Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Fact is the game is tiny not much to do and in less than a month it's a total bore and completed. It is even worse than when everquest 2 came out; and now everquest 2 makes this game look like a sick joke. Maybe if it's even around in another 3 years I might try it out again. As of right now game is ( FAILURE )

Well, no point in playing if you aren't having fun. Bye.

By the way, how long did it take your group to finish BC? I hear it can be a pain.

Damn, you've gotten every relic, completed every achievement, done every quest, leveled all jobs to 50, experienced every dungeon, made friends, started up a guild, collected every pet and mount, and crafted every item already?

Guess you're ready for the major patch coming out next month which includes more stuff. The rest of us plebians will have to make do!

I haven't done AK yet. Is it a good idea to sleep mobs there, or just aoe them down? It's seemed pretty pointless to sleep while doing CM runs. I'm wondering if AK is different. I've gotten to where I only Sleep if things start getting out of control, but maybe I should go back to doing it on the pull?

AK is a 4 man dungeon, unlike Castrum which was 8, so it's much closer to what you're use to. Sleeping helps, just watch out because the gargoyle like mobs cannot be slept (except the ones that spawn from that statues).
For DPS it's a good idea to get a level 55+ weapon prior to AK since the 3 bosses there have DPS checks - ie if the group is not doing enough damamge the group will fail to advance.

Interesting... IIRC EQ2 had, what, 2 or 3 raid mobs (not even dungeons, single mobs to kill) on release? Yeah I was there. I remember the giant undead guy in Commonlands tower who spawned tons of adds.

Comparing FFXIV ARR to EQ2:
-EQ2 had more landmass at release, but think about how much wasted space there was. Antonica, Enchanted Lands, Nektulos Forest (talk about invis walls and tons of unpassable hills), and Thundering Stepps had tons of space with nothing filling it.
--All modern MMORPGs lose to Everquest's (the original) land mass, so EQ2 failed on this point as well
-FFXIV has more end game content than EQ2 had at release with more to come within the next month.
--FFXIV has 5 end game dungeons and 3 single mobs as opposed to EQ2's 2 or 3 end game single mobs
--FFXIV has 4 sets of end game gear for each job as opposed to a few items here and there.

FFXIV really shines when it comes to customization and alts.
-Customization because as you advance combat, crafting, and harvesting jobs you can share certain abilites between classes instead of EQ2's static set of abilites (yes EQ2 does have the points that you can use to buy other abilties but there's really only one or two viable paths for each class)
-Alts: i.e. There are none in FFXIV. One character to rule them all. So much better than having 8 alts with 8 sets of inventory to manage.

From the sound of your post I doubt you've been to the Sunken Temple of Qarn (or if you have you didn't get past the first boss) and have not gotten through AK. FFXIV has a wealth of content that can be done over and over without it getting stale. I've run Brayflox about 30 times now and it was a completly new experience when I ran it the first time as a CNJ - first class to 50 was GLD/PLD. Qarn was a blast too.
Small anecdote: An fc member (he was a WAR) and I (CNJ) ran Qarn with 2 pug DPS last night. They were both there for the first time so we explained the fights. First boss went down after 1 wipe due to bees. Second boss went down after 1 wipe - only me and fc member were alive to kill him off. Third boss went down after 1 wipe again only me and fc member left to kill off the last 5%. My heart was pounding after that run I tell you that. So exciting!

Finally beat hydra with a mostly FC group. We laid everything out and fixed mistakes between wipes. The time we beat it it seemed so easy lol. Downed ifrit quick after that so now I'm up to Garuda hard mode for my relic quest which I will hopefully get tomorrow. I have 4 Darklight jewels but no gear. Will that be a problem for Garuda HM?

i love this game simply because of the community. Being able to do Ifrit, Garuda HM with duty finder is a godsend for any MMO. Titan HM pugs are also doable. Few people leave after a couple of wipes, instead they talk about what went wrong and try to fix it. So far I'm loving the game.

I'm not impressed with the servers at the moment. Long reserve times and high delay can be game ruiners for tons of inpatient people.

