New Steam Controller

I just saw that. I just... don't know what they were thinking. I keep wanting to ask "wha... huh... how do you... but..." for hundreds of questions, but I'll just leave it at "speechless".

I'm not happy they didn't announce Source 2 or a new game, but at least that controller does seem to have super potential - thumbsticks are conservative and a nuisance for a lot of types of game-genres IMO

I would actually liked to have seen them use a highly accurate motion chip with gyroscope so that minor hand movements could be used (like a mouse) ... that could be useful as a mouse replacement ... but outside of the console crowd who is already used to finger control of games I don't see as much appeal for the PC user who is used to the accuracy and movement of a mouse ... perhaps that is just me though

this looks like a cool idea. i'll definitely try one out when they hit the market.

It's going to sell a lot because it's so different every gamer is going to want to try it. I just don't know how well it's going to translate.

I already have a 360 controller, and it works fine for me. It would have to be pretty easy to adapt to for me to replace my 360 controller with it.

Depending on price, I'm curious about how it'll work.

That being said, I'm disappointed that none of the announcements were actually game-related.

I'll need to try it before praising or condemning it. If nothing else, at least it isn't another clone of what we already have.

Looks weird, but I often thought about a control scheme like this before. I'll definitely pick one of these controllers up but hopefully they cost less then 100$...

I believe this was the controller Steam was beta testing with select people last year in the San Francisco area.

I would have wanted to apply for the testing for that unnamed controller then but I live about 8 hours away in SoCal. I'm curious now how this controller and I am willing to give it a try.

I'm sure that after all the feedback and private testing they did since last year, this was the best option that combined a console gamepad and controls for a PC.

i have to try it before i buy it, never been a fan of trackpads because they are usually so poorly done

That was quite literally my initial reaction. Soon followed by "Huh?" "Da fuck?" "How" "Why?" "The fuck?" "WTF" "How the hell.." and variations there of. After a good five minutes of that I've settled on: It is quite possibly the ugliest controller I have seen in years but I'm interested in seeing how it works.

I rather they kept the patented modular design instead, so users can use whichever control scheme they desire. Trackpad on the left side is retarded though.

I think it will work out fine as it can give feedback on how far you have moved.
So it can work as a conventional joystick or a positional pad.

This goes without saying. Who would trash a piece of hardware before they get it? This controller looks pretty spiffy and hopefully it advances controller technology as I'm kinda digging this concept.

Almost 10 year safter you get HL2, you get....duhn dhun dhuuuuuu a Controller!

Have a nice day bro'z!

Color me impressed actually. So long as what they're saying turns out to be reality, that is. More precise than thumpads, and not requiring your thumbs up and away like a normal console controller hopefully will minimize fatigue. Very impressed, actually. Damn, been a pretty exciting couple of days. This controller actually has me a bit more interested in a Steambox. Well played, Valve, well played.

Another thing to remember is that this is a hardware beta. I wouldn't take any individual feature of the controller as 100% set in stone, least of all the button placement

its one of those things where you have to try it, before you can really pass judgment on it.

Yeap, definitely going to have to try one of these controllers. I like the concept, a lot.

TOUCH ME

Anyone find it weird that they have the A,B,X,Y buttons spaced so far apart? They look difficult to press with one thumb.

no, because it has more buttons on the back of the controller, you can hit 8 buttons without taking your thumbs off the touch screens.

A, B, X, Y are like 4 additional buttons now.

Interesting, will take some getting use to. The thumb is by far the most dextrous finger, being able to press all 4 face buttons easily with 1 thumb will be hard to beat.

except now you can move, look and aim, while still hitting the 4 buttons on the back of the controller

instead of taking your thumb off one of the analogue sticks to use the 4 buttons like a normal controller

Exactly. I like the idea. Those dissing should reserve judgement until they've tried it. I could see it either being really bad ass or really meh.

Trackpads for PC gaming YAY!

yeah, too bad you can never use a keyboard and mouse again...

it's certainly not lacking in the innovation department, looks pretty fucking clever to me.

Yawn.. ill be using my 360 pad and probably One pad in the future for all PC games.
