There are several metrics here including exclusives, sales, online, etc.

There are no stipulations, just go with your gut. ;)

I will say that I am glad to see Sony putting out more titles for the PS3 and sticking with what works for them. They have had an amazing year of exclusives already with GT6, Puppeteer, and Beyond: Two Souls still coming to the system later this year.

IIRC Microsoft has all but abandoned the 360 with just Gears coming out earlier this year and nothing serious on the calendar.

Over the last 6-7 years I have played the PS3 the most followed by the 360. My 360's got the most play earlier on this generation until Sony started pulling away and third party games started to be closer to the 360 versions (2009-2010?). Both consoles got a ton of use but overall I feel the PS3 gave me the overall more enjoyment with its variety of exclusives. I feel that Uncharted 2 was the turning point for me, it was a generation defining game that couldn't be played anywhere else. Before Uncharted 2 my PS3 was a Bluray player and almost all of my playtime was with the 360.

I still have my Wii but it has been in a closet for years with only a few days at most of playtime. Dolphin pretty much had me give the platform up because of its superior qualities.

I went with the 360. They sold more, and I'd say (no matter how lame I think it is) that Halo has more name recognition than all of Sony's exclusives combined.
Sony caught up a bit in recent years, but I still think that the "average gamer" is more likely to have and play the 360.

Voted Xbox 360, I own a PS3. I bought what my friends had and didn't look back.

MS, they made more money off software/services than Sony. I think Wii dominated hw sales and tied MS with software sales. But xbox360 is a better system than the Wii.

Who sold the most? Wii
Who had the best games? Ps3
Who had the best online integration? 360

Voted 'PC/Don't care'.
My platform of choice is still PC but as for the question - don't care. Consoles are 'meh' to me at this point. Closed ecosystems that by and large nickel and dime the gamer to death.

360 sold more units than the PS3?

I'd agree with Halo, but one game every 2 years doesn't sit well with me. Gears and Halo are good games I own them all but that's all they really had other than some great Arcade and indie titles.

The exclusives that were on the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 makes it a stronger console in my opinion. It had Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 (also on PC, but still), Oblivion, Mass Effect and Bioshock were all timed exclusives for the Xbox 360, and I felt that, by the time they came out for PS3, the ship kinda sailed by that point. There were actual exclusives (Halo 3, ODST, Reach, Halo 4, Gears of War, etc), and they were pretty strong too. It also had a good online experience, and many multiconsole releases ended up running smoother on the Xbox 360 than the PS3. And there were some very good Live Arcade games, like State of Decay, Monday Night Combat, and more. Finally, Xbox 360 had consistantly higher quantities of live opponents to play against than the PS3 did.

Of course, the advantages the Xbox 360 had over the PS3 definitely shrunk and got closer, especially over the past 2 years. At this point, if you were to say that the Xbox 360 won, it's by a fairly small margin. I like to exclude the media playing features, because it has nothing to do with gaming. Sony has the Bluray, Microsoft has their easy integration with desktop file servers and more streaming options. But neither do shit for gaming.

As for the Wii, it didn't have the damn games, despite the sales leads.

That just makes me sad. Honestly, I know the Wii had a broad appeal, I just wish Nintendo got punished for the lack of a good release schedule for it.

For me it was the 360. Between the Xbox 360 and PS3 my 360 got used way more. I played a few games on my PS3 the whole time I owned it. I used it mainly for blu ray movies. Most of the exclusives the PS3 didn't interest me that much. I played Infamous and Uncharted but after an hour or so I stopped playing it. Only one I want to play is last of us.

Everything that was multi-platform I always got for the 360. I find the 360 controller better for me. I don't like the playstation controller. For me there was nothing on the PS3 that wasn't already on the 360.

Missing out if you haven't played Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls

I started out as a 360 fanboy. Not that I had anything against PS3 but they didn’t have the games at first. I got one mostly for MGS4 and even then it collected dust. Slowly I started to pick up more and more exclusives (Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Uncharted, Demon’s Souls, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Ni No Kuni, etc).

