GTA V Cost $266M To Make?

Well whenever it makes it to Steam I'll buy it. Until then I guess I'll be missing out.

Is it just me or do these numbers seem off? If they are accurate, that means GTA V will need to sell almost five million copies just to break even.

This is not that much, given they sold almost 4 million copies of GTA4 on Day 1. From what I can tell, the game sells for $60.00. The gross will be greater than their cost within a week or two.

My guess is they'll be in the black before Christmas.

I remember when WC IV's budget was considered insanely high (well over 10 million) and there were far fewer with PCs (and generally WC games pushed hardware to the limit, which caused a lot of whining on message boards....somethings never change).

I think I remember reading somewhere that within' 7 days of the GTA IV release they made over $500 million in revenue on the game.

Pretty sure GTA V wont have an issue.

GTA doesn't need advertising. Everyone knows what it is.

Nevertheless, I saw GTAV posters at walmart today

Yes, everyone knows GTA is that game they've already played in slightly varying forms six or seven times already :)

I honestly hope it flops badly and they figure out its because they said fuck off to the PC market.

And this mentality right here shows just how severe the entitlement attitude of PC gaming elitists are. If it is true that they spent this much money for this game, they need to make sure that they can make money on it. That means that they are going to develop for the platforms that will sell the most copies. That means that your precious gaming rig is just going to have to wait. If you guys want games like this to come to PC first and consoles second, then you guys are going to need to prove to the market by making sure PC versions outsell the console versions.

Well in fairness he doesn't speak for all PC gamers, at least not the ones that understand market forces and economics of vidgame development in a more pragmatic way. There's also that demographic of "PC gamers" that are really just bottom feeders that only are about their little world and demand every AAA title be $5 on a steam sale or they dont touch it. Lastly, the derps that wonder "why no GTA5 for next gen thats stupid" also dont grasp the highlevel view.

Rockstar knows what they're doing.. There are hundreds of millions of dollars on the line so all of their product marketing maneuvers are carefully planned and carried out. Rockstar isn't in the business of selling consoles or making every platform demographic happy, they're in the business of selling games for profit, and even though there's been a resurgence in PC gaming, it makes total sense for them to release for the biggest installed base with the least *relative* piracy which is X360 and PS3.

I'm sure they'll release their PC version eventually as they did for Max Payne, meantime i won't lose any sleep and will happily play on the 360.

So why games like cod,bf 3,skyrim, all of wich sold more on console versions ,came out on all platforms from day one?its just rockstar policy, probably milking ms and sony for console exclusives...

So why the 6 month delay?

Because obviously someone at Rockstar figured out that it makes them a shit load of money. Good for them. I'm willing to wait for it on PC, aint no thang, lots of other games to play in the meanwhile.

You are missing the fact that Rockstar sent the game out to die on PC with GFWL DRM, and then ANOTHER account based DRM, Rockstar Social Club. Every PC user must create 2 accounts, (GFWL, RSC) on 2 separate websites before playing the game. From what I remember it was about over an hour before I ever saw the title screen. That shit pretty much killed multiplayer for the PC version.

The PC version was a fucking mess.
It's their own fault.
Actually the recent version of GTA IV requires you to uninstall RSC and replace it with GFWL, which is the only way I got the game to work at all.

Hmm just saw a map of the GTA V world, apparently Los Santos is now on an Island. I can understand no San Fierro, or Las Venturas (although that did make for some fun play in GTA:SA, but an island? really? oh well, guess it worked for GTA IV why not V

I don't have the expansion packs, we use different patches. Mine is vanilla GTA IV steam version and it always runs both, I have to sign in to RSC before the game starts.

266M as in million?
Wow, I didn't know the government had a hand in making it. Bundled in the cost was aid packages for 3rd world country dictators and kickbacks for corrupt politicians.
