Any news on BattleField 4 ?

What an absurd amount of grips. They even give you a folding one which you use in a half folded position. :p

I am rather annoyed that there seems to be so few rifles. Considering lots of them are just slightly reworked (same animation for the HK, ect.) I would have expected more at launch. Ideally, all of the ones from BF3 plus new stuff.

I hope we get more than 9 maps at launch this time...

10 have been confirmed. Then a couple months later 4 more (China Rising) included in the preorder price -- and they look breathtaking to be honest, jungle maps finally.

I see. IMO if you are going to release a game this quickly put some more content into it.

I'm surprised at how "meh" I am regarding the upcoming release of BF4. I dunno, maybe I burned out a bit with BF3. BF4 kinda just looks like BF3 "now with moar grind".

nobody likes you Killa|3yte. nobody. :p

i'm hnnnnng excited for BF4. partly because i love BF3 and partly because i'm just excited to get into a new game. in fact i'm taking the last half of that week off from work so i can maximize my geekyness. lots of beer and BF4 for me that week.

I'm with ya. I'm a huge BF2/3 fan and 4 hasn't captured my interest or wallet. I like the fact that the specs aren't too steep and I can play it nicely on my current rig, but I agree with your grind statement.

Sometimes games come out of nowhere and capture the community. I'm holding out some optimism for this game to do that.

Right, I just don't know if I have the energy to hop on the hamster wheel for months. Maybe I'm getting too old. I've been enjoying my PS3 lately though. Last of Us and now looking forward to GTA V!

The videos I've seen show points racking up left and right. I'd imagine there's less grind than in BF3, but that remains to be seen.

Though it would have been nice if unlocking a certain attachment or scope would unlock it for all weapons, rather than having to unlock for each individual weapon. IMO, that's a disincentive to using a variety of weapons, especially since BF3 gave you the best weapon in the game (M16A3) right at the start.

Although I usually agree, think about it, how often did you play a lot of the maps? It was always the same 4 or 5 maps for me. I played S. Crossing like 3 times. The skydive map like 2 times. Firestorm like 900 times. The supply/demand usually dwindles the map lists on most good popular servers.

I noticed the point thing. Was there a killstreak bonus in BF3? I've seen it pop up in BF4 videos.

I still wish they'd give less points for killing and give more points for supporting / playing objectives / teamwork.

You sure you're replying to the right post? :) I was answering a guy asking about how many maps there would be at launch that then went on to complain there should be more.

I'm not sure what some people expect honestly, before they'd be satisfied - 50 maps? 100? Its a multiplayer game, and the map design and ebb and flow of everything are designed around replayability. Considering the hundreds of millions of CoD kids that are thrilled stupid to be able to run circles around a school bus map endlessly, obviously the BF3/BF4 maps offer a whole lot more. There's a formula to the MP shooter genre that obviously works. And at least 20 additional maps will be released in time in DLC's (5 x 4-map packs confirmed). Whether some people think that's lame or unfair doesn't really matter, enough people are buying.

My reply was to the person complaining about the map total. I'd rather have 6 kickass well thought out maps over 12 semi decent ones.

I do think DICE needs to be more proactive with feedback. Look at the metrics, find out which maps aren't being played a lot and then request feedback on why. Is it a slight design issue? Or are they just not well liked? Design future DLC around the popular maps.

seems like just about all of the maps in BF3 are still being played today. off the top of my head the few that are rarely played are: Tehran, Alborz, and Death Valley. IMO Dice did a good job of creating popular maps in BF3.

So is there any reason to pre-order if you intend to get Premium? In BF3 it was a waste to pre-order because I just ended up buying the same expansion again with premium.

Also, I like how they put the Battlefield 3 vehicle unlock in as a bonus for ordering BF4. They must hope people don't realize it's for the wrong game.

That preorder offer about BF3 unlocks has existed for a long time, and believe it or not there are still new people buying BF3 all the time so it was really meant for them.

Depends. You still get to pre-load and play right away. That is about it though.

7 posts above yours xnikx. So, what's the best option. Pre-order (And from where??) or wait till it comes out and buy premium? (Is premium available when it comes out??) What is this battlefield premium anyway? I stopped playing BF3 before it came out.

it's all the DLC's at a reduced price compared to buying them individually, and then some other BS like server queue priority etc. I paid full price for BF3 Premium and easily got my money's worth. the DLC maps are great IMO.

