Takedown - June 6th 2013 screen shots

All the complaints are sad, I really wanted this to be awesome.

Its supposedly going to have mod support. Let's hope they release legit mid tools and let the community make a proper game out of it.

Mod tools can't fix broken code, particularly net/server code. If the game was solid engine wise and just lacked content then maybe mod tools could do something. However it is just broken on all levels.

Also, for multi-player games, they need to be strong out of the gate. If not, people will quickly move on and ignore it.

This one is dead, better luck next time :/

Have not played it yet, but give them a chance to release some patches. Mods will be needed to make this game better no doubt about it. I wonder how far mods can take the AI though... seems like it is the same from the alpha.

As for the lean, they did not have enough time to do the "proper lean" style. Andy made a large post about this and the crouching animations. Essentially it came down to lack of money and lack of a dedicated animation engineer.

Hate to say this, but perhaps buying this will be like buying an ArmA title. You buy it mainly to support the developers attempting to make a tactical shooter, with hopes that future updates and mods make the base game playable and the funds to develop a sequel that is what the game should have been in the first place.

Also, remember that this is a co-op game. The SP is essentially worthless.

What's absolutely killing this game for me is the FOV. You can set it in the console, but it resets itself each time you aim down sights, which makes the cvar useless.

Mouse sensitivity is another one. At its maximum, it's about half as sensitive as I need it to be. Couldn't find a cvar to change it.

So much for the PC being the "lead platform".

I doubt this will see a console release. I think the reason why the game is so shitty and incomplete and generic is because they ran out of money.

Could be wrong, but there's no way this was near ready for release so I see them releasing it as a cry for cash.

Either way, we'll see...as it stands now though this game is a failure.

Wow .. that makes it look like those budget titles that used to be sold at the store for a few bucks back in the day. Walmart had them.

Kinda agree with this. Especially with ARMA3, that game was definitely not ready for primetime.

ArmA 3 is WAY more polished than this...lol. Hell, I'm pretty sure the CQB in ArmA 3 is actually better.

Disagree with the CQB in ArmA 3. The AI can't navigate indoors, period. Opening doors is still extremely cumbersome. Even the Takedown Alpha's CQB was better.

Overall ArmA 3 is the better game, though IMO it is more of a letdown to me personally as this is the 4th time I have bought into the series only for my most wanted improvements to be absent time and time again. :p

It is being released on Xbox 360. The crappy menu UI design reflects this. Not ideal for mouse use, but works with both a mouse and controller. Personally I was annoyed at this. The PC is still the primary platform, but the menu design for the PC version was certainly sacrificed to be workable on consoles to. I really, really hated the UI in the alpha and it does not look like it has changed.

Takedown's AI certainly isn't anything to write home about. Though I will say that ArmA's AI is not actually designed for CQB, so it's not great in that respect. The movement in ArmA 3 feels a lot better to me, though. Takedown is supposed to be methodical, but it just feels slow for the sake of being slow. Not bring able to move while leaning is just inexcusable as well.

I watched Total BaldMof's vid posted here and thought oh damn, that's not good. Installed it played about 45 minutes of it...my first impression of it, well lets just say I'm not very impressed. I'll expect a patch sometme today to fix the broken multiplayer, or I will be asking for a refund.

I think the game has incredible potential, I was having fun even in singleplayer. Lets hope they fix all teh bugs...

As of now I get one server showing with 200+ ping. nice
Also when I lean in multiplayer it becomes toggled and have to hit q or e again to stand straight again. How is it even possible to fuck this up this bad? They really screwed the pooch with this, bigtime. Right off the bat many people are going to look at this, see it for what it is. laugh their fucking asses off, and move on to something else and forget that this pos even exists. I know I'm about ready to already. Really, really, really tired of shit that doesn't work properly, not limited to gaming but all things in general.

Lol...wow. A lot of hand-wringing and "it's intentional due to hardcore nature of the game" bullshit going on in that post. Some of it I can understand, but not being able to lean more than 2 inches and not move while doing so is intentional because it's "realistic and hardcore"? No, it isn't. Also, having to port forward? This is 2013, get real...plus, it's a Steamworks game and you need port forwarding? Ridiculous.

I lost quite a bit of faith in Serellan reading that post, to be completely honest.

Most of his points are true, but those are not things people are complaining about. The braindead AI, horrific UI design, and MP issues are what people are upset about. Things I thought would have been improved since the alpha that apparently were not going by videos. Perhaps they will release a patch before I get to try it...

