Free CIV5 or Mafia 2 - GMG

Is this expected to come back at some point? Also Civ 5 or Mafia II... hrm... suggestions?

Both are good. Most people seem to be iffy about Mafia II but I loved it. It's one of my favorite sandbox games, I enjoyed it significantly more than GTA IV. It is short though, especially for a sandbox game. Expect to get somewhere around 10-15 hours out of it.

Civ 5 is really great also though, if you like that style of game. I've logged about 70 hours in it (vs. 12 with Mafia II). So there is the potential to get a lot more out of it, but only if you enjoy RTS games.
 
I was waiting all night for them to fix it, but I guess the free games are very enticing for PC gamers. Looks like I'll be waiting to vote after work if its fully operational again.
 
It's so slow. I almost got through in mobile earlier but it error'ed out when submitting my votes!

I was able to get into the main site about 30 mins ago, but as you said it was VERY slow and was erroring out left and right. A bit of persistence and I'm all done though. Now I just need to wait for the votes to go through (supposedly up to 24 hours), and I'll be the happy new owner of Civ 5.

Nothing like setting up a system that can't handle the load. Either they don't understand the concept or they don't care. They had to know a million people were going to jump on this.
 
The problem is the voting process is so slow. You have to click like 3 times to actually vote for each thing, and load 3 different pages. Totally unnecessary.

EDIT: Awesome, I got to the last category and now the server is crashing or some nonsense. :mad:

Oh, and now I get to the final step to get the game on GMG and apparently there's another error.

*flips the fucking table*

Every time I try to click through the last section, I get:

"It seems there was a problem.

Can you please try to register your details again, as we encountered a glitch in the matrix."

I've tried about 10 times now, does not fucking work.
 
Says claim free game and then tells me there was an error. Already voted.

Same as the rest.

I got through to the 'Thank you for voting' screen and was able to select my game without issues.

After clicking the link in email, I did get the "Looks like you haven’t voted yet." If you click the link to vote though, it does show you had voted.
 
I get this after voting for all of them:

Finally went through. Now it takes me to Green Man Gaming, and asks me for my log in. When I do that I get sent an email, which tells me I have not voted yet.

So what are we actually supposed to do and have? I've had a GMG account for years, and I just made one for CVG as it would not let me to submit the survey without an account.

Very confusing and the lack of directions doesn't help.

This is also a reason why I never buy from GMG. Their policies, information, and websites are terrible. If I don't get a game I will assume it is a scam and ensure I will never spend a dime there.

Then why is it telling us we have not voted yet and must go and vote? Which tend sends you back to GMG, with the email telling you that you have not voted, and to go vote, which tells you that you have voted, but must go back to GMG to verify it, which sends an email, which takes you back to GMG, telling you that you haven't voted?

Talk about garbage wording. Their bait and switch tactics plus their never ending server issues make me believe they are not of strong character...
 
finally got the stupid website working, now they're both giving me circular logic, (you registered, you need to vote, you already have an account, you need to vote.....) etc...

i guess no free game for me!

We can read...There is more than one fly in the ointment. What you posted above was the confirmation email. I actually understood that one. The rest are random server errors.
 
I doubt they ran out. Before I got the vote screen I was clicking around and it said "Take it easy, champ. We've saved your place in line" or something like that.
 
GMG only acknowledges that you did, indeed, register with them. When you click the link they give you in the email for your games, it checks to see if you have voted. If you don't wait for the votes to get to GMG, as I highlighted for you, you get no game :p

Don't get me wrong, it's set up pretty badly... But it's free. I see no bait and switch that you're talking about... The fault is with CVG not getting the data to GMG quickly enough, simple as that.

TypeO, I'm talking specifically about the people complaining about the error I linked :p All the random server errors, I have no idea.. They make it a pain to get it done though. Took me like 45 mins or something like that to get my votes in.

After going through the whole rigaroll of voting and registering, the email sent by GMG stating that you have not voted yet kept making Outlook 2013 crash. I give up. You can keep Mafia War
 
This whole situation is ridiculous. They make it so convoluted that it's barely worth doing, but in the end both companies got your info via having to sign up for shit. Then in the end it doesn't even work.

I liked GMG in the past but this is absurd.

Guess we'll wait and see. Though considering they send you emails telling you that you need to re-vote in order to quality for the free game, it is still up in the air as far as I am concerned.

If anyone gets anything I'll be surprised. GMG seems to be a garbage service, as their promotions almost never work, their servers almost never work, and it seems like they reject payments for lots of people.

No, because it errors out before I even get any sort of confirmation that they are sending me a key. And of course this is on the very last step after I did all the other nonsense like signing up for CVG.

I never actually got an email of any kind, either.
