TCL 7E504D 3840x2160 50" TV ($999)

How much does it cost to include the DisplayPort electronics?

If it's on the order of e.g. $200, then I understand the omission. If it's more like $40 like I suspect, it's ridiculous they aren't putting them in.

They would either need to add a DisplayPort-Only Timing Controller or use a TCON which supports both HDMI and DisplayPort.

The following WQXGA DisplayPort TCON costs $7 in 100k quantities.

Even with a DisplayPort TCON, it would be restricted to 4K@30p since there isn't any DP TCONs that can handle 4K@60p shipping yet.

They really should be bringing these things out with dual TCONs like the ASUS PQ321Q and Sharp monitors while we wait for the 4K@60p silicon to be taped out.

Still unsurprised by the lack of DisplayPort, since that's still the province of dedicated monitors and not HDTVs (I'm still expecting some wild-card Chinese manufacturer to do a 4K set with DP for no other reason than the law of averages, but God only knows when that will happen or how much it will cost). That said, the Seiki has turned out to be a halfway decent set for what it is; I'm at least curious to see how TCL's offering shakes out in comparison. I just wish it was bigger.

TCL has a 39 inch model available I don't own it though so I can't comment on it but I guess the screen is Skyworth one.

Hi folks, do any of you know how the CMI (Clear Motion Index) works on the TCL screen?

Just wondering if it's a Blur reduction ONLY, or has Judder reduction as well, and if/how customizable it is.

Also wondering if it's capable of being activated @4k, and how much benefit it adds to filling in "empty" frames for the 4K @ 30hz.

I know My Samsung Smoothmotion stuff helped with PS3 games that ran @ 30fps, it really gave it a near 60FPS feel, although it introduced some input lag (which isn't a huge deal if you aren't a crazy gamer that participates in tournaments for a living, or have a life).

I believe this is only in China, I haven't seen any plans for a 39" one in North America, although I hope they do.

The Seiki is a good buy, but I want something with Motion interpolation, the blur on 60hz LCDs kills me.

Universal Tcon's are rarely any good.
that being said the 60Hz ones are already ready.
