I told a friend of mine about this forum but he is a laptop lover only.
Do you guys ever recommend gaming laptops, and if so, what brand would you recommend for a $2000 budget ?

You'll gain better answers by asking a Mod move this thread over to Mobile Computing.

Take a look at the sager/clevo line of laptops. If you are looking for a 15" look at the Sager NP8265 (Built on Clevo P150SM) or for a 17" Sager NP8275 (Built on Clevo P170SM). They are both relatively clean looking laptops with superb cooling.

Do you need a laptop? Would it give you better versatility?

If so as above the sagers are great, there is also the Asus G750JX (the JH with 780m may be too expensive) series if you need it quiet and the MSI barebone series is also good.

You should clarify what your friend's priorities and needs are e.g. GPU power, screen, CPU, portability.

I'll add another vote for the Sager/Clevo P150SM or P170SM with a 780m. They aren't the slickest-looking laptops, but the price/performance is great and cooling is superb.

The Asus G750JX is really nice, but only comes with a 765m or 770m in you price range, and the top-end model with the 780m (the card you likely want to get) is laughably overpriced at its default spec.

The asus 780M model does come with better heatsinks (a slightly larger casing as a result) and larger wattage PSU to back the 780M up though.

Sets you up well for some ocing.

If portability and battery life aren't a concern, go with a Clevo/Sager. Best bang for buck IMO.

razer blade 14"...

portability meets power

Yeah, too bad Power needs Cooling and oops, Portability forgot about Cooling back in the early design stages of the Blade when they were shaving off inches and weight.

What you end up with is portability meets power throttling.

The brand and laptop recommended changes depending on the size the OP is interested in. So state how big you want it.

Proof? Anand reviewed the 14" and while it came close, it never hit throttle temps. It does need fresh/cool air to run, so no gaming in bed, but aside from that, it's pretty much the one of the best laptops you can buy right now.

why hasnt anyone reccomended a lenovo y400/y500? seems to be best performance for size/price. They are amazing.

I actually own this machine and have never had that problem.
