Wait, isn't this the same guy that, back when he worked for Sony, went on and on about how the PS3 was going to "win" because of its superior hardware? Honestly, I think the whole debate is silly but Microsoft could have picked a better messenger than Harrison.

“Every platform I’ve ever been involved in somebody has said ‘oh, this has got more gigaflops or more teraflops than the other one,’ and at the end of the day it never really matters,” former PlayStation boss Phil Harrison told Edge. “It’s all about having the best games and having the most impressive experiences, and clearly Xbox One has the best games.

If you had to pick only one console I don't see how you could objectively look at the PS3 and Xbox 360 and say the Xbox has better games. The only notable exclusives that stick out in my mind are the Gears of War series, Forza and Halo. I'd much rather play The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, Uncharted series, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, etc.

It's definitely too early to call that for the next gen consoles. So basically I think this guy is full of shit.

That's actually very true. Most console owners don't even understand what the specs mean. I had a guy tell me once that since the Gamecube disks were smaller, they held twice the data that a DVD could.

The platform exclusives, service and software matter the most to the average person.

It's hilarious that the PS3 last time had "more processing power" was more expensive, the cell processor was going to be this and that etc. etc. etc.. ....a lot of good that did. Globally the PS3 is neck in neck with the 360 and the "weaker" Xbox 360 has been the best selling console in the US for the last three years. The Wii had NO horsepower and kicked both of their asses for the first few years.

Here we are again, same lame arguments, same situation...without a console or game hitting the market for months. :D

Xbox 360 owners are buying Xbox Ones, PS3 owners are buying PS4s. People that own both will have both again. It's that simple. PC gamers could care less.

Your making an assumption based on your opinions. Id rather play Gears of War than The Last of Us because the shooting mechanics are better. Id rather play Halo than uncharted because frankly uncharted is buggy and severely over rated. Even with uncharted id rather play tomb raider because its less buggy and does every gameplay mechanic just as well as Uncharted.

Not everything is about exclusive titles, Skyrim had a better experience on the 360 because the ps3 version played like ballsack. Online play on XBox Live always had a HUGE leap. It is about overall experience capabilities, not exclusive titles.

Id much rather buy fifa 14 for the XBox one due to the exclusives legends content. Im so sick of these fanboy battles because theyre just that, idiotic with no real substance

Its Moore's Law yo! They get smaller, they do more :D

The graphics cards are the bloody same, still using mechanical hard drives, it's not about who has the most games anymore, it's about reliability, and user restrictions (or lack of them with the PS4), since Microsoft showed us what they had planned for end users, did a 180, and are now showing cloud based gaming (which I think is the wrong direction personally, since not everyone has a connection above 3Mbps, and they can shut the service down whenever they feel like it, and you lose the game you never physically owned).

The sad part is he won the debate because nobody believed me. This is the only reason smart phones and wikipedia were invented; to disprove the "facts" that the untechnical and uneducated spew.

how is this different from steam or any other online distribution system?

You can play Steam games offline. It's also not using any sort of cloud based computing.

The substance of what you were saying, is still true. When i buy something from steam the installation of the game itself is dependent on their distribution system. I cant buy a new PC, and just install it i have to go online to retrieve the DRM license to even be able to install it

That's not objective at all. And let's not forget that Sony exclusives aren't really games.

I honestly think consoles are for people without any skills who just want to be "entertained". You can't really play something that plays itself and does not let you do your own thing.

What im trying to get at, is this whole if microsoft shuts down the service, is still true for systems like steam. But steam has provisions for what happens if they shut down, Cloud is a completely different beast where those provisions cant exist. But that does not make it an inferior stupid pointless idea, it just means its dependent on its nature, which is always going to be true

Eventually digital distribution or cloud services will be the only one available ... it is the best for the content owners (the developers and publishers) ... all we can do is fight for features that at least make it more user friendly but it will come one way or the other ... physical media distribution has probably seen its last console generation

The difference is this time the PS4 is cheaper.

You can still buy physical copies of most games, but I'm concerned they are going to push for cloud based only, so in the end we have no control over what we can and cannot play, depending on if the service provider continues access to the game or the service in general (STEAM has not taken down a single game since it launched, which is more than I can say for Origin/EA, and their annual list of game service cancellations).

I really think that Microsoft needs to jump to the top of the hyperbole wars and just hire Krazy Kenny from Sony. That guy knew how to keep people entertained.

Aside from Forza, which is probably the best console racing game, I really don't think Gears of War or Halo are exceptional titles compared to say, Battlefield or COD (for multiplayer, I can't comment on Halo's single player but I don't play FPS for single player). Which is what I was basing my opinion on.

Yep, Xbox used a lot cheaper parts in their initial release... but didn't last the test of time. Only through OS upgrades could you extend your xbox 360. It was also a joke when HDDVD came out and they came with a connectable drive. PS3 heavily invested in hardware up front, had built in bluray and hard disk sizes that didn't need to really be tweaked. Now, hardware is so cheap it shouldn't be any issue for Microsoft of Sony to have comparable hardware. This time it will come down to the OS, exclusive game series and fanboyism.

How much did Microsoft pay Harrison to talk-up the XBox One?

Wait, the upcoming consoles actually have games? Could have fooled me.

if its a steamworks game that disk is useless with out logging in to steam
as the disk just holds the encrypted game files just as if you did a back up after a down load

That completely depends on what your looking for. Gears of War feels and plays heavier. It feels like your a 250 lb muscle bound guy with a big gun plunging literally head first into cover. Thats how it feels and how its meant to play. COD and Battlefield are more finesse based. Its all a matter of what you want at the time.

