Videocardz has great looking pictures of new AMD R9 production cards with chips just out of the fab ovens...factory fresh! They are going to have to build a stock of millions of these cards over the next few weeks and get them in the hands of reviewers and users.

Hmm, that blower cooler doesn't look particularly quiet. That's disappointing.

The display head configuration is 2x DVI + 1x HDMI + 1x DisplayPort... what the hell is AMD thinking? That means it's STILL impossible to run 3 matched display heads (for Eyefinity) on a reference-model card. Why not 1x DVI + 1x HDMI + 3x mini-DisplayPort?

They better have the screen-tearing issue fixed on this generation of hardware, otherwise people are going to be PISSED.

i was going for 1 7990, but with a Bit fenix Prodigy, i would like a blower, and this card looks good. Im in for 1!

Is it because the majority of the monitors out there are still using DVI and not DisplayPort?

Last time I've checked monitors below $200 or $300, very, very few have DisplayPort. I don't know why the adoption rate of the connector hasn't picked up yet.

Even a budget monitor at $100 to $150 doesn't have DisplayPort. Heck, most monitors that I see in stores like Walmart and Best Buy are DVI and VGA for some reason. Higher priced retail store monitors add HDMI. The DisplayPort monitors are rarely seen in retail stores and the rest can be bought online. Yeah, I know, they're not enthusiast monitors at 1440p to 1600p, but these are the monitors that the MAJORITY OF CONSUMERS purchase.

So, it makes sense for them to stick to dual DVI for now.

No, the maximum number of DVI/HDMI displays these cards can drive is still 2, same as the last five generations of AMD cards.

The configuration I suggested (1x DVI + 1x HDMI + 3x Mini-DisplayPort) gives you the same maximum compliment of DVI displays as current cards, plus the ability to run Eyefinity on matched heads (3x Mini-DisplayPort).

Would also let you do 5-screen Eyefinity off one card, but you might end up with the tearing issue due to mismatched outputs.

Your entire rant is irrelevant, the configuration I suggested supports just as many DVI displays as current cards (which is 2).

The configuration I suggested would handle dual-DVI just fine... HDMI can be adapted to DVI with a $1 passive adapter (or just use a cable that's DVI on one end and HDMI on the other to connect a DVI-only monitor to it).

btw AMD is going to announce today when their frame pacing phase 2 driver will be ready. don't be surprised to find it release on Hawaii''s retail launch day. :p

I didn't hear anything at all about frame pacing drivers.
