There are more Surface Pro 2 rumors floating around the internet today.

The Intel-based Surface 2 will run Intel's next-generation Core i5 "Haswell" processor. Neowin also said RAM will be doubled from 4 GB to 8 GB and that the new model will include a "refined" kickstand.

Think we'll see upwards of 8 hours of battery life on this? This is going to be one powerful little machine if the rumor holds true.

I cant see 8, power savings for haswell don't seem that good. 6 is my guess. BTW about time, they should have had this out months ago.

There are a LOT of different Haswell designs, this is probably be using one of the low voltage Haswells, there's no info on exactly which Haswell this is that I've seen. If Microsoft is smart, they are going with the best battery life they can get with solid performance as battery life was really the big weakness for the first Pro. I REALLY wish they would come up with a folding keyboard dock for these things which a battery as another option.

I wonder what they're going to price these machines at; I'm starting to really want one now. I'll dip into the budget for one for sure if it hits 8 hours of battery life.

Apparently my Microsoft rep listened to the feedback I gave him earlier this year about the Surface I demo'd.

Haswell has impeccable idle power, I'd only imagine a ULV would be insanely low.

I agree this should have been out months ago. MS needs to make this new Surface one full featured tablet: USB 3.0, BT 4.0, GPS, Accelerometer, fairly stout CPU+IGP, fastest SSD tech widely available, etc etc etc.

U suggested it should be clocked 150mhz higher?:))

Xbox team stealing ideas from other departments...haha!

If I disable wifi on my Surface Pro I can push 4.5 to 5 hours and with some further tweaks and remain productive and happy during that period. Typically I get around 3 to 4 though with moderate usage. If I am streaming something that usually drops to 2.5 to 3'ish hours.

8 hours seems pretty steep but if they have a better battery and much more efficient CPU it may be possible to push that high but I wouldn't get my hopes up. 6 to 7 hours seems more reasonable but time will tell.

I am curious what angles the refined kick stand offers and I hope the release month is similar to the original Surface and Surface Pro. Hopefully Haswell will come through for the device.

Got to figure that whatever comes out will have to go one sale pretty soon to make the holiday. I do imagine that Microsoft has learned a thing or $900 million about inventory control and probably will only make these as they sell, so they might be a bit hard to buy this holiday.

Exactly. I'd be all over it if they could do a Transformer like one, with the keyboard/dock offering double battery and extra ports. If it's just a keyboard, it's meh.

Plus, you can emulate Android, so if you have some must have Android apps, it's not that far out of the way. Best of both worlds.

"Improved kickstand"...what does it do, work better on anything other than a flat hard desk or does it just click louder? My wild hunch is the later.

+1. Surface pro 2 now with an improved kick stand so I can punt it ?

Hated first wave of Surface abominations and hope this second generation actually does well. MS needs a win or two now. Though price is going to be a tough push on a buying public calibrated to Apple and Android pricing structures. Obviously anyone that understands specs knows you get what you're paying for here. Also wish they'd subsidize the keyboard for 6-12 months by bundling it free until it gets off the ground more.

MS gets more ram, MS never learns.

When you need more hardware to run your software your competition wins. You can't sell the hardware at the same price point and hope that the savings you had for the OS make up for the difference.

More hardware shows your software engineers suck badly , welcome to the 21st century MS.

That's a first, someone on [H] complaining because something has too much hardware :D

Additional RAM and graphics/CPU hardware isn't just because of the OS but also because of Apps and programs ... better hardware allows you to run better programs ... since the Surface Pro is more targeted at the laptop audience, better hardware actually makes sense for them (if they can keep the price in the 999 range to compete with Ultrabooks)

Personally I think MS is targeting the wrong customer base by pursuing the general public who is likely already too embedded in Android and iOS ... Enterprise, however, hasn't been absorbed into the tablet community yet ... a fully compatible Windows tablet that performs equivalent or better to a laptop could do well in Enterprise (and Enterprise doesn't have the pricing pressure that the public consumers do) ;)

Never go full retard.

"Refined" kickstands is good...

Hmm... let's try this again with MORE Kickstand!

Not sure they are chasing the wrong market, but chasing it in the wrong manner? It is like a software engineer asking out the...They often just come off a desperate. Still a bit of battery life and better pricing would be nice.

I do agree one of the problems is that everyone orders from the same makers so tends to have close to the same prices. SO it is actually difficult to beat rivals on price, especially when you have to offer superior hardware. Windows 8 is leaner so it might help, but not sure it is lean enough yet.

Anyways hopefully they fix the backend which would make all of their devices compelling.

More RAM is definitely welcome for me, since I'd be running VMs on it. Complaining about more RAM? That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Good luck running full photoshop or 3ds max on an iPad or android tablet. "apps" are mostly half assed cut down versions of things with most of the [H]ard stuff taken out, and a Fischer price GUI stuck on.

So, good luck trying to do things that the tablet form factor isn't good at? OK then.

I'm looking forward to this, honestly. I've held off on the first generation of Surface Pro, but I'm going to watch the second gen very closely. I need to replace my old laptop and I don't really want/need another one. Desktop and tablet are my future.

I might even try to convince my company to get me one to replace my company laptop.

Frankly, if you don't mind the price, that looks like one powerful beast. I've only seen a couple of the original surface pros with the i5... but they really are SMALL for how powerful they are.

Not looking forward to trying to service these things though.

Yes working on smart phones when someone breaks the screen is not fun,so I can imagine.

I think if they added a solid keyboard, more akin to Asus transformer they would do reasonably well. Price might be an issue but it would be a device I would use. That does not mean it will have mass appeal, but that is what I would like.

I don't think I'd have a problem with one of the "type" keyboards, but I'll agree that the touch keyboard leaves a bit to be desired. A friend has a 128GB Pro now and he retired his laptop already. Of course, he's using the type keyboard as well.

Problem with surface for the enterprise is lack of a keyboard. That floppy piece of shit doesn't count. They need to have a solid keyboard like HP Tablet/Laptop hybrid. Its impossible to do any work on that floppy piece of shit if it doesn't sit on a solid table. This is why laptop for the enterprise are a still better buy.
I have a Surface pro from a event I attended and its hardly ever used my old vostro 13" gets more use.

I'm highly interested in this. I just picked up a Nexus 7 32GB over the weekend to replace my aging 1st Gen iPad. I ALMOST went with the SurfaceRT but I decided to hold out for their second revisions as I assumed they'd be coming Q4 of this year.

If they improved the battery life I'm sold and this will be a nice complement to the N7.

not sure how you pulled that from what he said...

unless you think all tablets perform/function the exact same way?

Don't forget about the power cover that got leaked earlier that is suppose to improve battery live even more. This might be an interesting toy!
