Choosing a sound card, positional ques

So there's a lot of mixed information and I thought I cut straight to the point: Creative cards, eg z, zx, zxr, or asus cards, being the dgx, dsx, and stx.

I'm only out for the cards that produces top quality positional audio, but then there's brands, generation leaps, and software to consider: eg dolby headphone, creative's CMSS-3D, DTS Connect (for example, the asus hero supremefx onboard audio), SBX Pro Studio, Scout Mode (z/zx/zxr).

I'm caught on this one because most of the information I've gone through is subjective. I'm looking for more specific information to assign priority to these softwares so I can choose a sound card. I'll be using a pair of AD 700/700x.

Please feel free to correct me if my post has misinformation, but most importantly let me know what your input is on the softwares that ultimately makes or breaks choosing a card.

Thanks!

Creative Z = best positional audio.

Combined with AD 700's will be brilliant.

I see the Z first impression, missed that review. I'll go through the thread soon here.

Is there any benefit to the Zx or ZxR as opposed to the Z?

No advantage to Zx, its the exact same as the Z but with an external module to plug in a headphone.

And if you are only gaming there is no advantage to getting the Zxr.

Creative Z or Zx is what you want. Nothing else is close for gaming atm.

I see. Is there a significant difference between the AD700 and the AD700x?

Is there a specific reason? eg more or less bass, higher mid-low tones?

I see that the AD700, AD700x, and AD900x are all viable options.

Any input on the benefit between them?

AD900x is the improved version of the AD700. Either will do great bc they have a huge, airy aka realistic-ish sound to them. They are considered the best headphones for positional audio under $100 and $200 respectively.

No Asus sound cards.

Get the Creative Z or Zx and you can also add an external amp if you want a bit smoother sound.

Is there any considerable comparisons between them?

I know that the AD700's are reliable, but the purple really is not aesthetically pleasing. I may very well go with that pair however, but I'll read up a bit more for the time being. Thanks for your input!

Thoughts on the AKG Q701 headset?

After reading the Z review thread, I sealed the deal and purchased a Creative Z! Thanks :)

Q701 is a very popular headphone. Major criticisms against it are that it can be uncomfortable depending on your particular noggin because of the ribbed band.

For competitive gaming, soundstage titans are the AD700's (and successors) and HD598's.

Yeah the 701 as well as the 601 are among the best dynamic headphones for gaming. They have a huge sound stage. Probably the biggest of all headphones save some much more expensive and rare ones like the K1000. They have more detail than most too. I found them to be a bit too exaggerated or almost fake sounding bc the sound stage was so huge. I wish there was a headphone that sounded bw the Senn 558/598 and the 701s bc it would be spot on.

Thanks guys, after some long research, consideration, and valued input from hardforum veterans, my final build will be an AD700x paired with the Creative Z sound card for optimal fps gaming balance.

Cheers!
