Battlefield 4 PC System Requirements

I hope no one goes and upgrades before they have played it. I had a lot of fun with BFBC2, got real excited for BF3, got it on release day, and immediately upon playing it was just a instagib of Steve's 300 pound dumbbell dropping on my hopes and dreams. BF4 looks pretty and possible better but who knows...

"Windows 8 64-bit is the recommended OS. "

Dear EA, crack is bad mmmkay?

...the more you know...

So what? It is always wise to program your software geared towards the current generation of Windows, as the architecture will be similar in the next version of Windows.

I notice the minimum is Vista, I wonder if it will work on XP, it certainly isn't supported on XP.

would you say that 13 years ago when windows ME was the current OS?

I like how it's recommended that you have geforce 660 and 3 gigs of video ram. Fortunately, I had a gig of video ram installed in my ass for just such an occasion.

Your comment made me literally LOL at work. I was thinking very much the same thing. I was gonna cop me a new 760ti, but it "only" has 3 gigs.

Like BF3, no XP support. BF3/4 do not support DX9.

It completely makes sense that Windows 8 would be optimal because the guts are incredible. I just haven't seen a difference in gaming benchmarks yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they get out of 8, even though I will not be using it.

30GB of hard drive space required? Dear god. How many DL-DVDs will that take for the (compressed) install files? Hopefully just 2. Do not want to download this one!

Win 8 64 works great with my AMD FX-8120. It raises the minimum frame rate by having less workload drop off while gaming. BF3 is one of the few games that gives my processor something to do most of the time while running.

For example in BF3 when one team has pushed the other team into their base and all 64 players are confined to a small area, everything is smooth. On Win 7 64 I might get an occasional stutter that would keep me from say outrunning a grenade.

My maximum frame rate wasn't really affected in BF3. I don't notice performance loss when destruction happens like I did on Win 7 64. So the engine runs less peaky on Win 8 64 if I could pick an adjective to describe it. And that's kinda hard to show on graphs.

Looks like i'm good to go.i5(sandy) 7870xt(tahiti le)only 2gb though hmm.and 16gb ram +win 8 pro 64bit.nice
if only they'd add voice support.

I was asking a lot of people this question about bf4's vram usage and it seemed like a lot of people didn't know or gave a fkk. Nvidia has been shanking their video cards memory for years and did it again with the 700 series.. Everyone is buying these 2 gig video cards and they aren't going to cut it.. I have a gtx 670 2 gig and trying to figure out what to do.. So they release the 760 / 770 with a stock 2 gig vram when amd/ati have been at 3 gig for what 2 generations now? So I have to take in in the assss and pay another r$50-75 bucks for a 4 gig card or just turn down my settings.. Unless u have $700 bucks for a 780..

The recommended video spec for BF3 was a 580, and BF4 only recommends a 660 or 7870?...

6 core recommended for AMD. Maybe this game will actually be deeply threaded?

They also said 4 core recommended from Intel. I think when they say 6 core AMD its not so much because of core count (that could still have an affect though), but a specific processor generation and the performance level. Basically what they are saying is that if you have a Thuban or newer, you are good to go.

Agreed, Nvidia has been stingy with memory, but saying they won't cut is highly variable. So much depends on resolution. I don't expect any great leaps either. They're calling Frostbite 3, but I'd be shocked if it isn't FB2 with a crapton of optimizations. I suspect whatever ran BF3 well is also going to run BF4 just fine.

i think there is a much simpler reason: money from microsoft.

More the guarantee of 64-bit out of the box, all OEM's are required to ship Win 8 as a 64-bit install by default. Win 7 64-bit installs were still optional (although why you would ship a 32-bit OS in this day and age is beyond me).

Lots of games these days are 30gb. Max Payne 3 was. Took a couple hours to DL.

I'm having trouble remembering the last time I installed a game from a disk. When I started from scratch a couple months ago I left my computer on while I was at work and pulled down 100GB of games.

I think it will help that most monitors these days are 1080... While originally I was pissed about this trend, now that I am getting older and the first signs of eye degradation is occuring I am not so mad any more...

Who would have thought declining eye performance would be a benefit:)

Wow 30 GB, that is a lot. Good to see it will utilize 4 cores though. 2 of my cores are sad and lonely 95% of the time.

I think you're right. Exactly what I said in the BF4 thread here in the gaming forum.

Its kinda sad as it is that BF3 is bigger then windows 7 fully installed and patched. the soul fact that you will have bf3 and bf4 installed is twice the size of windows is kinda sad when you look at it.

Am I missing something here? they do not specify a resolution for these specs. do you really need more than 2 gb of vram for 1920x1080, or are they expecting higher resolutions to be the norm?

More textures in memory. More variety of textures onscreen require more memory. Higher memory requirement doesn't just mean bigger single textures ;) Some textures are tiled to save memory but with higher amounts of memory available today they could utilize a higher variety of textures. There are many ways memory could be used to the max so why not

I think the 3GB of VRAM is marketing for AMD.

^

Unless of course you plan on playing 3 screen with AA. I've had to max out my control panel AA settings to keep my 120hz from tearing on BF3 w/770 SLI (Mix of medium, high, ultra for optimal MP visibility).

Because its cheaper to tile... No company wants to pay to have max variety when only 2% of users would ever notice. People were happy with a 10 year old engine for the last 12 reiterations of CoD....

Plus with the crushing deadlines in the industry no one would want to add more work lol. I worked in it for a year and my wonderful fiancée is ecstatic with the hours I work as a CPA now...

To those that complain about Origin...really? It works fine 99% of the time, I bet you play Bf3 on it fine.
As for 3Gb, I'm sure on Ultra settings 64p Mp, 1080p may go over 2Gb Vram, that and the AMD partner thing makes it an easy sell. For most at 1080p, ultra minus Msaa & Ultra textures will bring it under 2gb.
I think most people on Intel side don't realize the extra Fps that can be had with Hex cores, especially for the 120Hz crowd. I know I'm going hex just for the extra fps it'll get me.
