Here's a few for the record books. Grand Theft Auto V holds the record for:

  • 1. Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours
  • 2. Best-selling videogame in 24 hours
  • 3. Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
  • 4. Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion
  • 5. Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours
  • 6. Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
  • 7. Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame

Grand Theft Auto 5 celebrated with headline stating 6 records broken over a story listing 7 actual records.

Spooky.

But remember...video games are just children's toys, and hence the content must be judged by the standard of being made for 6-year-olds. OMG VIOLENCE AND TITTIES!

Those are actual records?

8. But still takes too long to fix bugs that should've been addressed before release..

Those are actual records?
Not sure if they are. I would like to know how many copies they actually SOLD in the first 24 hours. Where as they count all the pre-sales as zero hour sales on the first day.

ya just imagine what it could have done for the PC industry if it came out on PC's first!. Reason why Consoles have ruined PC sales

GTA is considered an action-adventure game? What adventure? Raping a hooker?

THIS is an action-adventure game.

Yeah. There's no real definable variable as to how good/large the adventure component has to be for a game to gain the adventure classification. As long as there's a quest or two, some dialog, and some puzzle solving - you've got yourself an adventure. :)

That is action-adventure-fantasy, GTA is just action-adventure. If I had to summarize it: It is a story of 3 men who are dealing with their own issues but come together to pull off the greatest heist ever in the city of Los Santos.

A lot of those are unfair. It's much easier for a videogame to make 1bn than a movie or a book.

highest revenue by an entertainment product. At $60 a piece of course.

If you multiplied units sold by the average movie theater ticket, it would not hold that record.

And if GTA V was < $15 a lot more people would have bought it. Not a single person would go to a movie for $60.

I wonder what those people who say the game is gonna desensitize your kids are thinking... "Ah! The whole world is full of bad parents! Since we lost this round, lets try to do other stupid stuff to SAVE THE KIDS!"

Surprise! People will pay more entertainment dollars for more entertainment!

Personally, I consider movie ticket prices way too expensive and so I end up seeing at most 2-3 movies in theaters per year. The prices being charged for 90-120 minutes of entertainment are crazy to me.

On the other hand, $60 for 20+ hours of entertainment (20 hours represents about the minimum I get out of a good game) is very reasonable.