I remember when the first halo launched i had an absolute blast with my cousins playing split screen when i first got the XBox. IDK why gamers feels like they have an obligation to bash every single thing they dont like.

I can go into detail about why TLOU is so over rated in the experience catagory but its because of how i think it should have been done, i dont say nobody should enjoy it because it didnt meet my vision of that type of game

probably less than sony paid "Insiders" to say their system is better on sites like negaf. Its a political game that both companies play, take off those rose colored sunglasses

The important is indeed the games. That is why SteamBox will elipse them both in the long run.

I had a 360 for a few years, and now having picked up a PS3 for GTA5... I love the PS3 far better than the 360.

Xbox One Has The Best Games

After that statement all I can do is think of this guy.

BEST%20BEST%20BEST.png

I guess he wasn't including the PC, because IMHO, PC has the best games. The only exclusive the Xbox One has and the PS4 doesn't have a similar game that looks pretty awesome is Titanfall which the PC has :D

PC still lacks a Forza/GT type game but thats about it

That's not making anyone switch.

I am telling you flat out, Xbox 360 owners are buying an Xbox One. PS3 owners are buying a PS4. Unless one of the two companies went out of business, no one is switching camps. PC owners don't care and some of us are buying both.

Having said that, Microsoft has nothing to worry about and neither does Sony when it comes to console sales.

Coming from you this is funny. Are you like a satire persona like unclegoogle?

Actually I, who does 90% of my gaming on PC does care, but not to the point that ill choose one over the other exclusively. Ill be cancelling my PS4 pre order simply because i dont see anything in the launch line-up i have to have now, but i will eventually own ps4 xb1 on top of my console

"Clearly" it has the best games? OK, I understand the debate about whether Forza is better than GT or the other way around, but even if you decide which is better, it's not by any means a "clear" answer.

Statements like this are made because he thinks if he confidently addresses the issue that people will believe him. Most people won't argue against someone who confidently answers a question or who confidently shows the most knowledge, even if they are wrong.

This is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Microsoft is really starting to sweat because the PS4 is still ahead in polls of fan interest. Microsoft continues to backtrack and they will likely continue to backtrack on their philosophy. While we're on the subject of confidence, Microsoft's backtracking shows nothing but their lack of confidence in their own designs and philosophies.

If anything, statements like this and Microsoft's Xbox One change of policies should cause you to run! Microsoft "clearly" doesn't know what direction to take the One and "clearly" lacks confidence in their own philosophies.

Ironically your statement about microsoft being clearly behind the ps4 is the exact same type of statement your trying to criticize, there is no objective evidence that the xbox 1 will not succeed, just focused group polls that anyone in marketing can tell you mean jack shit

Yea. I'm still not sure which one to drop. Both are amazing machines, both will have some great games. I'm just not sure which games I want to go for this next year. After that, I'll probably own both, but for the first year, it's all one sided. Clearly it has the best games? From his viewpoint. From mine, they both look awesome. PS4 has some killer games, and the XBOne has some awesome ones. I have to give one up, though. Clearly, this is harder than I thought....

The true test for both systems will be when they launch in November ... if Sony can release enough stock to satisfy demand and has enough games at launch they will do well as the cheaper system ... if Sony stock leaves people waiting and the XBox is in stock (and they have games available at launch also) then they could do well ... if they are both out of stock then it is anyone's guess ...

since they both made a Christmas launch window they should both sell well for the launch ... after that it is harder to tell ... we'll have to see how the reviews and play videos look ... they will both need to have good games in stock at launch and throughout November/December to satisfy the Christmas purchasing crowd

Bullfuckshit.

Is that why the PS4 is outselling the Xbox One 2 to 1? So you're telling me there twice the number of PS3 owners than there are Xbox 360 owners?

Christ man...it isn't that hard to prove you completely wrong. You could have at least tried.

The graphics cards are the bloody same

No they aren't...where have you been the past few months? The PS4's GPU is 50% faster on paper. What that means in actual performance/visuals who knows? But to say they're the same so the consoles are equal is just plain wrong.

This is true. But, exclusives aside, what developer is going to put more time and effort into taking advantage of that extra power? Are they going to downsize the textures for the XB1 to make it faster (possible, but doubtful). Like with a lot of developers out there, and there are exceptions, they create these games for the lowest powered console and just port them to the others using the same textures and resources. PC gamers know this better than anyone with low quality console ports.

I think the first slew of games will be like this. After a good 6 months-Year, things will improve and there will be a noticeable difference when you compare them side by side. Will gamers care? Probably not. But, it gives us forum junkies good discussion material. Really, when we are in game, do we notice those small blurry textures in the corner polygon of the streetcar? No. Although, in games like Skyrim, I do like to stop and just look around. That's when I'd notice. But, would it sway my decision from the competition? No. I bought the thing to play the games. If it's that minor of an issue, who cares. If I want the best possible visuals, I go to the PC anyway (you can upgrade your video card, mods, change settings, etc. to get better visuals, too).

Now, if the difference were like PS1 to PS2 difference, I'd say there was a problem. But, it's such a minor thing that the majority of gamers really wouldn't notice or care about if they did. The main market is TV! SPORTS! CALL OF DUTY! ;)

As far as XBox -> XB1 & PS3 -> PS4... I don't buy it. I think there are some like that, but the PS4 has much more hype and positive street cred right now, so more people that follow the crowd are wanting the PS4. I was a big XB fan for a long time, and only recently picked up a PS3. Still not sure where I'm going for next gen, though.