No, most of garuda is simply about positioning. As long as you're not getting hit by avoidable damage (slipstream from both Garuda and the red add are the killers), gear isnt manditory. It may stress out healers if they're also undergeared, but as a bard I sing often when I see healers drop below 50%

A lot of people for whatever reason tend to panic under 20% and forget mechanics. Exactly nothing changes. You still have to kill Green Add before Red Add, and Satin plumes, and move correctly through tornadoes.

hmm i just saw this game watched some videos, im interested to maybe give it a go on the PC.

any thoughts? class recomandations? so forth?

Just pick a class and get to it! If you don't like it after 5-10 levels, switch. Shouldn't take ya more than half an hour to get to the level 5 mark. You have to level your first class to 10 before you can switch, so make sure you select a class you can stand for an hour or two. Really, you won't get a feel for the game until about that point anyway. The battle system is much slower than most MMOs, so if you're used to WoW's level of adrenaline, you may be disappointed. Don't forget to look around. The world is beautiful.

is the combat exciting? or interesting? I mean im use to all MMO combat which i enjoy.

Combat is slow at first (which should be fine with you, since that's the norm in the genre), but really picks up as you get into the 30's, especially if you play a melee DPS class (Lancer, Pugilist).

The pace of the combat actually makes the endgame much more interesting, in my opinion. Instead of just knowing not to stand in the fire, or tank swap, you have to remember dozens of different possible gotchas for each of the 4-5 phases the bosses have. While leveling, though, you really just spam 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 like any other MMO.

well i bought it last night didnt get to play long, only like maybe level 3 or 4. Its kinda starting out extremely slow was almost to the point of being bored, so many running around and How To Quests im like really, they made this beginning for like a moron to teach them every little thing, How to do an EMOTE? really? Having no Voice overs makes me feel like im a deaf person, watching peoples mouth with no sounds........ hate that, the cut scenes are annoying , i try to skip half the time it doesnt let me.

I only got two abilities right now, throwing rocks and some heal. = \ i'm going to give a bit longer of course, hopefully i didnt choose a dumb class, Conjonurer? is it a healer or some shiz? I might have to switch into archer eventually or something i dont kow.. ill give a bit longer to get out of Noob World. its pretty lookin however.

Yes it is a healer. The cut scenes are amazing and a great part of this game, probably its strong point. A lot of the main story stuff does have voice overs.

will i have problems trying to solo content as the healer ? or they have dps stuff too? or i guess i have to multi-class?

i love this game. Just got 2 AF+1 pld peices and got some aggalaon(sp?) ilvl 90 gear from BC. Having a blast. Leveling arcanist to go scholar. I cant get enough

You will be okay. You will get cross class skills and other DPS moves. Towards the later content it moves into group dynamics moreso than solo.

are conjurer's any cool or lame sauce?
A CNJ turns into a white mage at level 30. They are healers. That's pretty much their only role. If you don't want to heal, I wouldn't recommend it. If you do, they're a damned good healer. If you're more interested in soloing, their DPS abilities are decent - At least up to level 30, where I stopped. They don't do damage quite as quickly as other classes, but have a lot more survivability.

You can do every bit of solo content just fine as CNJ/WHM, it just takes longer than as a pure DPS class (but not by a huge amount).

Yeah, it's not like WoW of old where a healer kills mobs at 1/4 the speed of a DPS. As a CNJ, it will typically take you 1-2 extra casts to kill a mob vs. a THM (Which is the black mage)

do i have to remake the dude? or can i just get to a certain level and do archer? or what? ;/ what combos well with the conjurer?

Your character can be all of the classes and jobs you want to be. You aren't tied to 1 like some other mmo's. Pick a class, level it a bit, and if you don't like it, pick another class. Just try to find one you enjoy playing.

Once you hit level 10 and have completed your starting class' third guild quest (which becomes at level 10 after completing the first 2 class quests), you can then register at the other classes' guilds and change your class. Since you started as a Conjurer, you can switch to either Archer or Lancer as their guilds are also in Gridania. Or if you want to start crafting, you can try Carpenter and Leatherworker, or Botanist if you fancy leveling a gathering class.

