WD®, a Western Digital company and a world leader in storage solutions for the connected life, today introduced its new My Cloud™ family of personal cloud solutions. WD’s My Cloud is a complete solution for users to organize, centralize and secure the digital content from all of their computers and mobile devices and access those files from any device, from anywhere in the world. By simply connecting a My Cloud personal cloud drive to the Internet, consumers get the anywhere, any-device access they can get from the public cloud, without having to pay monthly fees or giving up control of their personal data.

does a person really need to risk security and privacy by using the cloud vs a person's own desktop?

The NSA will love hacking into this thing

Hack? I doubt they'd need to do such a thing when all they need to do is threaten to arrest everyone that works for the company if they don't play along.

Sadly I'm not even joking :/

Synology has had this for ages.

well i don't know what kind of personal data you guys have that requires that much space i mean everyone's uploading their photos and videos on facebook/youtube now days which i thing would be the biggest space guzzler, other than that my financial stuffs/tax stuff and other important docs are on my thumb drive 256mb if i might add and it's not even 10% full

Since the revelations concerning the NSA, no one in their right mind would use a cloud service.

What? At this point I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the NSA was the driving push behind "The Cloud". It's a lot easier to sift through everyone's data when they freely submit it to you.

Setting all of the naysayers aside, this is a really good option for those who need to use cloud storage, but need more space than any of them provide. Personally, I would use something like this for photos (full resolution) and my ripped music library (flac). 250 full resolution photos takes up nearly 1.8 GB in my drop box account and there are not many places online you can take 18MP images and store them online for free.