Yet as 360 went along, I was losing more and more interest in the games they had. Another Halo, another Gears of War…blah. 3D Dot Game Hero might not have been a blockbuster but at least it was something different that shooter #583. Now my 360 collects dust. After having XBL for 10 yrs I finally cancelled it. I buy exclusives for the 360 now, not that there have been many to worry about anymore. I even buy multiplatform games for my PS3.

So my vote goes towards PS3. Took Sony awhile but they won me over. With games like Rain and Beyond Two Souls, they aren’t done with me yet.

Though I'm a PC gamer I voted PS3. Exclusives baby! Heavy Rain, MGS4, Uncharted, Last of Us...I mean, come on...

Heavy Rain had a shit story, which, considering the game is supposed to be completely story focused, really drags the game down.

I have my complaints about the story for Last of Us, but that game isn't nearly as dependant on story.

Best Online Experience: Xbox 360
Best At Home with Friends Experience: Wii (I feel like the Wii falls into an entirely different category of game hardware. It was never meant to compete with the Sony and Microsoft.)
Best Use of Hardware: PS3

Best Exclusives: I'll have to break this down.
Best Multiplayer Experience: Halo Series, Gears of War Series (Xbox 360)
Best Singleplayer Experience: The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 3, Uncharted Series, God of War Series (Playstation 3)

Xbox 360 had the better launch but the PS3 started catching up in the end. I believe both consoles were equal but in terms of household name, the 360 definitely won.

I enjoyed Heavy Rain for the experience. Yeah there might be some plot holes or whatever but I’m still glad I played it.

What makes 360 the "best" online? Having both for a really long time, cross game chat is the only difference I see.

Also give me Uncharted 2/3, Killzone 3 and Last of Us online any day over Halo/Gears but I guess that's preference.

I watched a Let's Play on it, and the plot really does fall apart when you think about it for any length of time. It felt like... a drama you'd go to the movies for, with the depth of a standard blockbuster film. It really felt like it was more movie than game, but it had quirks in it (the VR system the one character used in a contemporary setting, for example) that didn't seem like it would get distribution or support from Hollywood.

I think if you combined the straightforward-ness of the gameplay and the production values of Heavy Rain with the town and story of Deadly Premonition, you'd have one hell of a game. A movie experience that anyone could play without getting frustrated, with a plot that exemplifies the unique forms of expression that video games are open to.

Games on the 360 tend to have a higher population playing the games then they do on the PS3. You wouldn't notice the issue on the really popular games like CoD or Uncharted, but if you're playing a medium popularity game like War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron, you'd notice the difference.

I loved the 360 as much as the next guy but have you actually played any PS3 exclusive or do just watch them get played on YouTube?

I don't feel like dumping hundreds of dollars onto another game console when I was never that interested in the exclusives that console has had to offer. That's, oh what's the phrase? Oh yes, Fucking Stupid. I do a lot of research when I choose a console (the Xbox 360 decision I made back in 2009 involved a lot of looking over gameplay videos, but never any Let's Plays), and if I hear about a game I am curious about, I watch videos for it. Heavy Rain sounded like it was basically story based, so I watched it through from beginning to end. I actually found it pretty unintentionally funny, to be honest, but never once did I feel like it was any fun to play. The Last of Us had gameplay that was considerably more involved, but I only had limited interest in. After 2 or so videos into it, I knew it wasn't a game that appealed to me gameplay wise, and I was already bored with the story, but I continued to watch it until the end because people practically swore on their mother's graves that it was the best thing since sliced bread, and that there's supposed to be some big pay off. Eventually I finished watching the end, and I feel like the hype for the game really didn't do it any favors. I imagine the multiplayer keeps bringing a lot of people back to it, but I don't play online often enough on the games I do have.

I've watched maybe 6 games from beginning to end for Let's Plays, and those are usually the games that I don't feel like playing, but want to see what happens with it. I was burned by recent Silent Hill games, so I watched a Let's Play for Silent Hill Downpour instead of spending my money on it. It was also hard to get a good read on whether it was good at all. I also watched a playthrough of Deadly Premonition after beating the game twice myself, because I liked the guys doing the Let's Play and it's a great game to see people's reaction to it. The other two games I've watched Let's Plays for were completely forgettable.

