GTA V Sales Exceed $800M On First Day

We normally don't comment on press releases but $800 million in sales on the first day is just insane. :eek:

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today announced that Grand Theft Auto V delivered the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the Company and the Grand Theft Auto series. Launched on September 17 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the title has already received widespread critical acclaim and achieved first day sell-through of more than $800 million worldwide, excluding the upcoming launch in Japan and Brazil, according to Company estimates.

But.. The Piracy! wait a minute..

Release it on PC next time.. And you would have made more. Now you get to wait for many people to buy it during a steam sale.

Wow you guys bitching and moaning about it not coming to the PC did little to stop how much it was going to make. As an avid PC game I have already come to the conclusion that we will almost always take a back seat as it is not longer a lucrative of a market.
 
So will this enable a proper PC port before the next presidential election?

Expected, easily 1 billion within the first month. Hell I think they may make 1 billion by the first week of sales.

PC gaming has always been a very lucrative market. Not selling a game to a market that earns 13+ billion dollars per year does not somehow make a company more money. It just cuts down on the console gamers bithing about their version not looking anywhere near as nice as the PC version.
 
I nearly caved and bought the game seeing how we don't know if/when there will be a PC version. I can't be alone. I bet at least a few of those millions came from PC gamers who didn't want to wait around.

I still havent caved. Not enough of my friends are getting it right away and I am quite busy these days making it really hard to find an hr or two at home to play some games. I am always in the library now or at work. Maybe around thanksgiving when I have a break I will pick it up and hopefully they will have it on PS4 and XBone or if they are really nice PC.
 
Meh. I have a 3year backlog of Steam Deal games that I think didn't mount to more than $100 total purchased.


I'll buy it when its in the bargain bin. :D
 
PC version - Another 1-3 million sales
PS4 / Xbone version - Another 2-4 million sales

Rockstar is going to be A-OK in 2014.
 
Would be quite the achievement if it was actually a good game rather than a fad.
 
And 2K's bottom line is immediately returned to the black again. It's amazing how one game can seemingly keep a single publisher mostly afloat :)

Good for them, they have recovered their development costs and then some.

I have it on my 360. Some games are just better on a console, and GTAs are one of them, Surround sound, 53 inch tv....awesome.

Even on the PC, for these kind of games I use the 360 controller anymore as well.

All the Grand Theft Auto games have rocked..., not a fad...I pre-ordered the deluxe version since I decided to can my ps4 release day.

When GTA IV came out I spent 3 days straight on it, threw my back out with the controller since I play mainly PC games. LOL.

FYI..I'm 47 years young.

The graphical fidelity of GTAIV is an order of magnitude better on PC. Other than shitty DRM layers, it is the superior version.

Surround sound, greater-than-30" displays and X360 controllers are all popular PC peripherals.
 
Props to Rock Star. They have earned their success. Now I wait patiently along with others for the PC version.

I can play GTA IV on my Home Theater PC (in sig below) with an XBox 360 controller on my big screen TV. Since it is built of used parts my HTPC its near the same worth as a used Xbox360, and even with its older video card it has better graphics.:p
 
Yeah the port will have issues. Regardless of their take for consoles.

Congrats though. It is a better game than most and blops 2 by far.

Not going to play it until PC bc microsoft refuses to update my dec 2005 launch 360 anymore. I don't think they believe any such animal still exists lol. It does have 2 120mm fans in it now and died 4 times but still...

Awesome how angular size works too, 36" from my 23" monitor is the same as me sitting 8 feet from a 61" TV.
 
BS.

I sit about 4 feet from my 47" 1080p in my office... with a 770 video card 7.1 surround and an xbox controller. Yeah, I'm not playing it until the PC version arrives.

It's the same thing with the AC games. Plug in the XBox controller to your PC and get higher res, better frame rates and the same gameplay. How is that not a win?
 
Cue all the bullshit video games and violence articles.

Anyway, good for Rockstar. Can hardly wait for the PC release so I can play this game properly!
