The new GeForce 331.40 beta driver is now available to download. An essential update for all GeForce GTX users jumping into the Battlefield 4 beta, 331.40 beta ensures maximum performance and system stability in the shooter’s eagerly anticipated pre-release test.

331.40 beta also includes a major update to our NVIDIA Control Panel Ambient Occlusion feature, which allows you to apply fidelity-enhancing, realistic shading and shadowing to games that do not natively support Ambient Occlusion. With a few simple clicks, you can greatly increase the image quality of your favorite games, and now, with 331.40 beta, the quality of the Ambient Occlusion shading will be significantly higher thanks to the introduction of HBAO+.

Rounding out 331.40 beta is a whole host of profile updates, adding new SLI profiles, updating existing SLI profiles, adding new Ambient Occlusion profiles, and updating other profile elements for optimum game experiences:

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag – Updated Profile
Batman: Arkham Origins – Updated SLI Profile
Battlefield 3 – Updated Surround Profile
Battlefield 4 – Updated Surround Profile, Added SLI Profile
Crisis – Added SLI Profile
Crysis 3 – Added AO Profile
Dirty Bomb – Added DX9 SLI Profile
Dying Light – Added DX11 SLI Profile
F1 2013 – Updated SLI Profile
FIFA 14 – Added SLI Profile, Added AO Profile
Natural Selection 2 – Added DX11 SLI Profile

Seems like they're doing some future-proofing with a few of those games. Games like Watch Dogs, AC4, and Batman aren't due for at least 3-4 weeks. Is that normal?

Will be installing to find out how my gtx590 behaves. I'm guessing it will be fine but I definitely appreciate the great driver support from nvidia

You're darn right it better be normal, I don't want to install a new game and not have SLI/CrossFire support on day 1 of the game being released. I also don't want to waste days of gaming when released on un-optimized performance. I want that support, those optimizations, to be in the driver before the game is released, so that I know when I install it when its released I get the best experience possible that very moment.

I can't accept less.

Nvidia and Ubi have a development partner ship so they have access to all of those games in alpha and beta, same goes for WB Games I believe. Lets them make sure the drivers are ready to go come launch day.

NVIDIA typically supports SLI for most titles prior to release. There are usually some optimizations after release as well. Only a few titles in recent memory (notably Tomb Raider) had serious issues on NVIDIA hardware, and those were titles optimized for AMD.

Yes, it's normal. Nvidia tends to have SLI profiles and game optimizations ready before their launches or day 1 if not. While there have been a handful of recent exceptions that were higher-profile like Tomb Raider, it's not the norm like it is with AMD's CrossFire, where most profiles are weeks-to-months late.

These drivers work flawlessly for me so far in a few hours of gaming. Also have heard that there are already proper profiles for an upcoming Elder Scrolls title, but I haven't gotten a dual-card setup to try with it yet ;).

The updates to Ambient Occlusion are nice, works pretty well in Skyrim (much more natural).

Where are these new AO settings? I do not see anything different my NVCP

I haven't messed with SLI, so I guess I just never noticed. Still, it seems like with most major releases Nvidia releases a new day-before-release driver we'd be using instead of these month old ones anyway.
I've gotten used to unlocking a new game on Steam and DL'ing a new driver for that game at the same time.

Updated to this beta driver and can't load into the game anymore. was running 313 before.

Did you try rebooting? One time after a driver upgrade, all 3D was dead until I rebooted. 331.40 working fine here so far.

Rebooted every time after new installation.

I found 320 to be the smoothest by far.

Switched from a Titan to SLI 780's, no change in framerate on BF4. Disable one 780 and it's still the same framerate. Swings drastically from as low as 30 up to 125 FPS. All over the place :/ So i'm imagining the BF4 Optimizations will hopefully include a decent sli profile come launch time.

From what I have seen this driver only helps BF4 in Win8. So if you are playing BF4 on windows 7, don't use this driver. I know 320.49 works. I have not tried any of the other ones in between.

Anyone else with a GTX480 confirm that the GPU never leaves 3D Performance clocks? I'm alittle sick of my card being stuck a 750mhz all the time.

Check if your Power Mgmt Mode is set to "Adaptive" or "Max Performance."
It should be downclocking on Adaptive.

My 780 is locked at 3d clocks too. Actually came in here to see if anybody else had the same problem. I will try reinstalling

edit... reinstall did the trick

In Adaptive.

Dual screens?

Yes, but it used to go down to 51mhz at idle. Now it doesn't even go down to the 2D Clocks of 405mhz. It's just jammed at 750mhz at all times now.

I guess I need to wipe them and reinstall according to Lava.

Hmmm, perhaps this is my problem. Bf4 will either not start at all with SLI enabled or give me some sort of directx error (that includes telling me I need more than 512MB of VRAM) after a couple minutes with SLI disabled. 780s 331.40 Beta. Perhaps I should roll back.

Uninstall the driver in Safe Mode, use a driver cleaner if you will, and then reboot and reinstall drivers. Don't give up till you've beat the hell out of it first!