Got through Garuda HM first try with FC tonight. A little later I got invited to a titan HM run that we also got (no thanks to me lol). Handed all the stuff to the relic dude and realized I forgot the oil lol. Spent all my Philo tomes on jewels so I only have 300 or 400. Gotta do some runs. Will hopefully get it tomorrow.

You don't even understand how lucky you are not to have dealt with trying to do Titan in PUGs. It really makes you realize how many bad players there are out there. The fight isn't even remotely difficult in terms of mechanics, but the average person just can't seem to get it right. I had to spend many a night hopelessly wiping before I got lucky and got a competent group together and finally killed it.

On the plus side, people being bad at Titan has made me a few hundred-thousand gil at this point lol.

i give up, this game isn't for me. Its so slow, boring, cant stand the music. its just very dull and unoriginal. litterally had to keep trying to force myself to play and im like why em i even bothering. I wasted $30 but owell could be worse.. thanks guys for the help, glad you guys enjoy it.

No problem man. The GCD in the game is really long and makes the game feel dull. I end up spamming the same key repeatedly in frustration. I love the music though. Main reason I login from time to time. :)

Agreed on both parts. GCD needs to be fixed because stuns with the latency can other times cause mis-timings where it was clearly in time on your screen but not with the server.

The music is boss. They have different music for everything in this game: individual bosses/trials, dungeon encounters, levels, zones, etc, etc. Some of the best game music I've heard in a while.

GCD is fine really. It will be reduced my stats much more in the future when the level cap is increased. Reducing it now will just make them have to increase it later on, they don't want everything to be so spammy.

I like the GCD, it makes you make decisions instead of making it all just easy mode.

I can't imagine setting the GCD to WoW's speed, especially with the latency issues S-E's having.

Has anyone done any endgame gathering? I'm curious as to how some of these mining nodes work. I see that they spawn at 1AM or so, and always during the gorram work week when I'd be unable to mine them. Do they stick around until the server reset, or are they only available for a short period of time? Is it only a few nodes that's open to everyone, so that you need to compete for it, or does everyone have their own personal node they can mine? Once you mine it, does it respawn like a regular node would, or is it gone until next week?

1. it's based on ingame time so it spawns every 70min
2. they stay up for about 3hrs in game time
3. everyone gets their personal node and only 1 spawns
4. you get 1 spawn per set time no respawn

Thanks! Let me see if I understand correctly.

The node will spawn every 70 minutes. The 1AM thing was refering to Eorzea time, NOT to real-world time. If I'm not even in the zone when it spawns, I can log in an hour later, and it will still be there. Only a single node will spawn every 70 minutes. So you'll get (for example) 4 chances to pull a piece of ore out every 70 minutes if you're farming this... Right?

I'm only a level 35 miner, so I'm not quite ready for endgame mining yet, but I want to make sure I'm understanding it all so when I hit 50, I'm not wasting half a million gil worth of respawns!

I agree, I've always loved the music they put in the final Fantasy series and this is no exception. It was a very pleasant surprise when I popped in for my first primal fight. Had to stand there a minute and take it all in lol.

its 3hrs in game so roughly 9min each node will stay up for
and each node has 6 chances but there's little more to it
you will see once you get to 50

How is the population? Made a character on Zalara. Don't wanna push to 50 and find out the re-release was a fluke.

I'm not gonna lie, servers are pretty packed. They're going to add more world and instance servers mid October. I'm on a less populated server, Siren, and there's always a 5-10 person queue time to enter. I can't imagine how it is on more popular servers like Behemoth or Ultos.

Hyperion, one of the legacy servers, typically has a 5-10 person queue to get in (10-20 seconds). There's no shortage of people at all levels. I actually complain about how many people are in certain zones, because there's so many that FATE mobs die before you can do enough damage to get a claim in. I wouldn't call it a fluke.
