Why The GTA V Petition Won't Speed Up Its PC Release

Why doesn't Rockstar release the PC version of GTA V sooner? Because they know we are all suckers that will line up to buy it, regardless how long they make us wait, petition be damned.

When Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in April of 2008, it waited roughly seven months to bring the title to PC. Now, as the fifth installment in the series hits store shelves Tuesday, the developer famous for keeping its lips sealed about studio secrets has no reason to change up that formula -- no matter how many signatures the ballooning Change.org petition garners.

6 or 7 guys from work took their lunch breaks today to go pick up the Xbox 360 version, and all of them that I talked to plan to buy it on a next gen console as well. R* has it figured out...

When friends get done with their console version before the PC version comes out, I don't buy the PC version.

That earlier thread mentioning the production/marketing cost had alot of people who are going to be disappointed in seeing this thing flop. The $265 million is going to be offset on day one alone, wow. The line at gamestop was really long. Some people stood on it for 45 minutes.

Dunno why the GTA crowd is so big. I thought all of the GTA game were average at best. I have plenty of time to think about it before it finally gets on PC 7-8 months from now. Rockstar doesn't need us PC gamers and I don't need Rockstar.

Weird -- I saw plenty of copies just sitting on the shelves at walmart today when I was there for groceries.

Was really tempted to pick up a copy myself, but with BF4 hitting in a month, I'd forget about GTA5 for a good long while. Might as well wait for it on PC and put my 7970's to work.

Game looks super awesome, just refuse to throw 60 dollars out the window on a version that's running on 10 year old hardware.

I think the petition should have been for Rockstar releasing GTA V on the PC in a timely manner instead. We KNOW it'll make it's way eventually to the PC just as every single GTA has before it (except the Nintendo DS and PSP versions). So to me this petition is pointless.

They should have asked Rockstar to not take a year to release it.

Speak for yourself dude. I love Rockstar and love GTA just as most gamers do.

wasn't GTA 4 a resource hog and buggy on the PC?...I don't mind the extra wait time if they polish it up this time...I'm used to waiting on PC- Alan Wake, Dark Souls, Gears of War etc

But unlike most I am now patient enough to just wait for the PC release.

I also, finally, learned my lesson once and for all with EA and won't preorder BF4 until I play the open beta.

This. Never really liked GTA (or R*), and never really cared.

It's more like they know people are impatient, so the longer they take, the more likely people will be to break down and buy the console version, and then re-buy the pc version later.

Just speculation here. But, now that we know the numbers for the game (production cost), they were probably too far in to development on the current gen title (years) to allow a delay. That delay would cost a ton more. So they most likely put everything into getting it ready so they could beat the release of the new consoles.

I'm guessing the development teams will take a vacation (as is the usual) and then pick up on work for next-gen and PC. Using the capital from the current gen sales to fund operations.

From a business standpoint, it's the smarter move. They will get a lot of repeat sales from the delay.

Go take a history lesson. They've always released the PC version months after the console version with the exception of the specialty games (such as the game boy) and the originals (that started on the PC)

Hopefully at least a few of the quest bugs in the game will be resolved when the PC version comes out.

Ha! I kill me!

Ironic that you say "speak for yourself" and then "most gamers love GTA". Speak for yourself.

GTA is irrelevant to me unless it comes to PC.

If it doesn't come to PC they will have saved me $60. I don't play on consoles.

There's plenty of copies available since they most likely expect the crowd buying the game. Also I don't think Walmart had any preorder goodies or special edition to go along with the game.

Picked up my copy today. I haven't played yet, but the cover art looks awesome!

Gives me about a month to beat SP and have fun in MP before BF4 comes out on the PC and then my XBOX goes into hibernation.

PC or it doesn't fucking matter.

How about this petition by a bunch of asshats?

Guess you never heard of Max Payne 3? That PC version was exemplary. People keep trying to make assumptions that GTA5 will be poor on PC based on GTA4's rough transition to PC >five< years ago. R* has obviously moved on from 2008.

This...
...and my backlog includes Outlast, Tomb Raider, Machine for Pigs, Metro Last Light, Bioshock Inffinate, Blacklist, Batman A.C....

and more good PC games in the pipe already...

GTA 5 may just be old news whenever they get around to the PC version, still, will likely pick it up if it still seems modern.

I'd just like to say, great move Rockstar.
You just coded for the limited resources of Xbox 360 and PS4 and the next gen consoles will be x86 based.
Now you've got the chance to code us a REAL GAME that takes advantage of our souped up hardware instead of a glorified port.
Bravo.
I'd rather wait and get the game we should have instead of the game we're used to getting.

This. Even a single Titan can't max out Max Payne 3 at 1600p.

I can wait a year for GTAV. The novelty won't wear out, as long as I don't watch any gta5 videos.

I've played similar games like saints row, and GTA games always have more polish and atmosphere.

Even if GTA is considered average, that would mean other imitations are mediocre.

The DRM nightmare that was GTA 4 on PC pretty much made me hate Rockstar. I am currently watching a walkthrough for GTA 5 and that will be as close as I get to anything they make from now and in the future til they calm down with the DRM.

I don't understand you PCtards. I've been gaming on consoles since I was 3 years old (original Nintendo), and I've been doing PC since I was 5 (Doom). Yes, consoles are different than PC, but they're still fun. Regardless, this game is five years in development, and it kicks ass, no matter the platform. I've been playing it all night on PS3.

I don't understand the big deal about getting it onto PC since I choose to maximize my gaming choices, and I'll play whatever platform is available. We all know PC is coming, as it has the last three major GTA iterations, so just wait it out and stop complaining, or buy it for one of the consoles if you have to play it now.

As for next gen, this game was designed for the current gen as development began FIVE YEARS AGO. It would be stupid to delay it further and only release it on the next gen when there are millions of players on current gen who may or may not be getting next gen anytime soon.

Yes, consoles are different than PC, but they're still fun.

No one is disputing that. Of course consoles are still fun. Just a lower level of fun (i.e. not in the 'amount' of fun, but in terms of a hierarchy). Playing both consoles and PCs just means you're no longer pure.

I really don't care for GTA V. Let the consoles have it. GTA games are played out.

I'm sure a PC version is well into development. The code leak a few weeks back is evidence of that, not to mention the fact that all the official screenshots shown before launch look incredibly hi-res with anti-aliasing unlike the final release versions of 360 and ps3 which don't look quite as good.

The PC version is also the next gen console version. That's the main reason why it isn't out yet. They can't ruin the console launch by releasing it. That's if they have even finished the game yet.