Some of the recoil on the weapons, at least in the alpha, were absurd to. The 7.62x51 rifle jumped about 2 feet in rapid fire. Youtube "LMT MWS rapid fire" or "AR-10 rapid fire" and you can see how little (in comparison to the game) such a rifle recoils when rapid firing.

I reinstalled Raven Shield to verify that it was actually 100x better than Takedown and not just nostalgia glasses...and yeah, it totally is. Way more depth of tactical planning and organization...plus, a lean that is actually useful!

Yeah, I went back and read it and a lot of it is true, though like you said, not what people (other than CoD fanboys that wandered into the wrong forum) were complaining about.

I gotta say though, this line:

When you lean, it doesn't go far enough and you cannot move.
This is also intentional design due to the realistic and hardcore nature of the game.

Is infuriating. Can you not actually lean and move in real life? Come on, now. Raven Shield had much better leaning and it was still realistic.

It's aged decently. The gameplay is still spectacular.

I think we all have to resign ourselves sadly to the idea that Raven Shield and SWAT 4 are probably the last words on this subject.

Well, there is the 2.0 mod for Raven Shield, and they are working on a new mod called Project VI.

I wonder how much they can improve. That old engine must have some big limitations. I play with the Ordinance mod myself. I think their new weapons are much better than the ones 2.0 featured. There were a lot of other changes in 2.0, though I hated the visor vision and the AI seemed a bit aimbot-like. I think I still have it installed though.

You should check out the official forums...almost no complaints at all. I'm guessing those threads get deleted immediately.

Plenty of negative threads there.

I found this to:
http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/576749346952102186/CB010442CF7ED79010AA0D14A7621041DE752A1D/

Apparently enemy AI can surrender when they run out of ammo. They need to add more complexity to the surrendering mechanic and work it into the gameplay more. Maybe make flashbangs have a chance of making enemies surrender. Then we can get a SWAT 4 style feel going and change up the pace from "kill all bad guys" all the time.

I finally played the game last night, though just messed with the loadouts and the killhouse. I hate how you must exit to the main menu to change a load out. I could not remember what loadout 2/3 were. And because of the location of the rifle I actually can't see the magazine for my ARs. I could not tell if I was using the .40 or 5.56 version...

They do...a couple days ago there were a lot. I know I made a couple and each one got closed.

Totally agree with this. Lots of the things they blame on the "hardcore nature of the game" are bs. About the lean: I'm actually a bit confused because in some other post they admitted that they removed the lean while moving because of a bug that caused other players not to see other players lean so people could lean around corners, shoot people and not be seen by them. And they didn't fix it and decided to remove it instead. But in this post they say that it's due to realism ... I don't get it.

Yeah, there are still some negative threads but it seems like half of them got closed. But that must've happened yesterday or 2 days ago because for the first 2 days they actually didn't delete the big wave of negative threads after launch. They only closed some that derailed into swearing and insults.

I have a key for this game from my kickstarter donation.:D

If anyone wants one, let me know......I don't plan on using the key, not because of reviews, just don't have the time to do it.

Mehh..tbh I wouldn't even take this for free, no offense lol. It would feel like rewarding the devs by even installing it.

Yeah, I'm so pissed that I supported them by pre-ordering. Now they think that I like the game because I bought it etc. But I will never again pre-order any game made by a small unkown dev team on low budget, that's for sure.

Come on, guys...this game is bad but let's remember it's only a $15 title, and it was one of the first Kickstarter video game experiment things (at least, that I saw and took part in). It's disappointing, sure, but you guys are acting like you paid them $60 to murder your dog or something.

I've been a fan of these games since the original Rainbow Six, so it's really painful for me to see this fail like it has. But hopefully it at least shows an interest in the genre and maybe other companies will work on similar, better titles (I think Ground Branch is still in development, even though it failed on KS).

Playing it a bit more, there is some good to it. The maps and bullet penetration are nice. Maps feel a lot like Raven Shield. The overall weapon damage model feels good. But the game does still feel like an alpha. Grenade throwing is odd, AI is pretty bad. I think if they had a few more months the game could have been rather good.

I'm guessing this release had something to do with venture capitalists wanting their money (set a firm release date)? They really should have narrowed the content (even more) and just made the few things in the release as awesome as possible. I mean the Counter Strike like animations are god awful.

Also, this should have been released as a public (paid) beta. That one little tag would have gone really far. People are upset because they thought this was a release candidate, which it clearly wasn't.

Man, I need to buy Raven Shield now. I'm going through SWAT 4: Stetchkov Syndicate, but when I'm done with that I'll have nothing tactical left.
