The award for "fastest way to spend a year in jail" goes to these morons. Please tell me they didn't buy the police car just for this little caper.

Police say the three drove to the mall in an unmarked police car with lights and sirens that was purchased at an auction. They used their fake authority to jump the line of about 500 gathered outside the Gamestop store, purchased the game and left in the car.

Had they not ran the red lights, they probably would have gotten away with it. lol

man the mentality of people that "need to be the first" is just fucking retarded in this country (yeah I realize the US is by no means alone in this).

"Their plan started to unravel when the driver ran several red lights, which attracted the attention of the real police"
I think these guys need to get a "Stoopid Criminal of the Day" award.

Hilarious. This is the mildest case of impersonating an office I've ever heard of though.

Sentence each to receive 500 kicks to the nuts for cutting line and whatever relevant fines for running red lights and go on with life.

Especially considering they still had copies in the stores yesterday, seems a little excessive lol

Amazon had mine on my doorstep by the time I got home.

Agreed but in today's society all things must be made out to the equivalent to committing murder....

If I was a GameStop employee I would have asked for their badge numbers and phoned it in. None of the three were over 20, I would have called bullshit on them being cops immediately.

LOL that is awesome... but yeah, stupid. TBH I never figured that was a crime, then again if I was to want to do it, I'd probably find out first.

I never understood this thing of lining up for a new game or any product. Wait like a week and you can just walk in and pick it up. I guess people have this rush where they want to beat the game before most people even bought it.

They actually bought a police car, that's what makes this so awesome lol. I would figure that a police car being sold would have the lights removed though. Always thought of how fun it would be to own a white crown vic, just to mess with people.

After further thought, if they just said they were cops to skip ahead in line, then the employees probably had no idea. What stupid bystander lets a cop get ahead of them in line....for a video game?

Why do people even line up for games at Gamestop of all places to begin with? Seriously. There was about 10 copies in the electronic department of my grocery store in the same mall. Besides myself, the department was nearly empty with a woman developing her photos, two of her kids watching Epic on the multiple TVs and the attendant. That was it. Not to mention the game was a few cents cheaper than Gamestop.

Not that the grocery store isn't busy. It was a mess of people buying everything BUT GTA5.... I've lined up for a game once, would never do it again. I guess that's just the type of demographic who shop at Gamestop.

Yea it's fairly stupid. I have not heard of a shortage of a game release since the cartridge days unless it's for a Special Edition.

If they had just parked the car in a garage and walked out calmly, all would have been forgotten.

Or just press R1, R1, CIRCLE, R2, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT...

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths people will go in order to obtain an object of their obsession. Stupid people...

So they bought police uniforms, bought a retired police cruiser at auction, skipped the line to buy Grand Theft Auto 5 by impersonating officers, then proceed to drive the Police Cruiser like they stole it and get caught by the real police. Anyone else see the irony here?:D

The only way this story could have been better is if they stole the police cruiser.

I hope the judge throws the book at them. These guys are beyond retarded.

I stole a police cruiser yesterday and ran from the cops.
I walked up to the cop, punched him in the face and jumped in his car and took off.

500 people waiting in line to be "among the first" after waiting since 4pm the previous day the 500th person in line gets his copy around 2am. Meanwhile Joe the Plumber two doors down leaves his house at 8am after having a nice breakfast and a good power dump, drives to Walmart, takes 2 minutes to walk from his car into the store, another 5 minutes to go to the entertainment department, picks up a copy and within 15 minutes is back home playing GTA5

Grocery stores sells a mature rated game? Wow.

Target is a pretty good place generally no one pre orders from there and people don't buy a ton of video games from there. Can even find collect edition stuff at times all without pre order. Other places like that, but yeah no reason to line up at a gamestop or some crap like that. Hell i rather just download the game.

Impersonating law enforcement is a VERY serious issue. I don't get this increasingly permissive attitude when people commit serious crimes. Punishments are a good deterrent as you DO NOT want people going around pretending to be cops. In many cases that this happens, the outcome is not good.

Thank you for the story, and to think I was having such a bad day. The utter stupidity of others is normally a significant source of aggravation...

Wow, I'm doing it wrong, apparently. The last and only time I waited in line for a game, I had just gotten off work and was in uniform. I waited in line, should have cut!

What's funny is while I was playing last night one of the talk radio stations said it was going to talk about "why people stand in line for phones"

I can understand wanting to be "first" to get into an MMO or something where you will be interacting with a large number of people (did a couple WoW expansions and it was fun as hell), but normal games like Grand Theft Auto? Am I missing something?

All the money and time they wasted... only to do something so stupid.

Impersonating an officer is a huge huge issue -- this time it was to cut in line for a video game, next time it's to pull over someone, rob them, beat them, rape them, whatever.

If you impersonate a cop - you should have the maximum sentence given to you. Let these retards get a real life glimpse of the GTA world they love so much from behind a set of bars.

I can't speak for everyone, but me and my friends go to midnight releases for the crowd. It's fun to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. It's like asking why folks would go to a comic convention instead of just sitting at home and reading the comics. Some folks go all out. At the last Halo release, we had a guy in full MJOLNIR armor. Our Gamestop also provides free Mountain Dew to everyone in line, has trivia questions, gives out posters and cardboard cutouts, etc. It's a full fledged event. Last time I went, the pizza store in the mall was open as well. They must have made a killing - EVERYONE had a slice, and I know they weren't free!

I hope you're jesting, but you do realize that this forum post can be used as evidence against you if you're not?
