Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM released on TechNet and MSDN

I'm reading that the hashes match the leaked ISOs, can anyone confirm that? I might just DL them from my TechNet account to be safe.

Big thanks to all the software developers who put the heat on Microsoft to get them to change their mind on releasing this. I'm sure they played a good part in this.

The hashes to do match on the x64 ISO so it looks like the leaks were indeed the real deal. I'll reinstall anyway using the MSDN keys though.

You can usually swap keys without a reinstall...

True, I already did that but the install needed a leaked key to install after which I changed it. I'm sure it's not an issue, I would just rather do my real installs from the official source.

So is it RTM or isn't it? The article seems to imply there is still more work to be done on it before the official release date. I thought RTM meant final code?

It is RTM. What they're talking about are essentially 'day one' patches/bugs.

Will the 8.1 keys from MSDN work?

Since 8.1 is a free upgrade, how do I go about using my 8.0 retail key for a fresh install? I know I can install 8 with its key, then do an upgrade on Oct 18. Is there any way to use that key now?

The keys from MSDN and TechNet will work with a fresh install.

Thanks heatless, but just to clarify - are you saying a Win8 key (I have a few) can be used to install the 8.1 iso?

Sorry, that wasn't clear now that I read it. There are 8.1 keys on MSDN now. If you are trying to use an 8 key to do a fresh install it won't work, there is a dummy key floating out there that will allow you to do the install and then an 8 key can be used to active a fresh 8.1 install.

I think I will do this, thanks.

Yup, the dummy key and activating with your real Windows 8 key works fine.

Can u do an upgrade install with the MSDN ISO? I don't really want to reinstall.

What is the difference between the "N" version and the non "N" version on technet?

Used to mean it didn't include media player or media center but if I remember correctly Windows 8 didn't include these to begin with.

any other legal download links?

My technet account expired a few weeks ago.

Windows 8 does have Media Player, the N version doesn't include that still I believe.

Anyone know if StartisBack and/or Start8 works with 8.1?

So people that bought Windows 8 can't do a clean install of 8.1 using their own key? Odd...