You can preorder BF4 from GMG and get $8 cash back or $12 credit. If you want premium then take the credit and get premium for $38.

Review this if you're on the fence on pre-ordering or not:

I'm not going to be pre-ordering because I will be getting premium anyway, which includes the first DLC (China Rising). Battlepacks seem lame to me. I don't mind earning everything through play time.

So, in short:
Deluxe Pre-Order: Access to BF4 beta (which BF3 premium members get), 3 Gold Battlepacks, Vehicle Shortcut Bundle for BF3, China Rising Expansion Pack.

Standard Pre-Order: 1 Gold Battlepack, Ground Vehicle Shortcut for BF3, China Rising Expansion Pack.

Premium Membership: All 5 Expansion Packs, 2 week early access to all expansion packs, exclusive personalization options (exclusive camos, paints, emblems, dogtags, and more), priority position in server queues, weekly updates with new content (no idea), exclusive double XP events, 12 battlepacks.

The only perk you get from pre-ordering BF4 is the China Rising expansion pack. Everything else is based on which version of BF4 you buy (digital deluxe or standard edition). So, if you're going to get premium there is no point in pre-ordering unless you need beta access 3 days before everything else.

There you have it.

Battlepacks are a minus for me. a big part of the fun is working towards unlocking equipment.

I have the same thought. Premium does come with 12 though. I'm not sure if they are just codes you redeem or if they automatically apply to the account. We'll find out I guess.

Of course they're not going to automatically apply the unlocks. That would be ridiculous. Has to be done manually.

They are intended for all the ADHD console kids and CoD crossovers.

Pretty much. There's no point in buying anything but the most basic if you're planning on getting premium at any point. Even if you plan on getting it in a month or two (maybe a GMG 20% sale?). The base maps should be able to hold you over. Then it's a refreshing boost from the China Rising expansion. The game launches on Oct 31st, that's two months (roughly) before Christmas. I'm sure Premium will go "on sale" at some point during the holiday season, maybe even on black friday / cyber monday. *I* don't really need those maps that quickly.

With BF3, I didn't preorder / buy the limited. So I ended up having to buy Karkand. Then they came out with premium and that was included. I refused to buy any of their DLC out of spite (plus, I got tired of the game by the time a non-CQB DLC came out).

I'm in the same boat. I bought BF3 limited edition (came with Strike at Karkand) because they hadn't yet announced Premium. I think at that time the DLC wasn't a pre-order bonus, but rather an included perk to buying the limited edition. It's been awhile though so I could be wrong.

I'm not sure when China Rising comes out but chances are Premium will have been on sale before it does. I don't think they've announced the release for the China Rising yet. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with this. As someone that got every dime's worth out of BF3 + Premium (I'm approaching 1000 hours after 2 years), my strategy for BF4 is this: Buy regular BF4 on launch day, and buy Premium the first day China Rising is available to Premium. I love DICE but fail to see the urgency in participating in a massive interest free loan to EA with all this preorder nonsense. And there really are no meaningful preorder-exclusive bonuses.

I will say, the killer feature of Premium is getting 2 weeks early access to the DLC's. Battlelog kids moan "that's like commanism or somethin bro" but it is what it is. Unfortunately its must-have especially if you play in a clan, otherwise listening to everyone else having a blast playing new maps becomes unbearable over teamspeak :) I recognize that is irrational, but me no care, the price for premium for 20 maps - especially when factoring how much I got out of Premium with BF3 - is insane value for money for what I'll easily put 500-1000 hours into over the next couple years.

Well if we look at BF3's original launch date (Oct. 25) and see its relatively similar to BF4's launch date (Oct. 29) and then we factor the first BF3 DLC launch date (Dec. 6 initially for PS3, Dec. 13 for all others), I think a December, maybe mid-December launch for China Rising isn't out of the realm of possibility. That'd be my guess.

I have a feeling there's going to be screaming when these jets start dropping bombs on the many soft, over-ripened infantry heads.

In any case the explosions are looking seriously impressive, definitely improved in this game.
