'd go with the Samsung. 21:9 still need improvement but that's just my own opinion.

Grabbed the 2560x1440. So much money but dam. Havent gamed yet but the real estate on this thing is MASSIVE. Going to have to double my dpi setting lol

exactly. and you can still run games that support 21:9 at 2560x1080 on the 2560x1440 screen with black bars. 21:9 will be worth revisiting in couple years but its not ready now. of course there will be someone to chime in and say all their games work great in 21:9 which of course is total BS. I fooled around with that aspect ratio for a few days and MOST games do not work correctly. some can be modded with Flawless Widescreen but many cannot.

I'd take 1440 or 1600 over bizzarro 21:9 more pixels vertically is better....further just because the aspect is wider doesn't automagically mean you see more, scaling entirely depends on how broken the game's scaling is and how it does FOV.

I say that as an ex 5300x1050 long time Eyefinity user, now happily on 1600p.

I'm going to have to try this out for a few days. Debating on returning right now. My head is killing me. I think I might need 120hz. Got so used to it didnt know there was a difference anymore lol. Even using a 60hz refresh rate on my 120hz felt a lot better than this. I may just be tired and need getting used to the big ass screen. It looks absolutely amazing tho.

First thing to try is adjusting cleartype and font settings in Windows. Monitor hopping can easily leave you with eye-straining font settings that will cause your eyes to cross and give you a headache if you don't adjust for what looks best on the new panel.

I'd sooner blame poor cleartype settings for a headache than 60 vs. 120Hz.

Try lowering the brightness too. I get headaches really quickly if my Catleap Q270 is on 100% brightness, so I keep it around 10% most of the time.

I was only gaming in bf4 for about 2 hours. Wasn't reading or anything like that. Don't think reading would matter as it not moving. Could be the response time driving me nuts. I dunno just seams like a giant mess when in hectic battles. I have to use vsync for some reason to as when running over 60fps it feels jittery. Tested in crysis 3 and bf4 and had same issue. Maybe its just this monitor.

Ran bf3 now as well. Same thing. I honestly think people who haven't used 120hz just don't realize how f ing smooth it is. I know I can't live using vsync I hate it and I can't live with stuttering and its 1 or the other with this monitor. Turned crossfire off and same thing. Return for a 144hz I think. Wish I'd kept my xl2420t. Asus 144hz is on sale tho so I'm not out that much $.

what you don't have a 30" 2560x1600 for free from your ex work where the office closed? i thought everyone had them.

Have you looked into the Korean ebay 1440p monitors? Mine is at 120Hz and it's superb, although there is no guarantee that you will get one that can reach 120Hz most will do 96-110Hz and I think you will still see a benefit at those refresh rates...plus it's only $320 with free shipping.

Good man, I think 1080p isn't enough vertical real estate and limits productivity.

It's possible depending on what you're used to. The other thing is that there is a ton of lumens coming into your retinas now. I recommend turning down the brightness or sitting further back, as many times I see headaches caused by the backlight rather than any effect of the screen.

Problem is if I sit further back I can't read anything. Perhaps a 30" may have been a better option. I can see the brightness hurting my eyes but this vsync or stutter is mainly what is turning me away. I play mainly online multiplayer battlefield, crysis, grid. Its very weird. Even with vsync it feels weird. I honestly think its the loss of 120hz. Maybe I'll go back to a 1080p 120hz till 1440p 120hz become more mainstream. Those Korean monitors will cost me HUGE for shipping and ups will probably smash the shit out of it by time it gets here. I'm in canada.

The Korean monitors from ebay sellers have free worldwide shipping, and they are packaged pretty well so you shoukd be OK.....

I may give this one another shot. Not getting near as bad stuttering today. Not sure what it was. That or now that I've put 4 or 5 hours into it gaming I'm just getting used to it. I'll get a good session in today and decide if I'm returning it.

You went from 120 Hz to 60 Hz? You did it backwards!

Does the monitor have a PWM backlight? If so, that may be your issue: some are reportedly sensitive to that flicker.

I'm wondering if windows glitches out yesterday from loading 1440p for the first time. After a nights sleep and a restart everything seams decently smooth. Not as smooth as 120hz but very much better than last night. Get some screen tearing but that was expected. I'll give it a few nights and decide if I can live with 120hz. Plus the $450 difference after taxes lol.

Is it really that big of a gamble?

Well I returned it n grabbed an asus 144hz. Colors aren't even close to as good, but don't really notice the diff while gaming. Maybe I'll order an overlord tempest closer to Christmas now that I see them on amazon.

For the catleap. Is this the model I'm looking for ? Perfect pixel means no dead pixel I'm assuming.

Nice to see you came back to "the club" :)
I do think you hit the nail on the head saying most people really don't know the difference high refresh makes. Everyone at one point or another has upgraded to a higher resolution panel. 1440p is simply another bump. A great one considering the prices that can be found but most gamers I've spoken to think 120hz panels are just a gimmick and don't see any value in it.
Overlord is good but their prices are rather high. I'm not even sure they truly guarantee 120hz on even their best panels.
If you do pick one up post it here please! That is the only display upgrade I will ever consider.

Could you tell me what setting you use for color ? I've got it pretty good by going off a review I found, but not the greatest. Hopefully someone gives me a link to the proper catleap monitor. The cheapest perfect pixel version I found (the one I linked above) says the seller is away until November 4th. Might just say fuckit and order it. My CPU bottlenecks so bad in bf3 and bf4 that I get basically exactly the same frame rate at 1440p as I do at 1080p. Was surprised how well these cards ripped threw 1440p.

Try this thread, http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1730425. I got my ICC profiles there. I got one for AMD & Nvidia cards as I have both. Or you can do it manually, theres a lot of good info in there.
NCX and Mark Rejhon both frequent the Display sub often so maybe you could ask one of them which Catleap/Korean 1440 is best. I assume you'd want one that overclocks, I'm sure that question has been asked a lot so have a look around.
Your cpu is just about running ragged at 4.7 so if you really want lots more fps in BF3/4 (don't we all) imo look into X79 & a hex core... I hope that helps!

Not from my experience. Two glass Crossover 27q's and no dead pixels, contrast issues or colour issues. Nearly a year worth of use so far.

Just wondering, do you overclock yours? If so by how much.
I've heard of some that overclocked their Korean panels and after 3-6 months they died. I would still Oc mine but it'd be nice to know before getting one if I should expect it to last at all.

No, sorry. I'm cool with 60hz and good image quality.
I used to own a Samsung S27A950D and I have no regrets making the switch.

Also I'm pretty sure that Crossovers don't really natively overclock like Catleaps or Overlords.
Props to people who do have successful overclocks though.

I have a weird issue now. If I set 144hz on desktop and launch bf3 or bf4 I get red screen and hard lock and system restarts. If I set 120hz game launches fine and the option for 144hz is available in game. But if I click apply same thing happens. If I set 120hz on desktop and in game I'm good to go. Does AMD not support 144hz or something ??? Not really complaining because the colour on this monitor is a lot better at 120hz and I'm sure I wouldn't notice a difference anyways. But, I'd like to know.

I'd go 2560x1440 personally (And I just did.)

The lack of FOV support for ultrawide being a big factor, but also, I don't have the desk space for that nonsense bahaha