Anyways, TLDR; If the information I'm after regarding a game isn't covered adequately from reviews, or if I hear an enourmous amount of hype and I want to see what people are shitting themselves over, watching a Let's Play can give you a pretty good idea of how the game plays, and the story as long as the guy playing it doesn't skip everything. Heavy Rain is one game where a Let's Play isn't all that different from playing it yourself.

Ps3 offered far and above better variety in games and exclusives than any other this gen. Unless your REALLY into broshooters i don't see how you could have liked 360 better. I still find multiplayer on consoles is generally a awful experience on BOTH consoles.

Valkyria Chronicles
Ratchet and clank
Little Big Planet
Demon souls
MGS4
Infamous 1/2
last Of Us
Heavy Rain
God of war

No real alternatives exist for games like these on the other consoles that aren't already multi platform and as for 360's exclusives, ps3 had games that usually matched or surpassed them. The wii has muramasa... thats about all i enjoyed for it.

I'm confused. Aren't we supposed to be answering this poll objectively from our own point of view? As in, what console to us won? I see responses just talking about numbers and all kinds of arbitrary reasons as to why one won over the other. Not to mention the fact that you mentioned that Halo is more recognized than all of Sony's exclusives combined; which I find to be extremely shallow comment. the name "Playstation" is more recognized than any brand name in existence when it comes to video games.

I have owned all the consoles and am down to my PC and PS3, and soon to be PS4. I really think despite all the fantastic games i've played on 360 and Wii that the PS3 won overall for me. The exclusives, PS+, and the backwards compatibility that plays my entire library of PS, and PS2 games as well as a great Blu-Ray player for my movies... Sony really did a great job this gen. They took a lot of risks and some dumb moves but the state of the Playstation brand is better than ever now.

For me personally I got a lot more use out of the PS3 than the 360. My main gaming setup is PC. More 360 "exclusives" ended up on PC than PS3. So from a best experience standpoint PS3 covered more stuff I couldn't play than my 360.

PC. Oh wai...

So really, having both consoles I can say that PS3 got more playtime than Xbox 360. Overall, the quality of exclusives was much stronger on the PS3 front. I purchased Xbox 360 simply to play Gears of War 2 when it came out. Then I got hooked into Halo, Forza and some console specific games that ran better on the box (e.g., Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption etc.).

However, in terms of sheer number and quality of games PS3 offered much more gameplay. I had Uncharted Series, God of War Series, Killzone series, Resistance series, MGS4, Heavy Rain, Last of US and so on that just kept giving new and interesting experiences that the box simply did not have.

Additionally, everything that was on the consoles and was on PC got played on PC so I don't consider the abundance of multi-plat titles as part of the console generation (atleast for me since I usually avoided getting a game coming on PC, even later, on the consoles).

These days, consoles only offered me 2-3 games a year for the past 2 years (2012 and 2013) so it was a tie. For example, this year for X360 it was Halo 4 and Gears of War Judgment whereas, for PS3 it was God of War Ascension and Last of US. Only game, I am keeping the consoles for is GTA V and based on which console has it better, I may end up tossing the other one.

Overrall the xbox 360 won. It came out way stronger and even with the RROD problems I can't imagine how much money they pulled from Xbox live subscriptions.

The PS3 had a very rough start and I don't think it ever got rid of the bad publicity it had during the first few years.

That being said, I think the PS3 ended up having the better exclusives. I look around the game shelves today and there is nothing worth playing on the Xbox 360 that I couldn't play on the pc or PS3. And the xbox 360 exclusives grew old. The PS3 has a ton of exclusivity that ended up being really good games.

Xbox Live has had plenty of time to get things right. The party system, achievements, voice chat, gamertags, customization, interface, market, it's all very seamless. PSN had a horrid interface and was overall a pain to use the first few years. It's gotten better but so has XBL. Also let's not forget the whole PSN hack fiasco.

I wasn't a GOW fan but Halo is much more competitive FPS than Killzone which IMO was pretty broken and felt clunky. Uncharted and Last of Us are ok additions but honestly no one bought those games to play the multiplayer.
